Ryanair Chase 2016

They are chancing their arm running VVM at the festival.

Think about it logically if she were good enough she would be in the mares race because we know if Annie went world Hurdle she would make them all go and perhaps even win

So WMP and owner decided chick her into the world hurdle because starnger theings have happened and you never know.

There's one target between two horse and that's the Mares and Annie is their number 1 contender.

VVM's chase form is better than her hurdles form. She was near-enough fave for the RSA and 4-Milers at various points this time last year.

With the Ryanair being a G1, she would presumably cop for a 7lb allowance, and whilst that might not make enough of a difference for her to win, I could see her running into a place (in the absence of the 'Gold Cup' horses).

Looking at the way the race is shaping up it must be hers for the taking. I'd be surprised if they don't run in it to be honest.

VVM may be a classic example of rating meaning very little but c'mon she's up to 20lbs below what some horses have won the race off.

They might run her because she'd get murdered in the World Hurdle and while Annie looks a certainty for the Mares and they won't want to run her in the WH and VVM in the mares because then they run the risk of losing both.

Really there's no race for VVM at least not one she can win if WPM sticks to his guns and Annie stays in the mares.

She is rated 155 over fences, and gets a 7lb allowance.

Given the likely runners, she will have nothing like as much as 20lbs to find - it's a handful at most.

155 though, that's pure guesswork.

just on paper is about 155..Miss dinamic is a solid mid 130's hoss...she gave her 9lb and 8 length beating "easily" ..also Burn + turn is solid mid 130's hoss..gave her 5 and 13 beating..easily

depends what the "easily" is really..and it depends on how she reacts to running alongside 160 hosses for a change.

if she is at full stretch an early 160's hoss then it will need a late 160's hoss to beat her with the allowance

True.......though she did cuff Burn & Turn over fences last season, and that one is a solid mid/high 130's handicapper, so it's not entirely without some substance.

It's also worth bearing mind that VVM has run in a chase this season (Mares event - won easy). The runs over hurdles might have more to do with Annie Power's setback, than any concerns about VVMs ability over fences - it might just be they see these races as easy pickings which will allow them to go to the Festival with a relatively fresh horse (insofar as a potential run in the Ryanair, is concerned).

That's exactly the view I take Grassy. If so it'll take a 160's horse to beat her that's still capable of running at or above its mark. Looking at the entires they're hard to find. That also doesn't take into account that she's still unexposed and possibly still improving.

As an aside I've had a small bet on Felix Yonger at 33/1. It seems the considerations are the Champion Chase or miss the Festival and send him to Japan. But looking at the potential line up they must be seriously tempted here given the lack of bullets Mullins is likely to have to fire at a very winnable race. It would be interesting to know which of VVM and FY they think is the better.

From Ruby's blog yestrerday

"Felix Yonger put up a good performance to win the Tied Cottage at Punchestown. He showed more pace than he has done before. He travelled very well and showed a really good turn of foot.

He idled a bit after the last which he’s done in the past so he doesn’t want to be in front too long. I was surprised how quickly he picked up Flemenstar which left me in front earlier than was ideal.
He won over two and a half miles at Navan last March but is a Grade One winner at Punchestown over two miles so I imagine he’ll go for the Queen Mother at the Festival."

I'd be inclined to think that VVM will go for this and, if she does, the NRNB markets indicate that she'll start favourite. It doesn't seem likely that Annie Power will get a run before March and will therefore go to the Mares Hurdle. Ruby has already said that he doubts VVM's ability to win a World Hurdle so the Ryanair is the logical move. At 9/1 compared to 4/1 NRNB I think it's a chance worth taking for a small punt.

Isn't Vibrato Valtat going for the Ryanair - he could have scope for improvement over the longer trip . Whilst there is some suggestion that Al Ferof 's wind op means he is a better horse this year and he ran a good third in the KG . His festival record over fences is not encouraging .

I cannot imagine that Gigginstown won't divert Road to Riches to this race if Don Poli and Don Cossack are fit and well in March .

Al Ferof is all about the rest period. He's a blinding horse first time out its just about if he has enough time between KG and this.

I had Djakadam added to this market yesterday, and have had a few quid matched at 200.

Stranger things have happened.

I took to Taquin de Seuil the first time I saw him..Definitely a cliff horse for me. Hoping that he was back from whatever ailed him I had a medium bet for the BAM Plate, luckily NRNB..The support for the stable's other runner had tempered my irrational instinct. Really tempted to go for it but have not been following Ryanair contenders. Thoughts?

The only thing stopping me from going in heavy on both the Gigginstown entries is the fear that they'll both run. I'm pretty convinced it will be Valseur Lido for this and Meade will get his way with RTR but whoever runs here will win. The race is just an absolute mess.
