A Great Weekend in Dublin

Whoever's picking up Betsmate might be able to collect all three.

If I'm collecting at the airport I will be able to fit four in if, Grey, you can take a lift with one of the other south siders. The four is based on small bags of course in the boot.

What about the middle seat AC???

Seriously, anybody need a lift from Louth/Meath direction, just give me a shout.

I won't need tickets for the racing and I won't be able make the night out either (Krystal is a nice spot though) BTW. Hope to show my face both days though.

Just found I can do the air fares for £32 return !!!! inc taxes!!

Arrgghh just lost my last post, I see ... I asked:

Can you give any idea (not knowing Dublin prices) what the total cost over there, not counting booze of course, would be - very roughly?? ie hotel, tranport, restaurant, raceocurse entrance etc etc ... As I'm quite ancient and also quite poor I might forego the nightclub LOL

Just so I can make a judgement on what the total cost might be. I haven't been paid for a while by two clients, and there is no guarantee I can prevail upon them, but if it's not too huge I might be able to carry it!

That's a good price for the flights. And I wouldn't put off the nightclub just yet. There's a late night bar beside it too which you have access to and plenty of outdoor heated areas in the club so plenty of "quiet" zones.

On the costs, hotels in Dublin are around the €90 mark. You need to weigh up city centre location versus racecourse location and figure out how you are getting around. For example, the Bewleys in Leopardstown is €89 for a room but you will have to pay €20 for a taxi unless you get the tram which is a ten mins walk away. It goes straight into the city in 25 mins but stops at 11.30pm. So you can get in but if you want a latish night you have to get a taxi out. The upside is that you are beside the racecourse for the Sunday racing. There is also a Bewleys in town at €99 a night but you will pay about €7 to get from town to the hotel on Sat night and need to get to racecourse the next day. Jurys have two hotels, one on the east side of the main bridge in town and one about 1km to the west of the bridge. Or you could stay in the Harcourt hotel which is where the nightclub is. It means you can get the tram to the races the next day as there is a stop about 100 metres from that hotels front door.

Racecourse entrance is €25 but €20 if booked online. Restaurant prices vary. Not sure what the menu is like in place Grey booked. Mid range restaurant, starter for €7, mains for €20 and dessert for €5 which bottle of wine at €20-25 and beer at €4-5. Normally I'd say €40-50 depending on whose drinking wine. But again, I don't know what this restaurant is like.

Below are links to a few hotels in town and near the racecuourse.

That's great Cantoris. I booked the flights anyway as at that price (it was £42 all in inc taxes etc) it's not a disaster if I don't make it! I'm not fussed aobut hotels - I usually stay in the cheapest B&B I can find as I don't spend any time in the room and don't need breakfast! but I'll try the Harcourt

Will get my mind around the rest - Grey are you doing us a blook booking at Leopardstown?

There are a good few B&Bs around, particularly on the main roads out of the city, and they will be crying out for some business. Will do some checking for you.

I think i have talked Hezz into coming with me to these days so hopefully wel get our details sorted early this week. Im just home from a weeks skiing and am cream crackered.

Good news, HS, Del Boy and Hezz.

On a point of information, are Hezz and Hezz333 separate people?

Cantoris has put up some very useful info. The Winding Stair fits into his definition of a mid-range restaurant. Class wise, of course, it is in a much higher category.

I looked at its website - not cheap by my standards but it looks an excellent all-round 'dining experience' in vierw of menu, ambience etc. Good choice for the occasion!

Thought sod it and have just booked my flights (would be due at Dublin Airport between 9am & 9.30am on the Sat morning if anyone can pick us up).

Stayed at the Maples House Hotel in Glasnevin last time which is about an half an hour walk from Busaras.
Buses go to Leopardstown from Busaras (when I went to the Curragh it was about €12 return) so would imagine it might be a bit cheaper to Lepoardstown.

Here's just hoping the weather behaves.

Will bring my camera for a few piccies as well of course.

Yeah i tried registering a couple of times previously Grey, 'hezz' must have registered and wasn't aware. Unless there's another Hezz out there.....which i doubt.

Yeah i'm on for the weekend alright! Giddy up!

LOL! That'll make two of us then...

I found a single for €60 with breakfast at the Clifton Court, Eden Quay, just along the same bank of the river as the Winding Stair. Their official booking site shows no vacancies but they assured me yesterday they did have more rooms esp twins -
Cantoris kindly found me the direct tel number which is 0035 31 874 3535
You will speak to Tahir, and there is also an email cliftonhotel@gmail.com

I do like to be central - and you can't get much more central than that!
- and they even have live Irish music at weekends in the bar
(I know - but I am a tourist) http://www.cliftoncourthotel.com/

PS I'll be there c45mins before the rest of them, my flight is at 6.45 from Stansted, dirt cheap!

So I'm picking up Ark, Headstrong and...............at the airport? It will only be about half hour or less to races from airport so was planning on picking up from airport around 9.30 or 10 am. Just need to arrange a meeting point. Maybe one of the cafes in arrivals. Anyone else to collect? Sorry haven't looked back up through the thread.

I reckon we've got five to pick up: Ark, Headstrong, Betsmate, Flame and Rorydelargy. The first four should land at or before 9 am. I don't know what time Rory's flight arrives.

I'll be landing in a private helicopter on the fourth fairway of the golf course 20 minutes before the first race. Cantoris, can you be there in a golf buggy by any chance? :D

Seriously, very good of you to accomodate the guests. Looking forward to this.
