You don't know what you've got till its gone - Tony McCoy Retires From Racing

Another lost cause pulled out the fire by the master at Ascot again there, Inspiring stuff.

There's a post on FB quoting him as saying he won't ride at Punchestown, and if he doesn't win the GN , then last ride/day will be Sandown end of April.

I'm surprised he is saying won't ride at Punchestown to be honest. Last chance; some good rides may be going begging as Bazza and Davy Russell out?

He reckons if he rides at Punchestown he might as well carry on. Wants to finish at Sandown (if he doesn't win the National) as they have named the Celebration chase after him.

He said he's going to ride at Sandown P because they've named a race after him.

You can bet his agent negotiated a nice fee for him to turn up.

It's sure to be the biggest turn out at Sandown since Arkle won the Gallagher Gold Cup

I meant to post this a few days ago, but Betfred are offering 4/1 that AP will become Sir AP in the New Years Honours list. I reckon it's not a bad bet, so much so I almost posted it on Slim's 'Will Win' thread!

Someone told me that at the festival, reckon it's a good thing.

The feature race on both days for AP
Can he complete the fairytale tomorrow?

Anyone listen to the 5 live audience with AP tonight, it was also streamed live on the BBC website, I watched the latter most enjoyable.

Every time he is interviewed his face seems to be saying " Why have I done this -I don't want to stop yet "

Interview on the radio sounded the same: it really seems like it's not his decision?

i think from the moment he announced it its clear its the family that want him to stop

he clearly doesn't want to retire himself...on the ML other week he basically said his life is over in his mind when he stops...but if he doesn't retire he will be divorced..which told you who it was that wants him to be done. You can't blame them really in such a dangerous sport.

its something i've always thought about people who are top sportsmen or get success when young..when it finishes life must seem awful humdrum because no matter what you do it will never replace the buzz or give you the esteem that being really good at something gives you

its the downside of being good at something i suppose...on the other hand at least he has had the success...most people lead humdrum lives from get go

I'll be at Sandown on Saturday with the mrs, brother-in-law & sister-in-law to see him off.

Any whispers for anything running let me know.

If your there and want to say hello then pm me. I wont be drinking as I'm the designated driver

I think as much influence as his family's concern for his welfare has had, at least as much has to do with his morbid fear of one day not being champion.

Yes, he'd probably be okay for a couple more years but it'd end someday so why not stop now and kill two birds, so to speak.

I think tomorrow will be like watching someone at their own funeral; I can't celebrate for him as I feel really sorry for the man.

Agree, I think he really needs to find a role to motivate him and jeep him busy or he could be in serious trouble. I think it is going to be extremely emotional for him and he will find it hard to keep it together. No reason why he has to though. No one would think less of him.
