The 2015 2-y-o thread.

There's one more 2-y-o race today at Redcar 2.20 - hardly worth to mention I guess.

Five runners in total for the 7f selling stakes. The 3 runners with experoence had 8 races between them and none of these generated encouraging form. That's why the 2 newcomers show prominently in the market. Favorite at the off at just above evens could be Colombe Bleu, a Manduro filly from the Sir Mark Prescott yard. I'm more inclined to lean towards 3-1 chance Little Pippin, a Sir Percy filly from the Coyle yard who managed to win a decent two 2-y-o race with New Road Side who was not up to the task at 66/1 in the Group2 Queen Mary Stakes on Tuesday when beaten 14 lengths behind Acapulco

A moderate race though altogether and no FSS runners enagaged.

Coyle also 2/3 in 2yo sellers at the track , think I remember is Prescott 0-39 or something in 2yo non h/caps at redcar , backed little pippin last night at 4s as didn't think prescotts should be so short and trying to get it beat , sitting at 9/2 WH the now

Wasn't asking for one lol 2yo race at ascot looks tough , inclined to go with the Kevin Ryan horse Ashadihan @ 12s , won on debut over 6f at haydock but done it well enough , actually backed it that day so hoping it comes good , had a small win bet

Redcar 2.20

Colombe Bleu the 6/5 favourite had no problem winning this by seven lengths but I think it was a pretty poor race.

Ascot 2.30

Illuminate, another winner for first season sire Zoffany, gave Richard Hughes his first winner of the meeting taking the lead inside the final furlong and soon in command. It would be interesting to know the opinion of Kevin Ryan, trainer of the second Ashadihan, on the ride that Spencer gave his filly - steadied start, switched right, switched left, beaten 1.5 lengths. The unconsidered, by me at least, French filly Elegant Supermodel finished third after having every chance a furlong out.

Limerick 6.10

Spinamiss, the 8/11 favourite and daughter of FSS Lilbourne Lad, just prevailed in a four-horse photo. I thought Leigh Roche gave Orangey Red a poor ride, the moral winner in my opinion.

Newmarket 7.05

Elronaq, making all, was a very impressive winner. There were probably plenty of future winners behind but they were quite a long way behind.

Today

Dontcha love Saturdays such a feast of racing!

Ayr 1.50

FSS Frozen Power has two in this: Rupert Boy, last of nine in the Brocklesby on his only run and Ressurreto, who has shown little in two runs at Hamilton but is a half-sister to Maid In Rio -RPR 106- a progressive middle-distance handicapper and the winner of seven races.

Redcar 2.05

Three FSS with runners: Dream Ahead (Donjuan Triumphant making his debut is a half-brother to Caledonian Spring -RPR 106- winner of a Listed race at Haydock), Dick Turpin (Receding Waves third on debut at Bath when 2/1 favourite) and Zoffany (Saxon Gold making her debut). Blue Humor second when favourite at Newcastle last time out is a half-brother to Shumoos -RPR 106- winner of a Group 3 at Kempton as a 2-y-o. Silver Sands who is making his debut is a half-brother to Dutch Rose -RPR 105- second in a listed event at Pontefract and the winner of seven races.

Newmarket 2.10

Four FSS runners: Dick Turpin (Daring Knight, making his debut), Canford Cliffs (Jassur who is making his debut is a half-brother to Juniper Pass -RPR 114- a winner of Graded races in the USA), Cape Blanco (Parafin Young, has shown little in two runs) and Poet's Voice (Queensbury Odyssey who is making his debut. Street Duel, by Street Cry out of Fifth Avenue Doll who is the dam of American Cosmos -RPR 121- winner of the St. Leger in 2010. Others worth mentioning from a breeding angle are: Cartago, Race Day and Sterling Work.

Ascot 2.30

Ballydoyle was rather green on debut and was beaten three lengths into fourth, she will undoubtedly be sharper today. Ballydoyle is a full-sister to Misty For Me (winner of the Group 1 Pretty Polly) and Twirl (second to The Fugue in the 2012 Musidora). The American filly, Love The Kitten, is a full-sister to two good American horses. Sixth Sense has had four runs and is rather exposed but he is a half-brother to Er Nova, a Japanese Group 1 horse.

Down Royal 2.35

Independence Day, fourth to Air Force Blue on debut at the Curragh, is a full-brother to Requite -RPR 109- the winner of the 2011 Flying Childers at Doncaster. Arjeed, last of eleven on debut when he ran much too freely, is a half-sister to Nidhaal who was second in a Group 3 at Newbury. Zebgrey, making her debut, is a half-sister to Howya Now Kid -RPR 102- winner of the Listed Surrey Stakes at Epsom in 2007.

Lingfield 6.00

FSS Roderic O'Connor is represented by Sharaakah who is making her debut and is a half-sister to Quissisana -RPR 97- who ran second in an Italian Listed race. Poldark, the favourite, has been disappointing in my opinion. Turn Tide is a full-brother to Eva Kant -RPR 94- placed in Listed company in Italy.

