Lexus Chase

As with all these things, time will tell but for me he would have got the trip if he wasn't so keen. I guess the reason Lynch didn't let him go at the fences was because he wouldn't be able to stop him running away with him on the other side, which is what he ended up doing anyway. I don't think they'll take on Sacre. Bit of back tracking to do if they are to go the Ryanair route, which he looks made for, but when they get over the disappointment and reconsider I think they'll try 3m again before going that way.

I'm dissapointed that Andy Lynch learnt nothing from sending on Aupcharlie at the home turn past an out and out stayer. He went and did the same thing again when pushing Flemenstar clear of FL. Why couldn't he just wait. He rode a perfect race to two out. Ruby said after the race that its a long run in on that ground. Can't believe Lynch made the same mistake in two grade 1's today. He only had to wait a hundred yards and he would have won on both.
Maybe we are being wise after the fact but the question still has to be raised. Why ride him like a non stayer then all of a sudden decide to go on when he did and bring his stamina or lack of into play.

It certainly looked like he could have sat there motionless until after the last took it up and not given the others a chance to get back at him.

However as a professional jockey he'd ask the question what would you be saying if he had waited and lost the race because he clouted the last?

Ideally he could have waited until approaching the last grabbed a couple of lengths out of the field and allowed for a possible error but saying that is really being wiser than wise after the fact.

I think he could have won if he waited but I didn't think he would stop when he cruised to the front when he did and neither did Andrew Lynch or anyone else until after the last.

As much as I agree with you I don't think we can blame the jockey to any great extent as the main part of the plan was hatched before the race not during......it will be interesting to see how he copes with 3 miles next time and how they decide to ride him.

I think the idea of holding on to him longer is flawed in any case. The front two were up and down on the spot for the last 150 yards. Had he been held onto he would be going up on down on the spot with SDC and TB on his tail.

I've watched the race back a few times, and I reckon Flemenstar starts to show signs of coming to the end of his stamina long before the last. He is shaken-up as they turn into the straight, but doesn't really put any extra daylight between himself and the others as he is asked to go and win the race; or at least a lot less than might have been expected, given the way he was travelling. Send him to the Irish Hennessy, and I can see something similar happening again.

It was his class - and his jumping - rather than his stamina, which allowed him to finish so close at the end, in my view, and he will likely always be vulnerable at this trip, and having slept on it, I reckon the likelihood of him seeing out 3m2f at Cheltenham, is next to zilch.

I would dearly love to see him up against the Aeroplane in a soft-grouns Champion Chase though.

Not sure why we are still debating. He didnt get the trip. He wont get the Gold Cup trip. Moving on... the trainers son has slagged off the Ryanair, so hopefully they will take on the Monster.

Casey said: "Andrew (Lynch) said he pulled too hard. Maybe it would have been better if he had gone off in front.

"I don't think it was too far for him today. He boiled over a little bit. We had a job putting a saddle on him and he wasn't settled.
really don't think the cheltenham festival and all that comes with it would suit this beast

Based on what I saw at Punchy he will need to find a stone to beat Sprinter Sacre and as I said to Granger earlier talk is cheap.

While reactions to this might change thing at the moment most bookies aren't falling over themselves to be offering huge prices about a would be non runner in the Ryanair.

The Ryanair is worth about 150k V 180K for the QMCC but finishing 2nd in the latter is worth under 70K.

If they think he has the remotest chance of beating Sprinter Sacre then you'd have to think he's a racing certainty win the Ryanair as it's full of horses who Sprinter scared away. There more or less gambling 80k to win 30k...........geez they're bright!

They might wake up and smell the roses before Cheltenham and common sense will prevail

I see they are offering 7/2..........any takers should check themselves into the nearest local mental institution

Is it? He won the KG, thereby proving his stamina for 3m at the very least. Flemenstar looks like he's not a stayer at 3m in grade 1 conditions.

3m on a flat track thats not a bog..could be his bag...could

basically..

something special at 2 - 2.5m
something possibly above average at 3m flat track
something below average at 3m stiff track+

i'd rather see something special..so would love the SS v F situation..this is what we want isn't it?;)

obviously the ryanair is very appealing too..looks like potentially the best ryanair ever..at this stage of course;)..but if that cuts up could just be a 1/2 shot against little oppo

Not sure I see the logic that the horse would get 3m if allowed to run freer. He reminds me of kicking king. People had him down as a non stayer too. If they can get him to relax and allow him to take his time he will get most trips.

Kicking King was way more relaxed than this fella. He never ran as free as Flemenstar does.

Kicking King was a hell of a horse as well and a real favourite of mine, it was a real shame we never saw him in the King George against Kauto in 2006. Not sure he would have beaten him but injury stopped us ever finding out.

He looks a 2 miler at the moment. He might get 3m in time but he won't get the Gold Cup trip this year.

Agreed, does Mr Casey have the ability to get this fella to settle so he can show his class ?

Agree again. Geraghty rode him differently in the GC and let him relax.

Not sure. Lynch is a fantastic chase jock though and Flemenstar should settle over time but I'm just not sure he'll ever get the Gold Cup trip.

The horse was silky smooth that day. Cracking jumper he was.

It isn't noticeable when at the course, certainly nothing like the finish at Navan for example.

you got me thinking when you said it..i always think of leopardstown as uphill from just before they turn in..when they show them from the back before they turn in you can see its a climb to the finish on TV..from the front its hard to see..then again Cheltenham from the high above spot we see from at the finish doesn't look that much of a climb..its deceptive

its probably not a great stamina test but would think a flat track would suit F at that trip more than yesterday
