Tingle Creek Chase

the race was a dream..we got just what we wanted..both horses jumped well after a couple of early casuals...sanctuaire was gutted once SS walked past him.

The back straight to the Pond fence was so exciting, and then seeing Sprinter Sacre ease by... Moments like this are just fantastic.

Everything he does just looks so easy. Spring heeled animal or what. Leaps rather than jumps. He caught one of the fences a little bit iffy but what a monster

Well Sprinter Sacre didn't disappoint, did he? He still promises to be a monster.

the last 5 years or so i think has been a heyday for racing fans both flat and jumps...then we get animals like Frankel & SS who defy comprehension by being better than horses we had previously thought the best we had seen..how can horses like this win with so little apparent effort?

we are very lucky people watching this stuff as it happens rather than on some old film clip

Frankelian sensations for me

I think this horse is a monster and I will be very surprised if he doesnt end being better than Moscow, Azerty, Denman or Kauto

After today I dont think 3 miles is going to be a problem either.

Top class horse.

OK - I'll be the first. Visually impressive though this performance was, he beat a 143 rated horse by 15l.

Yes yes yes, I know he only did what he had to, only beat what was there, did it so easily he could have had another 15lb in hand, etc etc etc but........

It's hardly form that makes him the best in our lifetime.

Yet.

Which isn't to say that he won't become that - just that this performance doesn't make him that.

It may not be a stellar-performance on the strict numbers (I'd say mid-to-high 160's)......but you can add any amount of P's and +'s as you like to the number.

Devil's Advocate...

Sanctuaire did far too much in the first circuit so you can scratch him from calculations when evaluating the form. However, Kumbeshwar was not closing at all on the winner in the last half-mile with the latter never out of a hack canter. He probably hit higher ratings last season but the promise of a 180+ performance down the line was pretty tangible.

not bad for what was an excercise canter FTO though

Sanctuaire did no more in the early stages than he did in his previous run, only this time they were wise to him.
It's his lto form that should be scratched; he's a short runner in properly contested races, and will struggle to win again this season (with the possible exception of Aintree).
3lbs difference, indeed!

not sure about this..think he will be better in the new year..he is usually below his best before January as his form lines show

i didn't think he went as fast as last time today so should have been able to beat the second at least..he isn't 100% yet imo

atm its hard to see where he will get chance to show it in the currrent 2m division.

i can't see anyone bothering to take him on for the rest of this season. some of the 2m novices could step up next year but the head of that cast is also trained by hendo.

hopefully after this season they consider stepping up with a view to king george maybe?

Tbh EC, I think they had him fit to burst today, and both trainer and jockey gave that same impression. Hasn't run too badly first time up previously, either. Fell when going OK in the Greatwood, and ran to his highest hurdle RPR on his debut the season after.
In my eyes, he's just a headcase who goes off at a million, and severely overrated beause all the cards fell his way in just one race.

Watching it again, I think you have to look at Geraghty's tactics. It looked to me like he realised Sanctuaire was going too fast and allowed him to open up a gap, at the same time getting a breather into Sprinter Sacre. It was clear approaching the Pond Fence that Sanctuaire had run out of gas, at which point he started easing down the winner with everything else well beaten off.

Kumbeshwar came into the race on an OR of 143 but I had him closer to 150. He got a canny ride today, allowing the front two to do their thing and putting daylight between himself and the others when it became clear that the runner-up spot was coming up for grabs. I wouldn't be surprised if he ran somewhere in the low 150s.

Sprinter Sacre gave him a 17lbs beating, plus the colossal amount he appeared to have in reserve. That would probably take him into 170 territory (which I had him on last year, again with '++').

I hope they let him do a Dessie and give weight away in a valuable handicap.

Are you nuts? he never beat anything a horse finished second to the greatest steeplechaser since and maybe as good as Arkle. What finishes 2nd means nothing ziltch zero..........Sanctuaire was brilliant today...even scary yet Sprinter broke him like a twig and that's the only reason Kumbushawar got anywhere near him.

We see it happening day in day out when a "good thing" has only one to beat and that one to beat ends up so exhausted running out of his comfort zone something pips them for 2nd.

Make no mistake this fellow is the new Arkle not the best since but the new............get it?

he's run a poor overall rating though..oh i don't know...he is an enigma for sure

we'll have to keep an eye on him..this can't be his best..maybe he did burn himself early

today was possibly like when Excelebration tried to go with Frankel..ran lbs below his best .

SS possibly broke Sanctuaire

Your balls he will struggle Reet.

Lay me 3/1for his next race and I'll let you sleep in the spare bedroom when you give me the title deed to your caravan:lol:

Seriously mate I saw a lot to like about Sanctuaire today and Ruby was pretty much in control of the speed he was going until Sprinter cruised up past him.

The Ruby had no choice but put the foot to the floor earlier than he would have had Sprinter not been there.

When you come under that sort of pressure you become a sitting duck yourself.

I don't think there's too many sticking around in the 2m division that Sanctuaire need fear and he's sure to win a few races if avoiding Sprinter Sacre IMO

No matter how wise they might have been at Sandown last season they wouldn't have beat him that day. Yes they are wise to him now but the only chance he had of winning today was if he could get SS at it.......they won't ride him like that again I assure you

The logical target for Sanctuaire is the 2 mile chase at Kempton on the 27th December. He had a hard race today after being a little bit moody at the start.Ruby will presumably be at Chepstow or Leopardstown.
Possibly the lay of Christmas.
