What are you watching

The tele is unbelievably bad.

Yes. It seems the programmers just accept that people have ways of watching what they want when they want so no longer put any effort into scheduling 'must watch' stuff at peak times.

I've been watching my own Christmas film collection over the last week or two since there's nothing on live TV that I can be arsed to watch (other than the racing).

It's been so bad unbelievable. Tina Turner concert on last night and even that went on too long and I like TT! No 'new' films, one new drama started last night but that was last night. No The Great Escape, Where Eagles Dare, A Bridge Too Far - traditional fayre.... diabolical.

So far I've watched (pretty much in this order):

The Bishop's Wife
Die Hard
A Christmas Carol
A Muppet Christmas Carol
Ball of Fire
The Shop Around the Corner
You've Got Mail
Sleepless In Seattle
When Harry Met Sally
Meet John Doe
It's a Wonderful Life
Die Hard 2
Guys And Dolls
The Man Who Invented Christmas
The Lady Eve
White Christmas

Still to watch:
Holiday Inn
Going My Way
Lethal Weapon
among others. Some are still in the boxes from the house move and will take a bit of finding!

(Obviously not all are Christmas films.)

I’ve still not seen Die Hard! This is a huge gap in my film watching education. I was watching the programme about Scorcese last night/early morning. Annoyingly for a night owl, Sky Arts carries on throughout the night and I can’t get it on catch up. A Very British Scandal was excellent: I binge watched it last night. We just love University Challenge, it’s the highlight of our week and to have the Christmas special on every night makes me very happy. Especially as the celebrity one has easier questions.

Watching AVB Scandal with Clare Foy with that accent and in those clothes I can't get a Slutty Queenie out of my head. Damaging juxtaposition.

Landscapers is on the list that Mrs Grass has compiled, Col bach. I believe I have managed to defer the start of this until after the Darts is finished.

I managed to binge-watch all ten episodes of Gomorrah S5 over the course of a couple of days/nights earlier this week. Not sure how I feel about the ending, to be honest........but suspect I'm lamenting a little that it's all over.

A Bridge Too Far is on today at 1.10pm, Channel 5.

:)

Yes thank you I saw but a) I was working B) clashed with a lot of the racing/having to go to see my Muppet at evening stables c) phone didn't stop ringing ( only one in my section working ) d) don't have a recorder e) wanted to see the race with High Stakes in it and then completely missed it as had to take a call from a well known electric company , who having had a personal run in with them over my personal account, also don't have a scooby how to run an accounts payable department. Based in Perth, begins with S...... if thinking of switching to them I highly recommend you don't !! :(
Only hoping ABTF on again later in the week as is the norm. Seen it many times, but they just don't make films like that any more, and actual peeps who were involved doing the technical advising. Just in awe of the heroism of those men.

We were having a discussion the other day in the office ( all 3 of us ) about films never seen: I won hands down ( even giving allowance for age ) Grease, Close Encounters, ET, Home Alone, either of them, Die Hard 3 and 4, Mary Poppins, The Sound Of Music, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Charlie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory, Annie... the list went on.

Just catching end of The Great Escape... one day Steve McQueen's gonna get over that wire!
Really good documentary last night on Sky Arts about Dean Martin if they show it again/ can catch up.

Films:
Seberg. (Biopic of the actress and her runnings with the FBI in the 70s) - 5/10 Boring
A Time to Die. At least an hour too long - 4/10
Red Notice. I hate action films, so why did I watch this? - 5/10
The Death of Stalin. Very good 7/10

TV
Vikings. Could be top ten worthy by the time I finish it, currently in the early stages of season 5. Suffered a little from Ragnar's absence.
Wheel of Time. Finished the first season and it's ok but not as good as the book. May have needed an extra couple of episodes.
The Witcher. Haven't read these books and apparently it's not hugely popular with people that have, similar to WOT. However, I really like it. Currently two episodes into season 2.
Succession. About to start season 2, season 1 finished brilliant.

I never really liked Vikings after Ragnar left with the exception of one episode with a battle scene that was as good as any battle scene I’ve ever seen. Can’t remember which series it was in though. Didn’t find Ivar as charismatic as Ragnar and I haven’t got round to watching the latest series.

Someone recommended that to my daughter. I watched the first few seasons until it moved away from the BBC. We spend part of the year in Bamburgh which is where Uhtred came from so it did grip me right from the start. Watched the first episode of The Tourist last night. Has a bit of the Australian humour in it that I like ( think Rise of the Wilderpeople etc) mixed with a lot of darkness. Promising. ( I’m still loving Britannia but holding off from watching series two for a while as I know I’ll binge watch it once I start)

Death of Stalin is one of the best films of the last 20 years, and Euro's shabby 7/10 is no reflection of its merit.

G-G, you must correct some of your misses - most notably Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang, which represents the height of the van Dyke, Fröbe and Jeffries oevres.

I watched Don't Look Up last night with Mrs Grass. Somewhat panned by the critics, it is a little dubious in parts e.g. the bizarre requirement to have Ariana Grande (or Barry Fanny Grande, as I call her to the consternation of my teenage daughter), but it is otherwise very good. Jonah Hill may just about be my favourite actor of the 21st Century, and is once-again excellent.

Dexter New Blood.

Ruined the ending of (for me) the greatest TV ever written. Slowly redeeming itself with this series. Would recommend highly
