Champion Hurdle 2014

He wasn't 10 four or five years ago though. I think Graham Cunningham made a great point on the Morning Line last Saturday re his possible age related vulnerabilty on good ground.

Age excuses were made last year.

Arguments about the scarcity of a crown lost and recovered were made last year.

Both torpedoed clean out the water.

Cunningham's 'too old for Good ground' waffle is also horse-sh*it.

Don't align yourselves with the fishwives - unless you have already been in to have your shawl fitted, of course.

I am Joe Namath.

That is all.

But the class of field he faces is so much better than last year. That's got to be a concern, to even his biggest fans.

He has already fu*cked two of the four 'class' horses in the ass - laughing at them as he drew level on the bridle at the Lep. The English pair will get similiar treatment in Cheltenham, and the only 'concern' I have is whether he will win far enough to shut the fkin fishwives up for good.

Expect no rationale discourse from me on this thread from this point onwards. I will not hear of defeat, and will make ridiculous straw-man arguments to trash the chances of the pretenders (feel free to go nuts when I do, otherwise there will be no point).

He hasn't been too over-faced so it's not age that worries me and while I think -until proven otherwise - he is still the one to beat, I am concerned over how he was pushed along downhill last year.

Instead of being able to come back on the bridle in between the final two flights this year, he will most probably find The New One accelerating for home and if he's good enough to respond to that there could be the small matter of My Tent Or Yours following him and ready to pounce.

He couldn't pull it back when Rock On Ruby offered the same acceleration that The New One will, albeit ROR from further out.

Not enough runs into The Fly before Chelts in 2012. Fact.

March 2013 run over-played.....Ruby changed his hands for a couple of furlongs until HF came right back onto the bridle turning down the hill. Never came under genuine pressure at any stage - Ruby was just wakening him up - then put him to the front too soon (couldn't be helped, given how well he was going) and he dossed all the way up the hill.

HF possibly becoming lazy in his dotage - probably because he's been unextended to win 95% of his outings, and it all comes too easy to him.

I think when we have people resorting to Graham Cunnigham rarionale im an attempt to find away of beating the fly it says it all really!

Out of curiosity a question to all of the Fly fans,I'm not knocking the horse at all,I've never taken to it like others but the record speaks for itself.....Do you think he is value now at 3/1 and what's the shortest price you would back HF at?

He’s very decent and apparently still capable of hitting a mark around 170, which is close to his best. But The New One and MTOY are already at the same level. And Annie Power (who could be anything) if she takes part in this rather than, or in addition to, one of her other possible targets would add to the mix. The Fly deserves to be thereabouts but 10-y-os need to be exceptional to win this and I’ve never seen him as quite that. It will take a huge performance to beat The New One or MTOY and I don’t see it in him. In fact I just don’t see anything out there capable of matching these two unless its Annie Power. Logic tells you she won’t run, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if she was preferred to her stablemate in the end... which is a rather long-winded way of saying 3/1, or 100/30, the Fly is probably not good value. I'd want at least twice those odds and then wouldn't be enthusiastic.

All true Fly followers will have filled their boots at 13/2 and 6/1.

I thought the 6's available a couple of months ago was great value e/w.Will definitely be a lot shorter come te day with the euros going on it.Im in the younger brigade camp also Steve.TNO to take him off his feet a la Rock on Ruby, with MTOY waiting behind.

And so it begins

In yer hole.

Perhaps it would have been better to have said a phrase that Grasshopper has used in the past is "horses will make fools of us all eventually".

Reasonable and coherent, simmo, and therefore of absolutely no use to me.

Where is the chatter from the harbourside?

Perhaps the high-tides and severe flooding has resulted in much net damage.....and the croans are too busy overseeing their repair, to indulge in their usual gossip and hearsay?
