Jason Maguire referred to BHA for using whip above permitted level at Cartmel. Faces 14 to 42-day ban as fifth offence in six months.

Case against him has been dropped. The stewards came to the conclusion because Cartmel run-in is like no other, in the sense it's round two bends and is longer than the Sussex Stakes ;o) they decided not to count two of the strikes after the last as they were delivered only to keep the horse in contention.

Fair comment and good to see the stewards using their discretion

Congratulations to AP McCoy and his wife on the birth of Archie Paeder McCoy last night, another A P McCoy for the future ?

BRIAN TOOMEY is continuing to show positive signs of recovery from the fall that left him with serious head injuries and over the weekend he was moved to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Toomey, whose condition has recently improved significantly, left Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where he had been treated since July 4 on Saturday, and has quickly settled into his new surroundings where he is soon expected to commence a rehabilitation programme.
Toomey was placed in an induced coma after undergoing surgery to his brain in the aftermath of his fall at Perth since when his girlfriend Amy Ryan, last year's champion apprentice, has virtually put her career on hold, having had only one ride in almost six weeks. Ryan took a bad fall herself from Bogart at York on July 27, but while being fit to ride she has chosen not to.
The move to Middlesborough, where Toomey was on Monday visited by hi s parents and sister, will curtail the travelling for the 24-year-old's many friends within the racing community in North Yorkshire where he is attached to the stable of Amy's father, Hambleton trainer Kevin Ryan.
Ryan reported: "Brian is doing great and is well on the way to recovery, and he hasn't lost his sense of humour that's for sure, but it was a very worrying time.
"Thank God he's going to be fine. He's talking and has full movement, but he's been through a lot. He's lost a lot of weight and it will take a while yet for him to fully recover, but he's well on the way. I don't know whether he will ever be able to ride again."
Ryan added: "He's much closer to us now so all his friends can go to see him, some of them have already been to Dundee. There's no date set yet for him leaving hospital."
Toomey's close friend and fellow jockey, Brian Hughes, commented: "Brian was moved from Dundee on Saturday and I saw him twice over the weekend and he's in good form. He's walking and talking and he's doing everything normally.

You're wondering if the job spec for this job at the Meade stable mean she has to move in with him?

Is there more to the appointment of Doyle as Khalid's jockey than meets the eye? He already had him riding for him at Beckhampton, he had Moore at Freemason Lodge and Quelly at Warren Place.
I've got a feeling we're set for some jockey merry-go-round soon. Watch this space!

Frankie Dettori's 'Magnificent 7' was trumped on Friday as Singapore champion jockey Joao Moreira rode 8 winners from 8 at Kranji

Martin Dwyer's ban reduced from eight months to 55 days again. Still wrong, BHA should not reciprocate.

James Doyle rode two Juddmonte horses at Longchamp today (Fabre and Bary trained). Prepare for a shock announcement he's on Flintshire for the Niel and Arc we thinks?

They should not have reciprocated Hughes's ban either and they have set a difficult precedent for themselves.

That was very different. He quite clearly broke what is a defined rule in the Indian rules.

Dwyer however has basically been the victim of being on a fav which didn't run to form because it was sick.

Not at all - the Indian racing authorities fail to sign up to international racing agreement and their disciplinary procedures are fundamentally flawed . The Indian rule on riding to instructions is frankly absurd and should not have been upheld in this country when the ban was so disproportionate .

Until and unless they sign up they should not be allowed to be treated as a recognised racing authority through the back door of that rule .

But surely if its one of their rules, he should have obeyed it. No different to our whip rules (as an example) - everyone who comes here has to abide by them - being foreign isnt an excuse for breaking them.
