Flat horses to note for the season

Tomorrow:

SHAHBAZ - (Ayr, 16:50)
Book Bounce Bingo At Ayr Racecourse Handicap

timeform
Newmarket 9f nursery winner who ran well after 6 months off when third there in April. No extra only late on when sixth of 7 in handicap at Ascot (10f, soft, 3/1) just over 8 weeks ago and can give his running again back down in trip.

Take this sack of **** off the list please Bar. Ran Quinault to within a couple of lengths a few starts back giving him a pound and now never features in a shithouse gaff handicap at Nottingham. Shoot me if I ever suggest a fuckign Hugo Palmer horse ever again.

:lol::lol: - gone!

I'm vexed by the step down in trip even though that Ascot run has been franked by Massai Maura (at Epsom behind Torito and Balance Play at least) and by Westerton. Interesting that Power of Gold is also in this. I started tracking him after his run behind Coverdale and Roaring Legend at Redcar and I backed him the next day at Newmarket where he was well backed but led for some odd reason. The form of that race has worked out but I saw Palmer (not a fan) had entered him up over a mile and I nixed him from the tracker - I had 12f in my notes! What happens - he wins over 8f at Donny (13/2). My bad.

Shahbaz ran over 10f as a Juvenile (behind Have Secret, another horse on this list) and he's out of a Dalakhani mare. Now he's running over a mile. Mmmmm

My take:
Didn't stay in 2 steadily run 10f races, early season. Been itching to run over 1m,but grounds been against him.
Has 2 other 1m entries locally, but considering the distance he's travelled, today looks to be the day. Jocks ridden him before, whivh is encouraging.

Had a small interest.

Shahbaz has been waiting for soft ground which it appears he has got today. He has loads of speed so I am not worried by the drop back in trip. He seems in cracking order at home so will go close.Charlie Fellows

Was told yesterday by someone who would know first hand that Desert Crown working VERY well at home and KG definitely the target.

The market said it all re Danger Alert and I knew I was backing it in spite of the market. If it is definitely bound for the sales it still makes sense for it to be trying at some point before then.

(Maybe if I knew which sales it was bound for I could watch out for an entry a week or so before said sale.)

I reckon Outsider and I will be in agreement that if Mr Wagyu turns up at the Curragh in a £100k handicap just before the Stewards' Cup then the double is a strong possibility.

Not on this list but I started tracking Distinguished Lady after her staying on run behind Radio Goo Goo at Chester. The form has worked out and DL ran ok at York the next day but plainly needed stepping up. I backed her last night for a race at Chelmsford today at 11/1 - she was smashed into 11/2 this morning so I didn't put her up before a late drift. She was abysmal and I've said it on another thread re Haynes and Boughey - they are both iffy. I don't back Boughey horses anymore and Haynes can be added to that black list. Today either DL wasn't off or her trainer is just shite.

Pont Audemer qualifies as he does run on the flat but his next win may come over hurdles.

Really took my eye at Sligo today travelling like the winner turning for home but appeared to blow up as he found very little from there on in.

He drifted considerably in the market, he needs soft ground and I amagine if he drops a couple of pounds in the handicap the money will be down.

SHAHBAZ 3rd - and Racing Post agree with you, Euro - Shahbaz, back in trip, stayed on well to grab third and shaped as though in need of a return to further.

One tomorrow - you’d better hurry 1/10 won’t last long!

KATHAB - (Ripon, 18:50)
Sky Sports Racing Virgin 519 Maiden Stakes (GBB Race)

timeform
Shaped encouragingly at Newmarket and York on first 2 starts. Upped in distance, not ideally placed when fifth of 7 in maiden at Sandown (10f, good to firm, 11/2) 23 days ago. The one to beat down markedly in class

Today:

LAND LEGEND - (Newmarket, 13:50)
Bahrain Trophy Stakes (Group 3)

timeform
Excellent second to the smart Chesspiece in 1½m handicap at York's Dante meeting and not seen to best effect in King George Handicap at Royal Ascot since, staying on when badly hampered inside final 1f. Remains capable of better but this is a big jump in class.

Not pleased Ferguson has put him in a Group race, there is plenty of mileage in his mark. Still, **** happens. Luckily I believe there are plenty of horses from this thread declared for Fri/Sat. Very much looking forward to seeing Harry Brown off bottom weight taking on Kings Lynn and Rohaan at Ascot.

