    The Gold Cup 2010

Seems funny to me that when Kauto Star runs badly everyone says he's just had an 'off day', yet when Denman does similar (and he's only conclusively run badly once in his life) he's 'gone'...

    The Gold Cup 2010

I would be interested to see how long it took from 4 out in the Aon to the line compared with the Game Spirit. Master Minded was no doubt easing up, but I suspect they crawled home in the Aon. All is far from lost if you're a Denman supporter in my view.

    The Gold Cup 2010

It's an emotive subject and of course people will be firmly in one camp or another. But what makes both horses great is the quality of each other (if you get me). To dismiss Denman as a handicapper or Kauto Star as being a poor jumper takes the shine off the other's achievements. Both horses...

    The Gold Cup 2010

There was a very interesting thread on Betfair a few days ago. Assuming the times are correct, someone wanted to put to the test the theory that Denman has incredible mid-race pace and therefore timed him in the 2008 Gold Cup from the second last on the first circuit - where he took up the...

    Hennessy

Denman was outstanding today. Far far too good for a class field which included several that could have been well in at the weights. The astonishing fact is that he might not have even been at his best. If Nicholls can eke just a little bit more improvement out of him then they won't be...

    Arc 2009 - travel advice

If you're going to the Arc there is one single GOLDEN rule you must follow. Never, ever try to head back home on the Sunday. It will ruin your day. Instead stay over the Sunday night and head back on the Monday. Remember the Arc is generally run as the second to last race, often late off and...

    Gold Cup 2009 (was: Denman)

Doesn't anyone think that maybe we've all over-reacted to Denman'ss Kempton defeat? For a start, he wasn't totally tailed off was he? He was well beaten sure, but this was on soft ground where distances can be exaggerated. Furthermore, anyone can see that he hated the track; he was on the...

Kauto Star Dessie equal ? dont make me laugh

No point trying to compare horses of different generations - we try to compare those of the SAME generation every day and get it wrong!

    The Sprinters

12 months I'd say.[/b] Sorry - although Sakhee's Secret was a Group 1 winner at three I wasn't classing him in the 'top' bracket. We've had a few years now where the sprint division has been woefully poor. Given that there are now five G1s over 5-6f open to 3yo+ in the UK alone we really ought...

    The Sprinters

Interesting that Myboycharlie is being trained for a sprint campaign - it's been a while since we had a top sprinter that was a 3yo.

    Kauto Star Or Denman

Kauto Star is a tremendous racehorse, no doubt about that, but he was comprehensively outpaced, outjumped and outstayed by Denman last Friday. The same applies to Exotic Dancer. Am I the only one here who seems to feel that the benefit of the doubt should be given to Denman? After all, he did...

    Kauto Star Or Denman

Perhaps I should slightly qualify that view! In a strongly run race with Denman in it I would expect Neptune Collonges to run up to the same form as yesterday. It's fair to say, however, that without Denman in the race Neptune might have been ridden slightly more conservatively and Kauto would...

    Kauto Star Or Denman

Yes. Over a properly run three and a quarter miles I would argue that Neptune Collonges would have a strong chance of beating Kauto Star.

    Kauto Star Or Denman

I'm sorry I just don't see it. He jumped the second big and bold without any semblance of a mistake. That said the pace on the first circuit was quick too and when horses are jumping at a strong gallop that will bring out flaws in Kauto Star's technique that otherwise go unnoticed. He didn't...

    Kauto Star Or Denman

Just got back from Cheltenham so only reading this thread now for the first time. It's going to run and run (a bit like Denman) but I just can't figure out how the KS fans can't accept Denman is quite simply the better horse. So what if the ground is tacky? It's the same for everyone and...

    Kicking King

Nickname looks as though he's just a bit lazy to my eyes. At Leopardstown he was one of the very first to come under pressure but stayed on best of all and it was a similar story today. I wondered if they might fancy a crack at against Kauto Star in the Ascot Chase?

    Hennessy Entries

Just got back from Newbury - what a day. Inglis Drever was pure class, but Denman's win was the kind of performance you see only a handful of times in a lifetime. Certainly the best effort in a major handicap that I have ever witnessed. The whole way round Denman was pure class and from five...

    Loft Conversions

Thanks for all the advice and help on this... I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that the primary function of the converted loft is to house my model railway. Cue all the usual "train spotter" jokes...

    Loft Conversions

Very useful and interesting information from both of you there - thank you. I guess the big issue for me is to decide just how far to go with it. Insulating seems sensible enough as does flooring. The jobs I wouldn't fancy would be the roof window, plastering etc. Need to save though!
