Cheltenham 2018/2019

24th would explain why King was talking about needing to get one more run into Good Man Pat if he's to qualify for the novice handicap (or Ultima).

I was confused as to whether a novice needs to have run three times over fences before being entered but it would appear that they can enter them with less runs than that and then get the final run(s) into them between entries and the weights calculations.

In which case - if my theory is accurate - I'd expect a 5 day dec today.

Your theory is accurate. Qualifying runs include the 24th.

I can't remember if they publish a list of entries without weights or just give the numbers entered in each race.

They're obvious enough though and he'll be happy enough for people to focus on those two as his plots. I've got my eye on four others and I'm waiting for both entries and the subsequent weights allotted.

Actually I've just checked entries for Glenloe and I can't see any in the next five days which means he wouldn't qualify for a handicap chase.

Maybe the NH Chase after all where is price of 25/1 nrnb would be too long? Or maybe a curve ball and he goes back over hurdles. His jumping over fences hasn't been the best so there would e some logic to it.

Al Dancer being scrathed from the Ballymore is mildly interesting. Never looked to be much doubt after Saturday but listening to Sam on 'Luck on Sunday' it appeared it wasn't 100%

Greatrix has made his mind up too with La Bague au Roi being taken out of both the RSA & JLT

and I'm happy to see Le Richebourg taken out of the JLT. Another unlikely outcome but it removes any doubt.

Elliott suggested he'd go Arkle in today's RP but who knows. But that would make his last run even more puzzling as switching a horse off to the point he's adrift of the field is no kind of warmup for an Arkle

Good to see HARDLINE is still entered 2m 21/2m 3m and 4m keeping us guessing.

Covered myself with a bet on it in the Arkle last night (NRNB) as if it does run in it I can’t see him being 25/1 on the day with plenty in the race odds at the moment unlikely to run. If he goes 3m or above then I’ll wait until the day. I just hope he runs as well as I think he can.

Last night I backed Cap York to win the Pertemps final hoping it would finish in the top 4/6 today ready for the festival. Obviously wins today (no money on it today). Anyone know if many winners of the trials win the festival race itself or just the placers? Would look myself but I’m in work. Thanks.

Been up for a gander at the horses walking and trotting etc pre Tattersalls Sale tomorrow. Watering in three places, all in the middle of the course. Two definitely on the Cross Country course, hard to tell whether the third is as well or whether its near the first fence after the two and a half mile start.

I think theres been a few.

Only two winners in the last twenty years actually won a qualifier, Fingal Bay 2014 and Ballyfitz 2008. In both cases the final was their next run and within 35 days of their Qualifier win.

Thanks for all your replies gents, much appreciated. I’m gutted it’s won today to be honest as I’d have rathered it finish outside the places but there you go. My own fault for not backing it today!