Didn’t look wildly out of place, but probably a bridge too far atm. Good result for Godolphin and CA who always brings few to the boil for this meeting.

5th/6 25/1 - Land Legend had little go right in the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot and he ran well on this rise in grade considering the race wouldn't have been run to suit. Entered in the Goodwood Cup and Irish St Leger, his mark of 89 will be blown after this, but he has potential to make a smart staying type.RP

Tomorrow:

FINAL WATCH - (Newmarket, 16:45)
bet365 8/1

timeform
C&D winner. 5/1, creditable second of 6 over C&D (good) 15 days ago, running on. Each-way shout.

INTRICACY - (Ascot, 16:35)
bet365 Bet now 3/1

timeform
Scored at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in December and better form in defeat since, runner-up in handicaps at Sandown and Ffos Las the last twice. Trip/ground fine and likely to be in the mix if responding well to the first-time cheekpieces.

LIKE A TIGER - (Newmarket, 13:50)
bet365 14/1

timeform
Off the mark at the third attempt at Kempton late last season and was impressive when making a winning return to action over this trip on the Rowley Mile in April. Not at his best in a listed contest last time but by no means discounted back in handicap company.

LION KINGDOM - (Ascot, 16:35)
bet365 4/1

timeform
Improved with each of his 3 starts as a juvenile and shaped well when fourth in a 15-runner Newmarket handicap (1m, good to soft) on return in April. This stiffer test may help unlock improvement and he's high on the shortlist.

LOCAL DYNASTY - (Newmarket, 13:50)
bet365 11/2

timeform
Dubawi colt who was 3-4 as a juvenile and creditable third in the Dee Stakes on return at Chester (1¼m, heavy) in May. Followed that with another solid placed effort on handicap debut at Royal Ascot (1¼m, good to firm) and he's one to consider, for all that William Buick prefers Tagabawa.

MAMMAS GIRL - (York, 14:40)
bet365 6/1

timeform
Newmarket winner on sole 2-y-o start and while it was hardly a vintage renewal of the Nell Gwyn that she landed on return there in April, she did the job in decisive fashion. Well held in pair of Group 1s since but her sights are now lowered and this drop in trip is a potentially good move.

REMARQUEE - (Newmarket, 15:35)
bet365 9/2

timeform
Won her first 2 starts, edging ahead late in Fred Darling on return. Well held in the 1000 Guineas next time but firmly back on track when length second to Tahiyra in Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot 3 weeks ago, hampered over 1f out. Remains with potential.

SECRET ANGEL - (York, 14:40)
bet365 10/1

timeform
Scored 3 times as a juvenile, most notably in listed event at Deauville. Clearly retains ability judged on what she's shown this season but yard saddles a stronger candidate in Swingalong.

On Remarquee already and have backed Local Dynasty and Lion Kingdom. I get why Buick prefers the former's stable companion, he was almost as eye catching as Peruse in the KGV, but is the step back guaranteed to suit?

FINAL WATCH - (Newmarket, 16:45)
bet365 8/1

timeform
C&D winner. 5/1, creditable second of 6 over C&D (good) 15 days ago, running on. Each-way shout.

WON 4/1 - FINAL WATCH was keen early, but likes Newmarket (both courses) and the rain arrived to boost his chance. Challenging widest of all, he picked up smartly to lead and, although not the most consistent, is pretty useful on his
day.RP

WON 2/1 - INTRICACY was 3lb well in following his Ffos
Las second 10 days earlier and had the aid of first-time cheekpieces, but he had to prove himself on this softer ground. It proved no inconvenience whatsoever and he held on well after racing handily throughout.RP

timeform

6th/9 - Lion Kingdom, off the track more than 12 weeks since a good run at Newmarket, was held up in rear and never got on terms. He's better than this.RP

4th/12 3/1fav - Local Dynasty didn't get the rub of the green at Royal Ascot last month and it was the same case here, short of room in the pack before running on nicely once seeing daylight. He's well up to this mark and looks likely to improve stepped up in trip.RP

6th/10 12/1 - Mammas Girl returned to form down in grade despite seeming unsuited by the drop in trip, unable to go the early pace but finishing to good effect.RP

REMARQUEE - (Newmarket, 15:35)
bet365 9/2

Won her first 2 starts, edging ahead late in Fred Darling on return. Well held in the 1000 Guineas next time but firmly back on track when length second to Tahiyra in Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot 3 weeks ago, hampered over 1f out. Remains with potential.

