How is Duke of Marmalade higher than Dylan Thomas???? Makes no sense. One kept his form right through the season, raced against and beat some good horses and the other beat Pipedreamer, Phoenix Tower and Papal Bull, and lost his way quite badly at the end of the season.

Presumably Duke of Marmalade is more expensive because he's a first-season sire and therefore more in demand?

High Chaparral is in a no win situation competing with the likes of Galileo and Montjeu.. would like to see him shipped off to the States or elsewhere.

He has no chance where he is.

Agreed that HC is in a no win situation.
Some of these look expensive given the current economic situation, apart from anything else.

High Chaparral's fortunes increased dramatically when his first crop reached 3. They obviously need time but I think he is capable of siring a top horse which is more than can be said for a lot of the ones they stand. Choisir for me is value. He can get tough and early types.Night shift was a good servant.

Dalakhani's fee has been increased to €50,000, whilst both Sinndar and Azamour have had €10,000 reductions, from €20,000 and €25,000 respectively.

Sinndar looks quite the value sire to my eyes.

So what is "private"...obviously deals to be done depending on your mare but Galileo, Montjeu and Danehill Dancer's average individual fee?

CURLIN, still rated the world's top racehorse by official handicappers, has been retired to stand at Lane's End Farm in Kentucky, it was confirmed on Friday.

Owner Jess Jackson has ruled out the possibility of one last hurrah for the highest prize-money earner in US racing history, who will stand at a fee of $75,000 for the 2009 covering season.

The four-year-old son of Smart Strike - also a Lane's End sire standing at $150,000 in 2009 - is retired after winning 11 of his 16 career starts for earnings of just over $10.5million.

Trained for most of his career by Steve Asmussen, Curlin was never ridden by anyone other than Robby Albarado, under whom he established himself as unquestionably the world's top dirt performer.
After finishing third in the Kentucky Derby, Curlin won three of the most prestigious races in the States last year, namely the Preakness, Jockey Club Gold Cup and Breeders' Cup Classic.

After routing his rivals in the Dubai World Cup in March, he won the StephenFoster at Churchill Downs, the Woodward at Saratoga and another Jockey Club before being beaten behind Raven's Pass on an unfamiliar all-weather surface at the Breeders' Cup in Santa Anita.

Will Farish of Lane's Endsaid: "Curlin's performance on the track, his pedigree and his conformation make him the most exciting sire prospect to retire in many years.

"We are honoured to have him join his champion sire Smart Strike at Lane's End."

Royal Academy is permanently in Australia now, only serving minimal books. They have left him down here due to climate. Would say his best two horses were Bel Esprit, who was the Champion Australia 2YO of his season in Australia and outstanding 3yo sprinter at WFA and Bullish Luck who won 4 Group 1 races (3 in Hong Kong, 1 in Japan and placed 3rd in a Dubai World Cup).

Am surprised both him and Hurricane Run are still in the UK, and not in Japan at stud.

Anyone remember Oath, the 1999 English Epsom Derby winner? He was sold earlier this year and now stand's at the Maharaj Rajendrasingh Idar's Pratap Stud Farm in India.

Early yet to be sending Hurricane Run to Japan without him having his first runners over here.

I agree with Sheikh, Choisir looks the best value there provided you have the right mare

Yes, saw him at Goresbridge before he was sold, smallish but well bred.

Oath never got a fair shot tbh Grand Armee. He won the Derby and fractured a shoulder/pelvis (I forget which) exiting the stalls in the King George - far worse Derby winners got better chances than Oath ever did.

Ex-Ballydoyle inmate Yehudi is at stud in South Korea too.

Darley bought Saoire Abu at the mares sale yesterday and Unsung Heroine has been sold and is off to Austrailia.
