Road to the Champion Chase 2011

Thought about 2/5 would be the price - no account with VC so had tosettle for 8/11!! Think it's a seriously good bet. Have had three odds on reverses lately so if I get MM beaten then that's me finished with odds on skinny ones.

At least I have someone to blame now. Be very interesting to see how Crack Away Jack goes think he could be a Ryanair horse. Also is there any reason why Somersby is running in this quite clear he needs further than this trip.

i'll bet many trainers would like to be called out of form after winning with 3 of their last 6 runners:)

i'm not betting because i want to enjoy watching him win without worrying falls

think AP would have won more easily had he kicked on earlier in the straight

Erm - rubbish . Somersby has put in the performance of his life but MM well below form as the Nicholls animals have been all week .

Interestingly, AP said he went too soon !!!

Didn't look the same horse again was being niggled half way round and started jumping to his left a couple of times. Is it Nicholls horses? I have a feeling MM may have injured himself there at about the 4 or 5 fence where he went for a massive leap and over extended.

That 3/1 is the each way steal of the century if you can get on. Like I said I'm sure MM may have injured himself there.

I did Somersby e/w, and he may have won had he not made a (blunder) about a mile from home.
Having seen it again he seemed to lose 2 lengths at the fence.

Pleased he's shown he's not a total mincer.

aye he is well out of form isn't he?

For his yard yes the horses have been running below form .

That may not be because the horses are ill - the way they prepare their horses seems to mean they tend not to run quite so well in Jan for the reasons PN explained on RUK the other day .

Somersby has almost certainly run the race of his life though when you see how far clear they are of the rest .

Ruling MM out of the CC on that basis strikes me as precipitate and probably foolhardy .

I suspect Somersby is a bit better right handed - his best efforts have been at Sandown and now here .

Thats interesting Kauto. You could be right. Hes jumped far far better than taht before ad no one can say that was the MM at his fluent best or state "thats as good as he is"

It might simply be that hes an in and out horse full stop

But Somersby has always had a big performance in him IMO

What has big zeb done this season to get him close to that form-wise?

I saw the betting for the QM - sizing Europe 11s is the funniest joke of 2011

Beat a consistent 166 rated horse twice by 1.5 lengths. MM beat a 162 rated horse by a short head. Next question.....

I hope they dont decide to stick to the CC route now with Somersby after that he is crying out for a trip the Ryanair will be perfect distance and he seems to perform well at Cheltenham

i'm not that convinced he is out of form - MM ran in fits and starts and AP was definately trying to nurse him home..looking to see if he had to ask for more..maybe he has injured himself as has been suggested

Golden Silver not a 166 horse for me. Back to the argument about horses getting too high a rating. Not too many years back a horse rated 166 would be in the top 3 in the betting for the QM CC - Golden Silver nit quite at this level.

And MM beat a 163 horse by eight lengths last time. Perhaps its worth taking the blinkers off???

Somersby ran no race in the Arkle before staying on. Based on KS this season, we can see Sizing is a high 150s animal..
