Novice Chasers 2019/20

Got a me out of a big hole today.
That hole must have looked mighty big half way round when Townend nearly came off!!! He did immensely well to stay aboard.... Can't really see Faugheen featuring in any big races as season progress. His class got him home today and he had 20+ lbs in hand on the rest of the field, which won't be the case in a better race.

I turned it off at that point in a sulk, incredible sit.

No price for the RSA? Am I being thick?
General 14/1 shot for the JLT and there's 25/1 available for the RSA with PP, Hills & Bet 365. Nostalgia aside, he has No chance imho. 12 yo novice chase winners at the festival just don't happen. And if we're all being honest, his jumping was sketchy at best today!

He did well to stay in the race twice! He jumped very, very economically. First time excuses but his class let him get away with it. Would have to improve/gain more confidence to be in the mix at the Festivals/more prestigious races, but could do nothing more than win.

This and this. 10's with Laddys & Coral for JLT :blink:Must have been on the juice those compilers. Not a chance

I'm not getting carried away. He will be 12

But I love him and his bulldoze nature

The ditch aside, his jumping was good

I remember his early bumper days arguing on here with some former, on sabbatical and current posters that Willie was keeping his best gold cup hope hurdling rather than his French needs

Faugheen will be box office wherever he rolls up next

Battleoverdoyen didn't look wonderful today but still accounted for a very smart chaser today

Needs a trip

In no way is he bombproof but a nice horse
Battleoverdoyen nowhere near as visually impressive today as FTO, and he had to work hard for it. But with all the fences ommitted, today's test wasn't ideal. That would have done him no harm at all and nice to see he relishes a battle.

All in all I'm still very keen on him for all the top 3 mile novice chases in Ireland this season. Cheltenham is a tad more concerning considering how poorly he performed at the festival earlier this year. By all accounts he didn't travel over well and it was more so the occasion that got to him. That has to be a slight concern for any RSA antepost bets.

Faugheen returned home stiff at the weekend

Mullins said on Sunday: "Faugheen is a bit stiff this morning.I think he's fine, but any horse that hits a fence hard is going to be a bit sore. I expect him to be all right in a couple of days."

Arkle division looking weak again for me. Fakir Doudaries will be my nap of the meeting if he gets there. My biggest AP bet as well so far.

Reading they could go JLT with him, but that would be silly. Think the JLT will be the hottest novice race again going forward. This years form looks unbelievable.

A few years back, he'd have gotten a big allowance

Star De Mohaison probably put an end to that practice

Wholestone may attempt to enhance his impressive Cheltenham record by taking a step up in class in the Dipper Novices Chase on New Year's Day.

The Grade Two contest has been earmarked as a potential target by trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies, after the eight-year-old got his career back on track over fences on Saturday with a fifth victory at the Gloucestershire course.
An outing in the Dipper would mean a drop back to an extended two and a half miles for the triple Grade Two-winning hurdler, but Twiston-Davies believes he has enough pace to cope.
He said: "Another novice chase will be difficult to find with him, because he will have two penalties now, although he will probably have another entry at the next Cheltenham (in December).
"There is always Kempton (at Christmas) - but we don’t think he is as good right- handed, and we would prefer to stay left.
"There is absolutely no problem with two and a half, because he has plenty of speed. He was tanking through the race last time, so he could come back for that (Dipper). That could be the one for him."

Twiston-Davies is considering a short break for Al Dancer before a possible shot at the Grade Two Ladbrokes Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase at Kempton on December 27th.

Last season's Betfair Hurdle hero lost his unbeaten record over fences when he had to settle for second best at the same level in the Arkle Trial at Cheltenham on Sunday.
The Cotswolds trainer said: "He was probably giving 10lb to what was a very good horse. He beat the one they all said was going to beat him (Getaway Trump).
"I think he ran a very good race again. She (winner Put The Kettle On) could be very good — and let’s hope that's what it is.
"That (Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown) will probably be too soon. He has had two races now, so he probably wouldn’t go there. We have Kempton (Wayward Lad) — and we could go there."

A step up in trip appears to be on the agenda for Good Boy Bobby, after he went one better than on his Carlisle debut over fences with victory at Wetherby on Saturday.

Twiston-Davies said: "He is very good and he can move up a gear now — hopefully to two and a half. He did well at Wetherby without being extravagant.
"When you make all your own running it is quite hard work to look too flashy. We are not rushing to push things yet with him."

I thought Thomas Darby ran well enough against a race fit rival at Warwick. Ran on well to the line, jumped fine.

Early call & lots could change but the JLT could be some race come March.
Samcro, Reserve Tank, Black Op, Laurina, Angels Breath all with big reputations but there to be shot at hopefully by the rising star from Brian Ellison's yard....

Oh yesssssssssss

Tomorrow not Sunday sorry (been a long week)

Laurina 2/5
Minella Indo 2/1

Got to be Minella Indo at them prices surely. Don’t really get involved too heavily early season in novice races, especially those first time out, but that’s a lovely price.
