Novice Chasers 2020 / 2021

Quite an eye catching run from The Mighty Don there.

He's a horse who's taken in the last three festivals, including an honourable 8th in a stayers hurdle and has been sent to the track numerous time, winning a Pertemps qualifier on the old course a couple of years back.

The combination of spring ground, even with the inevitable soft somewhere in the description and a trip now just shy of 4 miles in the NH chase could be right up his street and there are much worse 40/1 pokes out there.

Edit : Hills are boosting to 75.53/1 so I've had a sneaky tenner e/w at that price

Good to see Fusil Raffles back in the winner’s enclosure. He just doesn’t seem to jump well out of soft ground as it wa a bit sticky again today at some and I thought it was the end of him with a bad blunder 4 or 5 out

Skeletons got some decent novices this year. Shan Blue may well place in a RSA, but the Monk looks solid to me.

I’d have to see him again, purely because of his hurdles form. But even with the Shan Blue talk and Almankind today, I think Protektorat could be Skeltons best novice.

I just did my first anti post bet for the festival on Shan Blue in the RSA, as I've had a good day overall. I managed to get 60 quid each way on with bet 365 at 25's each way, albeit after being referred to a trader. Fingers crossed now.

How you’ve had a good day in this bloodbath I don’t know. Every credit

I had a good each way single on Chatham Street Lad mate. I feel for you though. I nearly selected Rockys Treasure as I had him down as a good horse about two seasons ago. Anyways. Good luck in the future pal.

Well done. I live a few miles away from where he trains. What a master man he is. Just superb.

Elixir de Nutz and Ofalltheginjoints not helping dispel the notion that there is a bug or something in Tizzard's today.

Well good to see the Skelton stable is in form.

We'll see if Shan Blue runs next week.

Cheers.

Monkfish could be a good thing in the rsa but when I thought about it i remember that saying' never been afraid of one horse'.

More often than not this holds true.

I just hope Shan Blue impresses this Saturday and puts himself in the RSA frame.

It's the best I can hope for.

Anti-post fancies for Cheltenham Festival aren't exactly jumping out at me at present, although this festival i am going to analyse the handicaps later than the past few seasons.

I've been looking too early weeks in advance and ending up on donkeys.

I'll be doing it the old fashioned way this season. Buy a Racing Post the morning of each day and study hard on the day.

On what we've seen so far, Shan Blue and Last Destination look like the best of the UK horses. Given the UK trainers have such a good record in the RSA I'd say it should pay to have one or both onside each way.

The Irish seem to have the whip hand atm, but you’ve picked a coupl of UK ones that are down the Timeform ratings list -

NOVICE CHASERS

154P ENVOI ALLEN
153p GALVIN
153p PENCILFULLOFLEAD
151p ASTERION FORLONGE
151 COURT MAID
150p ALLMANKIND
149p ANDY DUFRESNE
149p PROTEKTORAT
148P SHISHKIN
148p EASYWORK
148p ENERGUMENE
148p FELIX DESJY
148p GUMBALL
148p MONKFISH
148p SHAN BLUE
148 FUSIL RAFFLES
147p EARLY DOORS
146P UNEXCEPTED
146p BLACKBOW
146p HITMAN
146p NEXT DESTINATION
146p SEVARANO

It’s difficult to see past Envoi Allen, but I’ve a bit of hope for Shishkin coming through.

Not when you take out the horses that will go to the Arkle and Marsh Barjon.

Monkfish 148p
Shan Blue 148p
Next Destination 146p

The market order for the RSA is about right, but the disparity in prices isn't, and unless you have Monkfish at antepost prices, the value looks to be with the two UK horses at the moment, given Pencilflloflead is heavily ground dependent and Court Maid is reportedly heading to the NH Chase.

The last few RSA's the principals have all hit the frame at the previous Festival in either the Ballymore, the AB or a top handicap hurdle. Shan Blue I guess has improved for fencing but he was well beat in the Ballymore. This would put me off really.