Haydock 6.15

Love On The Rocks was a satisfactory fourth on debut at Nottingham, he is a full-brother to Double Up -RPR 104- who is developing into a smart sprinter. Mr> lupton had no chance on his last run having being taken out when one of his rivals took a sharp left across his bows.

In the first at Newmarket Hornsby wins on his second run for Charlie Appleby.......have you noticed how much better this system works when I don't flag up the qualifiers!!

Yesterday

Ayr 1.50

Won by the favourite Barbarous Relic but we saw a promising debut by the runner-up Kraftwork, green in the preliminaries he travelled well in the race and ran on close home to go down by a half-length.

Redcar 2.05

Receding Waves was a winner for first season sire Dick Turpin. Donjon Triumphant, by FSS Dream Ahead, made a promising debut only going down a head.

Newmarket 2.10

Hornsby was the winner having his second run for Charlie Appleby. Plenty of promising debuts in behind, in particular Street Duel who didn't have the clearest of runs inside the final furlong.

Ascot 2.30

Suits You ruined the day for me by holding off Ballydoyle.

Down Royal 2.35

Some compensation when Independence Day fulfilled expectations to win by five lengths.

Lingfield 6.00

Turn Tide justified strong support on debut to go clear of Poldark inside the final furlong.

Haydock 6.15

Mr. Lupton won due compensation for connections after his unfortunate experience last time. Love On The Rocks was rather disappointing.

Today

Pontefract 2.10

Two FSS represented: Canford Cliffs (Canford Kilbey made an adequate debut finishing midfield behind Lathom at Beverley, she is a half-sister to Whimsical -RPR 98- winner of a decent Newbury 7f. handicap) and Poet's Voice (Midnight Malibu who was fourth in an ordinary Carlisle maiden last time).

Gowran Park 2.15

Hard to see past Air Vice Marshall here. In a year when some of the O'Brien 2-y-os haven't been at their best on debut the third on debut behind Rockaway Valley at the Curragh looks fair enough form; he is a half-brother to a graded winner, Contested, and full-brother to another graded animal.

Pontefract 2.10

A convincing winning debut for Chiringuita, perhaps Canford Kilbey and Midnight Malibu are nursery projects.

Gowran Park 2.15

Air Vice Marshall any easy winner as he should have been at odds of 1/4.

Today

Wolverhampton 3.55

Rouleau, a pleasing fourth at Nottingham on debut is having his second run for Charlie Appleby, he is a half-brother to Amadeus Wolf - RPR 120 - a very good 2-y-o and the winner of the Group 1 Middle Park of 2005. Cogent hasn't shown a lot in his two runs but is a half-brother to several useful performers including Crowley's law who was second in this years Group 3 Princess Elizabeth at Epsom. Apasiona, making her debut, is half-sister to Hold Your Colour, winner of a Listed event at Ripon.

Wetherby 6.10

First season sire Frozen Power has two runners: Frozen Venture who is making his debut and Siberian Power who was always struggling on debut at Thirsk. King's Pavilion, related to seven winners, has twice been placed in decent company. Rico showed lots of promise on her Beverley debut.

Windsor 6.30

Frozen Power has another runner in this, Kristoff, who is having his first run is a half-brother to Mac's Power -RPR 107- the winner of five handicaps over 6-8f. Willsy, a staying on fourth on this course last time, is a half-brother to Effie B -RPR 96- a successful sprint handicapper. Clever Bob, a newcomer, is of some interest being a half-brother to three winners.

Comfortable winner at very skinny odds - I guess I'll have to follow this 2nd outing for C.A. a bit more closely ...

Not so much movement regarding FSS wins in recent days mainly due to lesser number of 2-y-o races (3 yesterday, 3 today). FSS market still not re-opened.

In the biography of Noel Murless the story is told of one March morning when the great trainer watched Gordon Richards ride a number of 2yos in packs of about 3. They put the whole lot through their paces then retired to the kitchen. Seeing the look on Richard’s face Murless suggested a glass of Champagne. As they drank it Richards and Murless agreed they were a poor lot and it was going to be a bad year. Murless suggested they open another bottle and Richards started to open up about some of the individual 2yos. After another bottle they parted agreeing that they had a fine set of youngsters.

Having watched the Bell gallops if Academy House doesn’t win today he may need a few bottles of Champagne to get over the poor lot he has, because at the moment this colt seems way ahead of the rest of his 2yos.

Skinny odds and Spencer is in the saddle though.

And this race will give us another chance to test Col's 2nd time out theory for the C.Appleby's with Song Of Shadows who looks the main danger - if so at all - for Academy House.

Yesterday

Wolverhampton 3.55

Rouleau duly won, but at the odds of 1/4!!!!!

Wetherby 6.10

King's Pavilion won with the minimum of fuss, making all and keeping on well; back in fifth, the newcomer Frozen Venture had no luck in running and will improve for the run.

Windsor 6.30

A winning debut for Flying Empress, Clever Bob (second) and Stormy Antarctic (third) showed lots of promise and will surely win races.

