If I was making that decision I'd want to pretty sure that Zarkava was heading to Newmarket.
Zarkava's connections said after the Marcel Boussac that because of her highly-strung nature, she'd be staying at home for the Guineas. Given that Abdullah has at least one other creditable Guineas candidate in Sense of Joy that is British trained it makes more sense not to pull all his eggs in one basket.

What about Fast Company? Is with Goldolphin now, presumably will be aimed at Guineas. Is it too early to ask how he might compare with Ibn? He was probably my favourite 2 year old last year. Perhaps he lacks scope - I'd be interested to hear anyone's opinion who got to see him in the flesh last year. Considering his inexperience, nothing I saw in the Dewhurst would lead me to believe he can't beat New Approach.

For the love of God, it's the eve before Cheltenham and someone wants to talk about cheese nibbler racing!!!!! What is the world coming to?!?!

If that race had been run on fast ground neither of them would have been close to Ravens Pass. Gosden`s colt will hopefully have his ground in May.

I got involved not long after the New Year, but Timeform have given him a big thumbs up in their Annual. That might have quite a bit to do with it.

As far as the night before Cheltenham, that alerts me to the fact the flat is fast approaching...and it's time to get back in the saddle, so to speak. I'm hoping Clopf runs a big race tomorrow, for what it's worth (not a lot, I'd say :))

I'm not sure on what grounds you can make the assertion that Raven's Pass would have beaten Fast Company on better ground in the Dewhurst. Fast Company showed on his debut he handled fast ground and in a race where nothing seemed to be going right for him, due to the way he was ridden or his inexperience perhaps, he quickened up like a very good horse and showed a good, honest attitude before giving way to NA. Could you tell me what timeform had to say about Fast Company?

See Sense of Joy is also being backed. I was a big Day Flight fan but was deeply unimpressed with SoJ at Goodwood - maybe she is better than that but I'd need some insider info to know that and all I have is my eyes so couldn't be backing her for a classic. At least Hughes won't be on board I guess. (I still wake up in a sweat thinking about his ride on Home Affairs in the Diomed Stakes at Epsom a couple of years ago.)

It's hard to look beyond New Approach, provided they train him for the race as a miler, and worry about him as a 12f horse after they've won the Guineas.

If they try training him for the Derby, with the Guineas as an incidental entertainment on the way, then that might take the edge off his speed.

Given the very steady early pace, there was no chance whatsoever of Sense Of Joy winning impressively at Goodwood. She was always getting there, though, and won a shade comfortably. She's better judged on her highly impressive debut win in what was a very fast time for a debutante. You don't need "insider info" to know that she has Classic potential - you just need to understand the value of the clock.

Perhaps you're right on the clock. I agree she was always getting there in the Prestige and it was run at a dawdle. I wasn't suggesting she didn't have classic potential, she's nicely bred for one thing, more that I wouldn't be interesting in backing her based on what I'd seen. I didn't like her style of racing at Goodwood, she looked like she might be highly strung and a difficult ride. Although maybe that was just down to the pace.

Sounds weird but I always watch the classic market this week (Cheltenham) as time after time there is always a move. A few already...Ravens Pass widely cut again into 6/1, Ladbrokes have introduced Washington Irving into the Derby betting at 14/1 while Cape Amber has been cut by a few bookies in the 1000 Guineas. Ok I swear no more flat talk this week!

Washington Irvine, is going to need to improve a hell of a lot to be a Derby horse.
Interesting that Stoute has Confront still entered for the 2000G.
Ravens Pass 6-1 is short enough at this stage.

Washington Irving rated 75P by Timeform.

New Approach doesn't have the aura of invincibility about him that I felt Teofilo had and I think he's bang there for the talking at Newmarket by a specialist miler. On fastish ground I'd be really confident that the one to do it could be Ravens Pass. He tanked through the Dewhurst but was all at the sea on the ground when push came to shove.

Personally I'd like to see Fast Company again before I could entertain him in the Guineas. He couldn't go the gallop early doors and I have my suspicions that he may be a bit flattered coming off the strong pace.

I note Myboycharlie is out to 75/1 for the 2000 Guineas on Betfair tonight.
Hope he's ok as i was hoping to see him lining up against Sahkees Secret

Funny you should say that David, as I get the same feeling, even though you could make the case that New Approach has the stronger form
