The Well Worn Road To The Champion Hurdle (2016)

This is what i have for Annie Power, my ratings are on the right column

I think she is a 155 horse and some doubts she details full ability after the injury

Has Annie Power ever put up a time to back up her form rating?

I'm going to spend the evening checking what she's actually done to earn 162 to start with...

(I'm not a fan of mares-only form.)

She seems to have been given a walkover on here because of the 7lb allowance. I'll be completely against her on the day when the race is bet to below 1% a runner.

Well he was one I fancied to finish in the frame with or without the presence of Faugheen.

I know he hasn't raced for 2 years but I am tempted to side with MTOY. Can't see him being out of the first 3 if he retains his form (and I know that is a big if) and Stan James currently go 9s about his chances.

Annie Power's ratings going back to when she first got an OR (145)

(---- = season breaks - I'm counting Punchestown as end of season rather than beginning of new)
* - her run last week merely showed she was still breathing. Sent of 1/20 she was allowed to build up a lead as the others were not interesting in trying to get involved in a race with her and instead had their own little public gallop, only racing each other from about two out.

The 166 figure was against Zarkandar but it was over further and the time was very slow. It's hard to take that form seriously.

It stands out against her other peak of 160 and since she was not looking like beating that when falling last year I'm inclined to believe that is her ceiling.

It would be nice to be wrong and I will be surprised if she can beat the males even getting the weight as it will almost certainly be a proper race.

He did, it might have been a combo of things though - the effort of keeping up with Faugheen and then making that mistake, he might still have been feeling the after effects of a very tough race at Christmas time.

No doubt about it. They were wrong to run him so soon after Christmas in the Irish Champion Hurdle. That Ryanair Hurdle was run on bottomless ground in a faster than average time and immediately after it Mullins said this;

"He impressed me there. He had a tough race there and it's going to take him a long time to get over it. It would be a worry if we were looking at the Irish Champion Hurdle. He'll get and entry and we'll see how he comes out of today, that must have taken an awful lot out of him"

Mullins is on record on numerous occasions as saying his initial judgment there & then is what he goes by but he did run against Faugheen a few short weeks later and the scars of battle not yet healed told. He was beaten before they turned in. If they hadn't run in so soon again he'd be sitting pretty in his box rested and well ready for 3 weeks. As it stands now I think he left his Champion Hurdle aspirations in the Foxrock venue!!

All this harchi talk might get trackside posting again

Already had to correct the record once regarding how many Grade 1's he won.

Whatever you say about him, he is certainly standing the forum test of time - there aren't too many mentioning Osana, are there Grassy (I never forget)?

If Mullins has any sense he re-routes Douvan here (who will hack up) vautor to the QMCC (hacks up) AP kept in the Mares (hacks up) and VVM left as an also ran in the WH.As it stands I can't get away from MTOY even with the prep.

The only issue with Annie is she has never jumped at Champion Hurdle speed bar that last flight fall last year.
Given her size she may not be as nimble as others here.
Wide open race imo, you can make a valid case for them all nearly at this stage.
knocking horses rated 160 + that have earned their rating is a dangerous enough game as you need a top performance to defeat them; a 165 performance wins the race but a 164 does not necessarily win it, a bit like the 2 Mile Chase last year and the Gold cup in 2014.
swings and roundabouts my friends, a bit like life itself.

I notice you failed to mention how many Grade 1's he threw-away though, Tracks? Very clever of you.

Osana? Pfft. Had to pick something that year!

Good to see you posting, mate. Who do I back for Prez?

I can't help feeling that Annie Power needs further than two miles even at championship pace. All of her best ratings have come at 2m4f+ with her best rating over 3 miles. I think she'll be there or there abouts but I don't think the mares allowance will be enough.

As much as I like and rate her, I think I'd be more disappointed if she won rather than say Nicholls Canyon, Identity Thief, one of Henderson's or The New One.

I will be leaving the track if TNO wins the CH.
