Road to the 2013 Gold Cup

Without a shadow of a doubt Flemenstar is the classiest chaser to come out of Ireland for years. Travels like a dream jumps beautifully but if the bookies thought he'd stay the Gold Cup trip he'd be nearer 2/1 than 12/1. I think he could be another Pendil but find the Gold Cup trip just beyond him but you wouldn't want to be opposing him in a 3mile chase on an ordinary track.

There is a lot of stamina in Flemenstar's female line. His granddam is a half sister to the dam of Carvill's Hill and to the dam of Samlee, third in Earth Summit's Grand National. His sire is an influence for stamina also.
But you never know until they come up that hill.

Charlie Hall - PP

Silviniaco Conti 7/2
Weird Al 4/1
Midnight Chase 11/2
First Lieutenant 6/1
Time For Rupert 6/1
Planet Of Sound 13/2
Master Of The Hall 8/1
Diamond Harry 9/1
Cappa Bleu 16/1
Roberto Goldback 16/1
Cannington Brook 20/1
Mr Moonshine 20/1
Wayward Prince 20/1
Garleton 25/1

Tempted by the 10/1 Diamond Harry. Form figures first time out read 1/1/1/1/1/4. The
4th being last year trying to match pace with Kauto.

If they have him back to his best shouldn't be that price and Williams horses flying as well.

As someone who has spanked a fair bit of cash following Diamond Harry... I have to say that I think it's a big if :)

Flemenstar entered in the Fortia at the weekend

Casey said: "He came back to us a while ago and he looks super. He has strengthened up a lot and the plan is to start him off at Navan. He'll head to the Curragh (on Tuesday) for a bit of work up the Old Vic (Gallop) and that should leave him right for Navan."

The trainer added: "We'll try and get a racecourse school into him somewhere beforehand. After that, I'd say that he'll go for something like the (John) Durkan Chase at Punchestown."

If that horse can see out the GC trip he will be hard to beat. It would be nice to see him face off with Sprinter Sacre though...

Betfair Chase odds:

6-4 Long Run

10-1 The Giant Bolster
12-1 Tidal Bay,
12-1 Al Ferof
12-1 Weird Al
14-1 Midnight Chase

6/4 Long Run is atrocious but SC is 26 on Betfair. Can't understand why he wouldn't run as it's the ideal race for him.

Been looking at the prices for this of late, and think Imperial Commander is worth chancing at current odds. The has always been at his best fresh and probably left handed, and apart from Long Run, is the only genuine proven 170+ chaser.

Twister has shown on a number of occasions he can get them back off a long absence, so in a race lacking depth, he looks overpriced.

Agree, David Johnson...unusual to have 2 Gold Cup winners facing each other at Haydock Park at any time...let alone first race of the season !

A Dutching win bet may be in order...if the prices are right !

Anyone know who the 4yo unraced NTD bumper horse who worked with Imperial Commander was? Was a racecourse gallop in the last couple of weeks?
