The 2025 Longshot Thread

Supreme Hurdle - Karniquet 40/1, 3 places - runner-up to KDB at Leopardstown, also clocking a fast time so could get a place. Fourth top on ORs and Timeform give it a large P. I've also taken 20/1, 3 places, without KDB with Star Sports.
Tell me you went for the place extra, or did you go 3 places? Nicely done, mate. Without KDB worked out nice, eh?

Good work, son. :)

I wonder which one of the hot-pots will get turned over. If I had to choose a shock it would be Constitution Hill even though he's among the greatest hurdlers we've seen.

It never occurs to me to dig into the bookie's pages for those extras. I was happy with the w/o bet.

I've taken 22/1 Burdett Road w/o CH. I used to back the likes of Past Master at 66/1 or 100/1 (it was always in the first three on Speed-Plus in the Sporting Chronicle) in this race 'way back in the day and I'm always looking for an overpriced rag. This one qualifies for me but it's based on a positive reading of Kempton (which Lossie hasn't harmed).

It's actually gone longer so I've gone in again. Farting against thunder has never been a problem for me.
I’ve backed all the outsiders in the hope of getting a nice ew second. Don’t think I’ll be watching the race.Too nervous. Might have to lock myself in the bathroom.

I backed BR ew at 50/1 for this race before it ran last time so I've had two place returns from it.

As one Tesco fan on here might say, every little helps but it's hard to take pleasure in getting the money back.

Oh my life. I didn’t see the falls. Thank goodness the fallers are ok. Golden Ace also falls into my backing horses that were placed last year. Who was that horse that Jeremy Scott had years ago? Was it Gone to Lunch?

Not a complete surprise to see that gappen to CH. He's reached for a big one 3 times. Unfortunately didn't get away with it this time..
I feel a bit gutted for State Man tbh.

Coral Cup - I'm really quite sweet on Eagle Fang here. I remember the last day at Ascot when he was up against some big guns in the Long Walk Hurdle and I was impressed with how he travelled for a long way in that, especially from an outside position. Looking at his form before that, there's some bits and pieces of really decent form, including behind Home By The Lee and Bob Olinger, especially given he's only a five year old and must still be a work in progress.

Okay yes a counter argument could be made that he's too high in the weights now, but he's proven he can handle it at a decent level I reckon, which is very important, and I think there's more to come. I'm backing him in the yankee and an each way single tomorrow. I fancy he'll travel into this race well, hopefully be bang there at the business end, but whether he see's it through up the hill to the line is in the lap of the gods.

Have you been reading my coral cup post Martin.

No, it was Gone to Lunch. This was a long time ago. He was a farmer who trained a few pointers but took out a licence and was lucky to have a horse like Gone to Lunch who kicked off his training career.
Ran a cracker in a Scottish National once maybe twice, one of my cliff horses from years ago my biggest success came when I backed against him once he was a very short price for a novice hurdle and I thought it wasn't enough of a test for him so had a good bet on Pettifour to beat him at 16/1. Loved the horse though and always liked Jeremey Scott when I saw him interviewed obviously had a few more decent sorts since then think Gone to lunch was his first. What a day for him today though quite unbelievable and fair play to him for having a go at yje big one.

And I was only bemoaning yesterday that the smaller trainers don’t win at Cheltenham any more. To top it all Rebecca Curtis wins the last. I’ve really enjoyed today’s racing ( although it would have been different if the fallen horses hadn’t got up). I can even remember a tv interview with Jeremy Scott when he first started training. Then, of course, there were Dubacillas trainers who took her back home to train at the end of her career and she was in a stable next to Just So. ( after a bit of googling read that Gone to Lunch had a long and happy retirement and only died a couple of years ago…)

Dubcilla brings back memories.
Master oats was a good thing but I told them all in the betting shop that dubacilla would be out the back and I wouldn't watch the first half of the race and I didn't.then when they said she's coming Steve I started to watch
Ran a cracker to be 2nd .at a big price.

First Confession in the Albert Bartlett on Friday.
Tizzard had a couple of 2nds yesterday. This can be a gruelling race for a novice.
He has won on heavy over 3m in a point to point. First time stepping up in trip under rules. 50/1.

No shortage of longshots for me today. Apologies if I've already mentioned a couple, I'm really just gathering them here. If I get the chance to post my stuff on the race threads I'll do so but I feel a wee bit tight for time for getting Friday studied.

1.20 - Supersundae (66/1 taken)

2.40 - Might I (40/1), Al Gasparo (25/1), Captain Morgs (80/1), Minella Missile (40/1)

3.20 - Chambard (66/1)

4.40 - Fringill Dike (66/1), Martator (40/1), Western Zephyr (40/1), Third Time Lucki (25/1)

5.20 - Shuttle Diplomacy (50/1)

First three in last May's Champion Hunter Chase at Stratford are big prices for the 4:40 Hunter Chase on Friday. What A Glance (1st) is 33/1, Lift Me Up (2nd) 25/1, and Fairly Famous (3rd) 20/1. The result shows that all three should see out the trip on goodish ground. Lift Me Up has fairly famous owners too ( Mr and Mrs Christian Horner ). Extra place offers would be a plus rather than just 1/5 the first 3.