2nd/8 11/2 - Remarquee, a bit unfortunate in the Coronation Stakes, again ran well without exactly knuckling down to the challenge, albeit the winner was in a different class. Now owned by Wathnan Racing, she looks ready for 1m2f, although isn't in the Nassau and her trainer indicated she'd stay at a mile for now.RP

AWAAL - (Newmarket, 16:00)
bet365 Bet now 11/2

timeform
Excellent second of 22 in Lincoln at Doncaster (1m, heavy) on reappearance. Likely found race coming too soon when last in French Listed race 19 days and quickly back on the up when 4 lengths third of 30 in Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. Will be fine at 7f and capable of winning a big handicap.

BLUELIGHT BAY - (Newmarket, 14:50)
bet365 Bet now 12/1

timeform
Fairly useful form last year and improved when accounting for 6 rivals in a Salisbury handicap (1m, good to firm) 17 days ago. 5 lb rise tolerable but he will need to step another notch if he's to follow up here.

CUBAN THUNDER - (Newmarket, 15:25)
bet365 Bet now 50/1

timeform
Opened account in York maiden on penultimate start but couldn't land a blow in Coventry Stakes last time and looks up against it again here.

FAYLAQ - (York, 15:10)
bet365 Bet now 16/1

timeform
Losing run stretches back to 2019. Has resumed for his new trainer in good form but he rarely finds as much off the bridle as he promises so percentage call is to look elsewhere back in trip.

FINAL WATCH - (Ascot, 17:15)
bet365 Bet now 9/1
timeform
C&D winner in September and ran well on his return when making the frame at Newmarket in April. Had excuses next time and soon back to form when runner-up also at Newmarket 16 days ago. One to consider with good-value claimer on board. Engaged 4.45 Newmarket Friday.

HARRY BROWN - (Ascot, 13:45)
bet365 Bet now 14/1

timeform
Won twice from 5 starts this year and shaped much better than bare result when ninth of 26 in handicap (9/1) over C&D (good to firm) 22 days ago, first home in group. 4 lb out of the handicap but must enter calculations.

HAVANA BLUE - (Newmarket, 14:50)
bet365 Bet now 9/2

timeform
Opened his account in 7f handicap on the Rowley Mile in May and progressed again when following up in good style on this course (7f, good) recently. More needed up 6 lb but he's clearly progressive and the booking of Ryan Moore adds to his appeal.

KERDOS - (York, 14:35)
bet365 Bet now 9/1

timeform
Landed a Haydock maiden and Windsor novice event last autumn and made pleasing return when close second in handicap at Lingfield. Resumed progress when close second of 26 in handicap at Royal Ascot (5f, good to firm) 22 days ago. Needs considering.

MONTASSIB - (Newmarket, 16:00)
bet365 Bet now 15/2

timeform
Low-mileage 5-y-o who was progressive last year and improved again when justifying strong market support in a 7f handicap on the Rowley Course here in May. Paid for racing up with a strong pace in Buckingham Palace at Royal Ascot since. Capable of bouncing back under Buick.

SPRING DAWN - (Ascot, 16:40)
bet365 Bet now 11/4

timeform
Runner-up in 7f maidens on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket prior to making all in a novice event on the July course there (7f, good) recently. Likely to benefit from this step up to a mile now handicapping and, like stablemate Mountain Song, she needs considering.

Actually prefer Quantum Impact in the 14.50 at Newmarket (watch the Britannia back) but I will back Bluelight Bay as well.

3rd 7/2fav - Awaal, having his first start over 7f since his debut, has developed a profile as a smart handicapper, as his third in the Royal Hunt Cup proved, and this was another good run in defeat.RP

6th/8 5/2fav - Took keen hold, prominent on far side of group, pushed along 2f out, soon ridden and lost position, weakened inside final furlong (trainer's rep had no explanation for the poor form shown; vet said a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities)RP
