Novice Chasers 2020 / 2021

There are still opportunities every year. You just have to be prepared commit before they’ve run - something that’s especially true of novice chasers.

At least you stood a chance of getting a decent ante-post price 10 years ago

The prices that they offer, (excluding betfair and the exchanges), are clearly a subjective issue though, Viking.

Anti post markets/prices will always court controversy for one reason or another.

Some will claim that you can't get a fair price while others will think the opposite.

I've been the first to critisise bookmakers over the years, whether it was Lord Donohue giving advice to government while on consultancy fees from bookmakers, to anti post prices or whatever else.

However, I'm happy to acknowledge good offers or bookmaker developments when they arise. I think the cash out option on anti post bets is a positive initiative.

always irks me every year when a horse, particularly a novice chaser, comes out and wins well in a poor race and people moan the odds are clipped when they've "beat nothing"

they totally miss the point

To my eye anything in front of AF is a hinderance Euro. He'd **** up in an Ascot Gold Cup though!

I wasn't quite expecting that when I said this!

It turned into a nothing race. Envoi Allen had a spin, did it efficiently, jumped well, quickened up and finished well when asked. He's still got four legs, and will win the Marsh.

Having taken the plunge at short odd my head was full of "What if" Then what happened happened ..what a let down. Sure your happy when you win but like many I really wanted answers and today ended up a waste of space

Was a shame as it would have been good to see how it would have panned out. Jumping name of the game though.

That said, the winner rocks up and does his job. Next!

The cash out offer from my bookie about Shan Blue in the RSA last week was like landing a touch, Lee.

In other news, I'm pleased trainer Seamus Neville entered Notice To Close in the 3M6F chase. The horse came to my attention after looking at Irish races. He's one of the most promising or under the radar novice chasers in Ireland.

He's on a sharp upward curve although the furthest of his wins was 2M5F while this entry is 3M6F.

However, at least his entry shows some intent or willingness from his trainer in wanting to run at the festival per se. I think it's more likely he runs in a handicap chase.

I'm hoping the bookies will be NRNB by the time of handicap entries, (which should be published on February 18th).

However, should the horse happen to run in Ireland over 3M+ in the next month, I'll have a dabble at a huge price for the National Hunt Chase over the 3M6F if the terms are NRNB.

We might see this horse out again at Naas on Sunday. He's entered in 2 chases, one over 2M4F and another more competitive novice chase over 3M1F, (the latter a grade 3 novice chase).

As impressive as Shiskin's jumping looked, there didn't seem to be a lot left if he'd needed it. I thought Nico was looking round thus, not because he wanted to coast home....
On a line through the runner up, the Skelton's have to be excited by the bare form....

Check the time Paul. Allmankind has zero chance. He'll just give Shishkin a toe to the final bend and Shishkin will ease past like a rolls royce.

He reminds me of a younger Altior in that there’s a moment 4f out where you wonder if he’s having to be coaxed but then the way he simply breezes past good horses is breathtaking.

He’s not unbeatable in the Arkle but I wouldn’t want to be a layer.
