Journeyman
I'm not that old but he's the best I've seen.fact
the race was a dream..we got just what we wanted..both horses jumped well after a couple of early casuals...sanctuaire was gutted once SS walked past him.
OK - I'll be the first. Visually impressive though this performance was, he beat a 143 rated horse by 15l.
Yes yes yes, I know he only did what he had to, only beat what was there, did it so easily he could have had another 15lb in hand, etc etc etc but........
It's hardly form that makes him the best in our lifetime.
Yet.
Which isn't to say that he won't become that - just that this performance doesn't make him that.
Ryanair could have a record entry, not many will want to take him on
Devil's Advocate...
Sanctuaire did far too much in the first circuit so you can scratch him from calculations when evaluating the form. However, Kumbeshwar was not closing at all on the winner in the last half-mile with the latter never out of a hack canter. He probably hit higher ratings last season but the promise of a 180+ performance down the line was pretty tangible.
Sanctuaire did no more in the early stages than he did in his previous run, only this time they were wise to him.
It's his lto form that should be scratched; he's a short runner in properly contested races, and will struggle to win again this season (with the possible exception of Aintree).
3lbs difference, indeed!
atm its hard to see where he will get chance to show it in the currrent 2m division.OK - I'll be the first. Visually impressive though this performance was, he beat a 143 rated horse by 15l.

Watching it again, I think you have to look at Geraghty's tactics. It looked to me like he realised Sanctuaire was going too fast and allowed him to open up a gap, at the same time getting a breather into Sprinter Sacre. It was clear approaching the Pond Fence that Sanctuaire had run out of gas, at which point he started easing down the winner with everything else well beaten off.Sanctuaire did no more in the early stages than he did in his previous run, only this time they were wise to him.

Tbh EC, I think they had him fit to burst today, and both trainer and jockey gave that same impression. Hasn't run too badly first time up previously, either. Fell when going OK in the Greatwood, and ran to his highest hurdle RPR on his debut the season after.
In my eyes, he's just a headcase who goes off at a million, and severely overrated beause all the cards fell his way in just one race.
Are you nuts? he never beat anything a horse finished second to the greatest steeplechaser since and maybe as good as Arkle. What finishes 2nd means nothing ziltch zero..........Sanctuaire was brilliant today...even scary yet Sprinter broke him like a twig and that's the only reason Kumbushawar got anywhere near him.
We see it happening day in day out when a "good thing" has only one to beat and that one to beat ends up so exhausted running out of his comfort zone something pips them for 2nd.
Make no mistake this fellow is the new Arkle not the best since but the new............get it?
Your balls he will struggle Reet.Sanctuaire did no more in the early stages than he did in his previous run, only this time they were wise to him.