Today

Beverley 2.15

First season sire Canford Cliffs represented by Poplar Close who, when friendless in the market at 50/1, showed promise when sixth on debut at Doncaster. The favourite is Star Focus, placed in her two runs in moderate events is a half-sister to Magritte -RPR 108- a Group winning filly in Italy. Secret Banta, who hasn't shown a lot in her two outings, is a half-sister to useful handicapper Seeking Magic and could be a work in progress for a nursery or three.

Brighton 2.30

Three FSS with runners: Poet's Voice (With Pleasure, a newcomer who is a half-sister to a number of useful animals including With Interest -RPR 113-winner of a Listed race at Newmarket in 2008), Frozen Power (Powerful Dream who has run moderately in two ordinary maidens but is a half-sister to Corporal Maddox -RPR 105- winner of the 2009 Listed Woodcote Stakes at Epsom) and Dick Turpin (Lady Katherine, well beaten in her two races).

Leicester 6.20

Academy House, the favourite, is a Kodiac colt who was third on debut in a decent Newmarket maiden. Song Of Shadows, unsighted at Goodwood on debut is therefore having his second run for C. Appleby. Of the others the Archipenko colt Lazzam is of some interest.

Yesterday: Well done, Eleanore Duse!

Today: Col will get the shock of his lfe, eight 2-y-o races in total and some biggish fields, too - would be quite some effort to spot everything worth mentioning.

Thank you.

Yesterday

Beverley 2.15

A very professional win for the Mark Johnston-trained Star Focus, making all, going clear and keeping on well.

Brighton 2.30

The newcomer Quick Look overcame greenness to take the lead inside the final furlong and running on well to win comfortably.

Leicester 6.20

Academy House justified the market support by just getting the better of Song Of Shadows close home.

Today

Carlisle 2.00

First season sire Lilbourne lad is represented by debutante Lilvanita. The favourite, Encantar, was a good second in a decent event at Musselburgh last time and she is a half-sister to Red Gulch -RPR 107- winner of a Listed race at LOngchamp as a 4-y-o.

Salisbury 2.10

Two FSS wit runners: Elusive Pimpernel (In The Red who is having his first run and is a half-brother to Armigerent -RPR 99- second in the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket in 2006) and Poet's Voice (Montsarrat, also making his debut and is a half-brother to two horses who achieved black-type in Italy). Hairdryer is worthy of consideration on debut as he's a half-brother to Emell -RPR 111- second to Bow creek in last season's Celebration Mile at Goodwood.

Carlisle 2.30

I think Dalghar is a FSS, whether he is or not, he has a runner here, Fallen Angel who is making her debut. Weld Al Khawan eek showed very little on debut but is a half-brother to the useful sprinter Falasteen - RPR 100. Kingfisher Girl, last of nine on her debut, is a half-sister to Caribbean Coral -RPR 106- who was placed in a Listed race over 5f. at Doncaster.

Salisbury 3.10

FSS Canford Cliffs is represented by the well-exposed Thee And Me. Racquet, trading at 10/11, was a seven-length winner over this course and distance last time albeit at a lower level. Twin Sails on her debut was a narow winner of, what looked, a decent maiden at Newbury.

Naas 6.30

FSS Zoffany has a runner with Dilly Daydream, she was green on debut at Sligo where she finished five lengths behind the winner Rathbride Raven. Brontide, second on debut at the Curragh, is a half-brother to Pleasach winner of this season's running of the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Fair Game, a touch unlucky on debut when finishing fifth behind Most Beautiful, is a half-sister to five winners. Aca Awesome, making her debut, is a half-sister to Master Of War -RPR 108- winner of a Listed at Newbury as a 2-y-o.

Bath 6.40

Motdaw, a newcomer, is a half-sister to Longhunter -RPR 104- winner of a Listed race at the Curragh as a 2-y-o. Mrs. Bojangles, who showed speed until two out on debut, is a half-sister to six winners. Balqees, two poor runs to date, is a half-sister to Capable Guest -RPR 106- placed in a Listed 2-y-o race at Goodwood and the winner of seven handicaps, a nursery project for Dave Evans I would think.

Kempton 7.20

FSS Elusive Pimpernel has They Seek Him Here in this, he's making his debut. Hawkbill, reluctant to race and tailed off on debut, has his second run for Charlie Appleby. A more likely winner for the yard is Hibou, ran well to be second at Haydock last time, he is a half-brother to a number of smart horses the best of them, Alexandro -RPR 119- winner of a Group 3 at Deauville as a 2-y-o.

Kempton 8.20

A four runner Novices Stakes and I can't find an angle on any of them. I'll give this one a miss I think.

Cheers COlin, I'm taking a small chance on Griffin Street each way in the 2.00 at Carlisle. Came 4 of 6 against 5 horses that had all run before. SHould see some improvement today from this Zebedee gelding.

i'm hoping that twin sails is better than the fav..looks it on paper..but it is 2yo we are talking about..weight concession looks a bit steep..but we shall see
