The Road to the 2012 2000 Guineas

Fair enough, it will help in his bid to probably try and make all, but as a Camelot supporter i like the fact his stablemate is drawn high with him. Can see Power toeing him along for six and half furlongs.

I'm a Camelot supporter too and I think Power may well do that for him. But if Abtaal can't beat him with this advantage (drawn 2) he never will.

What do you think it's worth in term of lengths? Any chance they will all come across?

The speed of the straight mile at Newmarket is not a surprise. It is a common misconception that it is stamina sapping, when in fact it is largely downhill with level bits to a furlong out and only then a steady rise to the finish.

There have been plenty of horses placed in the Guineas, who go to Ireland and get thumped, drop to 7 for the Jersey and fail to get the trip at Ascot before eventually finding 6 is their optimum!

Some never work it out.

It's difficult to say, but it's 0.2 better on the far side and it will suit Abtaal to power on along the rail, much as Rock Of Gibraltar did to Hawk Wing (on very different going). Hopefully O'Brien will be aware of this and Joseph will be told to come over to that side.

Nothing stopping you trading out fella.:) This one's for men not boys.:)

Its all about the Kelly criterion tomorrow, the bigger the better and vice versa on Camelot:)

I'm not trading out of Camelot. No way! That won't stop me maxing on a place bet on Abtaal.

Never seen much use in Twitter before, but I've given my instructions to Anne Marie and Coolmore so they don't feck up!;)

I like your style, Steve. Balls deep on two is better than balls deep on one then.

To be honest, I'm going into my Carribean holiday funds to back Camelot tomorrow.

One or two people say I've a problem, but I say there's a recession.;)

I've re-tweeted

@coolmorestud Far side (i.e. low draw) is firmer than stand side at Newmarket. Advantage to Abtaal (drawn 2). Get Joseph over to that side!

What exactly is the basis for your Camelot speed argument Reet?

His ability to quicken, which (considering the circumstances of the race) was remarkable for an RP winner. He was Coolmore's Guineas horse from that moment, imo.
Unlike Aragorn, I also believe (nay; I'm certain ;)) that he can only improve given a stronger pace to follow.

 Is re-tweeting a good thing? I'm new to this malarkey.

It’s all kicking off. I’ve gained a dozen “followers” in the past half hour and Anne Marie has been back to me effusive in her thanks (two words). Coolmore has signed me up in a consultancy capacity on a lucrative basis. This twitter lark is a hoot. The world and it’s doings explained in a dozen words. You couldn’t make it up.

 brilliant!

Adrian Cook of the Post has Napped Power... is he not aware of the sage advice from the Slim and I?

Surely the ability to quicken is relative though? Zip Top had been comprehensively outpaced (before staying on strongly) over a strongly run 7f on his previous run and Fencing doesn't strike me as one who would be particularly suited by a slowly run race either (for what it's worth, I think Fencing is a 10f horse in the Oratorio mould).

I've backed Power and Abtaal but I don't have a particularly strong view on the race.

The 2,000 Guineas tomorrow guys. It suddenly seems very exciting. Intended to go but I need to fine tune my positions so I probably won’t get there until Sunday. It could still go horribly wrong. They all seem to be tipped. I see half sensible folk putting up the likes of Bronterre as “value”.

Be lucky...

What about Hermival of the French trio? Completely unexposed, ran a nice race in the Djebel and is certain to relish the ground at more than double the price of the other two French raiders.

Her half sister Bold Bibi did me a seriously good turn in a Leopardstown handicap a few years back as well. If that doesn't point to a Guineas winner I don't know what does...
