The Derby & Irish Derby 2009

Is this the most relaxed Group 1 winner Montjeu has produced? Looks a right gentleman of a horse before and after the race.

we will never know Gareth...I like STS..but IF there were any stamina doubts they would have been ruthlessly exposed there

I think that needed a real stayer..which F&G is..not convinced staying is STS's strength tbh

either way..was impressive..and what G1's should be run like..no mamby pamby jog and sprint there..no handicappers sneaking into the frame etc...if there had been any ..a proper G1

This was my very point about the need for Sea The Stars to turn up for this. I don't know if he would have won or not, but whatever about his presence Fame And Glory has stepped up signifcantly on his Epsom performance in relation to his stablemates. Stamina was not all Sea The Stars would have needed for today.

Would love to see Golden Sword be given a break now and come back for the Voltigeur ahead of a bid for the Leger.

the leger horse is F&G imo

Oxx certainly has doubts about the stamina though..so something is telling him that

imo when a horse wins our Derby..I want to see him staying at 12f..be it Irish Derby..KG..all this arseing about at 10f pees me off tbh

Masterofthehorse ran a stinker .Never really going at all long before stamina would have been an issue for him.

Impressive but a set up race for Fame and Glory against limited opposition once M of the H ran so badly .

Agree with Gareth I suspect STS would have been fine in a race run at that pace so long as the ground was good or faster. I imagine they know STS is miles better than Mourayan and will be happy enough

The proximty of Masterofthehorse and Golden Sword suggests Fame And Glory ran a much better race today. Did not even use the whip today in comparison to his all out placing to head second to Golden Sword.

Time of the race 2m. 30.87 secs.

In some respects I am glad Sea The Stars didn't turn up today. We might have had an epic battle but I think both horses would have been bottomed.

A question for the time fiends..........how did the race work out on the clock?

If there are no stamina doubts, then it was a real shame he did not turn up today as the ground was fine. He has won on much softer ground in the past.

just easy side of good should really have suited sts...now wish he had run..because i doubt these two horses will meet ever again..crying bloody shame

Golden Sword appeared to go much faster earlier on today than at Epsom so it's no surprise that he had less to give late on - he was ridden to his optimum at Epsom IMO.

Mourayan has improved for the step up but Fame and Glory hasn't done much more to him than at Leopardstown last time. He'd be my idea of a Leger horse.

That is what I had thought Gareth, but each time Golden Sword has bowled along with any sort of pace, he has comfortably beaten Masterofthehorse. Could be argued MOTH was flattered to get so close at Epsom rather than him running particularly below par today.

Agreed.

If the ground is Good To Yielding or similar at Sandown Park do we think John Oxx will not run Sea The Stars? I think not...
