Ill Est Francsis was given an outstanding ride Banbridge was just the better horse on the day. Take Banbridge out of the equation and he's a 10 lengths winner and would be getting hailed as the next coming

I was really impressed with Il Est Francais, James Reveley seemed to know just when to slow the pace down and when to quicken up again and some of the jumping from him on the way round was wonderful to watch. Would have been very interested had he not absolutely messed up the last flight but fair play to Banbridge and fair play to Paul Townend who pretty much timed it to perfection.

I was interested on Mark Walsh's comments post race.
" The fences come up very quickly and if you not in a rhythm you are in trouble very quickly "
How many times have we seen that in a good ground King George through the years ?
Jimmy Mangan spoke about Spillane's Tower learning a lot.
Through the years a litany of Gold Cup horses have failed to fire at Kempton, but learned a lot in the process.
There could be good value ante post for Gold Cup and indeed other races after today.

Next big event of the meeting is the Wayward Lad and it's very much a head and heart race for me. My heart want Nicky to win with Sir Gino but my head tells me Ballyburn is the most sensible bet.
The Seven Barrows crew have told us Sir Gino jumps like a buck but can he do so against a top class opponent trouble free
Paul Townsend will no doubt set a very fast pace and if he forces Sir Gino into just one bad error it could be over very Quickly. I think ,Sir Gino is the riskier bet and no way should he be odds on in his first ever chase against a top class horse like Ballyburn who I am backing this time round.

1.2secs above stabdard on ground softer than officially atated, and one bad jump - at the last obstacle tells its own story, imo.

At16/1 I'll take my chances with Ribaud.

I have slight concerns about Ballyburn at the trip. There's no doubt [in my mind] he's the best horse in the race but there's a big difference between 2m5f over hurdles at Cheltenham and 2m over fences at Kempton.

There's no way Rubaud should be 16/1. On my figures he's pretty much on a par with Sir Gino over hurdles but I can't back him to beat both the big two.

Afterthought - oh fvck it, I might as well...

If am being honest the trip is a big concern but against that he is still Fav. for the Arkle.
Another concern is wanting to get a run into him where else could he have gone? Damned if I can see an option.

I agree Ribaud should not be 16/1. Your figures are way out of sync. Ribaud has two chances a dog's chance and no chance.....if the bookies were truthful about his chances he'd b be 50/1 shot imo.
I have crossed the water and backed Gaelic Warrior BOG evens
My 12 pounds bank could be reduced to 40 pounds if Willie has a bad day.....never mind it's been good fun so far

Rubaud gave Kihavah a 14lbs beating, the same as Sir G gave him in the FF.

Rubaud then gave the 148-rated Brentford Hope an 8lbs beating.

Sir Gino started the season on 152 and is still 'only' 157.

There's really very little in it on the figures. The big difference might be in the potential but both are unknown quantities so far over fences. I tend to allow hurdlers 10lbs' improvement for going over fences and Rubaud is just as entitled to that kind of improvement as Sir G.

cross referencing for, like that can be very dangerous and very often leads in dsaster.
Ribaud is a handicapper at best but 3rd place in this race is worth having

pretty much each of two on the exchange for the Arkle now and Sir Gino all the rage for today's encounter

I'm fairly convinced Ballyburn would have been aimed at the Turners if it still existed and it'd be Majborough vs Sir G in the Arkle

When I watched Rubaud racing this term, I made a note that he'd make a lovely chaser, the way he hurdles so intelligently. It's a shame that no Ew is available but I shall a win bet @14's

What fun to watch Cobden just going for a nice jaunt around Kempton while the others are racing. Cute. I hope both jockey and horse had a very pleasant trip.

I could kick myself for betting against Nicky but you cant be right all the time.

You have to ask how good is Ballyburn? Because if he is as good as they say we just saw the next Sprinter Sacre

As for Rubaud Dessie but he never laid a glove on him and was 25 lengths down when falling at the last

Looks like yet another Arkle for Nicky

He gave up after half a dozen fences, no doubt. Obviously realised the horse wasn't going to get competitive at the gallop and looked after him for the future but it wouldn't have helped that he actually tipped up at the last.

They were out of TV shot but was he ahead of the eventual third at the time?

Maybe the horse had an issue today. I thought he'd have been competitive until the straight at least.

You got some imagination
Yes, I have.

I imagined that, in this 4 runner field, with a horse that is jumping very nicely with just a third of the race gone, that he jockey might do a little more than drop his hands with two thirds of the race remaining.

What I didn't imagine was that they would be preparing him so early for handicap chasing.

Anything else, Tan?

Yes, he was in third when coming down.
