Ante-Post Punting Plans/Propositions Thread.

Given the amount she paid herself last year she can afford it. £214m for anyone who missed it.

The £214m is down from £250m last year but with profits down 90% I’d be asking questions if I was a shareholder

Bookies.....shareholders...the corporate race to the apparant top (thereby shaft anyone and everyone that gets in your way, oh but do make sure they get a free bet along the way... )

Now there's a topic for another day that won't go away!!

Who sold off the Tote again?

So she didn't make it throwing her customers RPT's 85 percent on her firms casino games?

Crookies not bookies half the time I reckon.

Not even big Ray Winstone can persuade me otherwise.

(Sorry).

The Coates family run Bet365 very well. They own it and Denise runs it. I'm pretty sure they also own Stoke City.FC. Easy to resent how much they earn but they are one of the few bookies that let me have a bet.
I also understand that they are major backers of several charities

Bet 365 is still the best.
She pays her taxes and employs 6000 who pay their taxes and she gives a lot through her charity,100 million last year.and they havent gone offshore to avoid tax like most so I say good luck to her.

Well said.

What's your best guess as to why that is, Tout?

I don't resent anyone. Certainly not some woman who I don't know.

Don't have a clue as to why they accept bets from me when it is almost impossible for me to have a bet with the vast majority of bookies. i don't bet at the level I used to but for many years have had to use surrogates for anything worthwhile.

As to resentment I refer to the large volume of people that criticise her for making money whenever her earnings are reported. She gets a lot of stick however she operates a legal business and doesn't have a structure to avoid UK tax as do several others. i'm not commenting on anything said in the thread but generalising.

Well answered thanks Tout.

I wasn't being cheeky it just fascinates me how people can get stopped from backing horses.

They must be highly intelligent beings.

I am just in the mainstream myself I make no apologies for that. I have good days, bad days, might finish up per every three months or down, or per year etc.

I think I bet what I can afford.

But then I have never had so much money as to know what it feels like to blow the lot either!

Afterall, you have to have a serious amount of capital to actually lose it.

Sometimes the mainstream is not such a bad place to be. Betting and watching racing as a hobby etc.

I wish we (the mainstream) could all win more but that goes without saying.

We hear a lot about the 2 percent or whatever it is that make bookies fearful of taking a bet and the X amount of percent that are at the other end of the scale, taking their own lives or seeing their lives destroyed by gambling.

The 'mainstream' if you get what I mean seems to getting marginalised, either by perception or reality, or both.

Even as a recreational punter you get nearer to one end of the spectrum or the other over time, I reckon.

The lines between success/addiction/problem gambling can get very blurred along the way too.

No doubt these times of extreme financial pressure are having real effects also.

We all await that government report with interest I guess.

Reading these threads over the years, it's clear that a lot of forumites can't bet with some bookies or have their stakes limited and/or conditions restricted.

My B365 account has pretty much been been my most profitable account since day one but they've never restricted me, even though I've heard stories from some members that they are restricted.

The weirdest one for me is Boylesports. I think in my first half-dozen bets I had a couple of winners - just my ordinary stuff - and since then they just won't let me bet with them. Pathetic, really.

Exactly the same DO, 365 my best account, no restrictions. Although I don't test them, my maximum stake on any bet with any single layer is £30, I always spread my bets around. Sky are the worst, just pennies allowed.

Some of my bets with B365 have been well into three-figures - especially for winning the league - but they've never even been referred on, or if they have they've never said.

I sometimes wonder if limits and restrictions are because the bets coincide with information coming into the bookies; that the bookies think bettors are acting on the same information. Again, short-sighted of the bookies.

No exaggeration to say the day Bet365 started restricting me was my most painful ever loss related to betting. Worse than Annie’s fall.

I’d love a proper 365 account

I’m also keen on Frero Banbou for this. Likely to be better suited by the ground & slightly shorter trip than his two runs this season at Ascot

Disappointing from FB in the end. Thought I’d at least got an eac way return as it was an AP bet but B365 say only 2 places so a loser

The ground not all that soft on the chase course, he needs further than two miles unless it's a proper bog like it was at Lingfield last season. I think he's handicapped to win but needs the right conditions.

What I like most about bet365 is if there is a rule 4 and your horse drifts they still give you bog.
Yesterday I did hurricane Harvey and there was a 30p rule 4.
I still got 6/1 but I also did it with w.hill at just over 7/1 but got paid out at 4.9/1

I was shut down by B365 a few years back, when Defi and The Biter both went in at Cheltenham.

I say “shutdown”, but that’s not strictly true.

It’s probably 18 months since I last checked, but the account is still live, and they never stopped me from trying to load it up. Unfortunately, they set a maximum stake of the princely sum of 1p (I kid you not), on any market I wanted to bet on.

Maybe I should give it another spin, to see if they’ve softened-up.
