havnt u been waxing lyrical about grandouet for months though.its been partly your posts that have just made me stick a tenner on him on the machine.
I have mate no denying it and I believe he is the best horse in the race bar none but you need to be 110% fit to run in a Champion Hurdle let alone win one.
As clean winded as he is and the fact he did work well on Friday is a plus but I was told he did blow a bit more than he would have done pre his setback. That may mean very little as it could have put him spot on but we wont know that until he runs.
I just feel to beat Rock On Ruby if he runs as well as he did last year he's going to have to be cantering going to the last which I expect he will be and then find plenty to get past ROR who won going way last year.
I think he'll beat Zarkandar ok I don't see him winning there's too many can quicken on the spot while he can't and he's sure to be in trouble at some stage.
Hurricane Fly? after debating with EC I'm going back to thinking the Champion Hurdle he won was pretty ordinary and he's going to have to be better at 9 than he was at 7. Possible for sure but unlikely. He'll either win or be out of the 3. imo there's no middle of the road with him.
Coutryside Flame is better than his bare form of late suggest. Denis O'Regan fancies his chances that he can beat ROR as he was idling in front at Doncaster and he was gaining on him. I'd love the horse to win for John and Sue Quinn who I have known since John was stable jockey to the late Tony Charlton the original trainer but I reckon Harry Fry didn't have ROR anywhere ready at Donnie and it was a run through necessity rather than an effort to win the race.
Cinder's and Ashes hasn't run a decent race this season but he hardly put a foot wrong last year. Donald McCain is adamant he'll run a big race and no matter what they might say about Darlan not getting the run of the race last year this horse simply trounced him and the others. You'd need a big leap of faith to back him but if he bounces back he could spring a big surprise.
Balder Succes's is only there for the beer and a bit of PR for Masterson Holdings Limited. They can't seriously think he has any chance of not being tailed off.
Khyber King ran well enough behind Zarkandar to run. His best chance would be to lie way of the pace and come very late in the hope they all cut each others throats......another Beech Road? hope not
Finally my opl pal Binocular. He is very unfortunate not to have won at least 2 Champion Hurdle as AP made a complete horlicks of the first one. He is arguable the most talented horse in the field but it would seem he has a nasty habit of fooling Nicky Henderson and AP into thinking he's 100% but when he gets on the racecourse they find out he's not.
Despite Nicky blowing his horn all week he took a bit of a u-turn last night saying he could do with the ground being better for him. Since we've known that the ground was going to be soft for about 2 weeks strange he should mention that now. The fact is he can't trust Binocular as he's fooled him several times before so should he run badly he has a ready made excuse.
I'll have nightmares for a year and he wins and I don't have something on him so a score on the nose for old times sake.
I'll be rooting for Grandouet with fingers crossed
