He seems to have a very good eye for picking up cheap buys at the sales. A mate's father has been involved in two astute purchases with Oliver at a bargain-basement price. Both horses ended up outrunning their sales price by a few stone.

He buys seriously well bred but imperfect horses.....some are not that cheap though (in the On The Bridle world of economics).

Oxx and Weld took over family operations but have lifted them a level. Ballydoyle too is now operating on an even higher level (in terms of scale at least) than in Vincent's day. But Jim Bolger started off with no background in racing and built up his operation from scratch. So it can be done, even if it's very difficult, especially from a base so removed from the main racing areas as Co Tyrone.

Bolger has had more debt written off than Donald Trump....:ninja:

Any chance of racing in Killarney tomorrow? If they got the same amount of rain as Dublin today it must be long odds on its off again tomorrow.

You are obviously trialling the new tablet version. Is it any good?

Have it on a months free trial at the moment. Will definitely sign up for the month before Cheltenham and probably another couple of times during the year.I think it's very good-at least 9/10-the only things that I think are missing are pricewise tables and Market movers but you get results and reports at the end of the day.
Having said that on a Saturday morning and the days that matter you need a paper copy in your hands.

Must get an IPad or something similar....laptop too big, phone too small. Any recomendations?

The iPad is great for Racing Post, betfair and oddschecker. The I.T. geek in work told me it can do other stuff but I have no evidence to back this up.

Interesting 7f handicap at Galway this evening.

I'm happy to be against the first two in the market (Antiquus and Arbitrageur) and would probably take them on with any of the next three in the betting. As it stands, I have backed Consonance and Kanes Pass. Consonance caught my eye doing best of those to race prominently last time up in a 7f handicap at Roscommon; a 3lb rise is harsh but he is well drawn and 9's is bigger than I expected. Kanes Pass absolutely hosed in at the festival. 10lbs higher now but performed better than his finishing position suggested since at Leopardstown (prominent in a strongly-run race), is still unexposed at 7f, and oddly is drawn 1 for the third time in a row. Jappeli still looks on a reasonable mark but his jockey is enough to put me off tonight.

Soohaad could be interesting of the others. The only worry is that Kingdomofthebride might take Jappeli or Kanes Pass on and negate the usual advantage of the 'golden highway' (prominent, up the inner) that looks open to one or both of Consonance or Kanes Pass.

Elsewhere, I talked myself out of going for the jugular with Magnolia Ridge in the opener despite a very taking debut. The Listed heat looks a dire affair.

Thoughts?

Good shout, 1st and 3rd for your selections, at 13/2 and 7/1 respectively

First race at Galway -Silverhand is a class act at his very best but he might not get the pace he needs to run at.

Dawn Approach is a fascinating test for Jim Bolger in the National Stakes on Saturday night.A runner on the first day of the season who won the Coventry at Royal Ascot you would have to wonder how much improvement he has in him.
If he is odds-on I am laying him for my max. Ballydoyle love this race.

They may love the race but they won't be winning it this year. Ballydoyle's 2yo's have not been very inspiring. CC is pretty exposed, especially with junior in the saddle the other two would have had to improve in quantum leaps which is not impossible I suppose but couldn't go against DA especially as he is the rarest of the rare a royal blue runner not to be trained by the in house personnel.

Good luck with that max lay.

Will there be money for F&G today? I can't have Brown Panther again but the 3yo and Aiken have chances. Actually looks a more interesting race from a form point of view than the Donny version.

I have laid Dawn Approach at an average of about 1.68-will possibly double the bet at the currently available 1.65-with Camelot getting chinned there will be plenty of layers laying.

Have to hand it to you, you have either very big balls or just love to be reckless either way I hope it goes in for you.
