Cheltenham Festival 2012: DAY 4

Last horse I had a look at before the race started was Alderwood. Went through his form. Concluded it hadn't a chance.

Just about sums up the week

Well it's down to Boston Bob to save the week now. Come on son. Not confident at all.

Imagine if you had a Gold Cup horse but somehow didn't realise it and instead of having him in the RSA in 2010 you enter him in the Midlands National instead. Surely our opinions on a horse can simply be made via the races he contests as much as the way he runs and jumps. Synchronised didn't look like a mudlark at Leopardstown that's for sure. Can someone put me off backing him as my possie in the race is appalling?

I fancied him for one of the other races this week. He won me a lot of money at Killarney last year. Step up in trip suited. Thought the 2 miles might be a bit sharp for him. Those Alderbooks do improve with age.

McCoy gave him a decent mention in his column in the Telegraph.

Mount Benbulben out to an almost backable price (but jumping right would put me off).

Rocky Creek is interesting.

Ahh...I didn't have a look at that...

The Alderbooks are generally a bit slower but then that was a stamina test. For Non Stop is an Alderbook and probably needs three miles. Ah well...

Here's to Boston Bob but I'm terrified by the erratic nature of the Mullins horses performances. I'd like to know the geography of the yard and whose been eating together at this stage. Some have run to form...others 'flat'......and others just impossibly badly.

Incidentally, I'm told that Ipsos Du Berlais is fancied. I struggle to believe it considering that both Carberry and Russell would have turned it down....but passing on the info etc etc etc

Didn't ruby learn from hurricane fly FFs.another winner from the front.got to give midnight chase a chance in the Gold Cup

What do you mean worst ride?? That was perhaps the BEST ride.

The horse is slow. I said as much beforehand.

He had to use all of him to just get into contention. He's no slower than MB and he was well behind him. I really don't want Kauto Star to win now after that. Overrated cockend.

Nothing wrong with ride at all . I absolutely love the winner and Bruce may well be right..

ok its made my week a good one but northern jump racing has had a great week and maybe a much needed one.

Come on, you're talking out of your pocket.

Ruby had to get at him to just maintain his place. He simply could not go any faster. It was a great ride to keep him going and going, and he got him through several traffic issues well.

You couldn't have asked for more if you backed him.

Im not sure what this "winning from the front" theory is about, but its surely as difficult at Cheltenham than any course in the country. The winner was a better horse. Pure and simple.

Anyone who thinks HF only lost the race because he didnt hit the front 3 out is bonkers IMO

Nothing is coming from that far behind this week. Carbon copy of the HF ride. Am I talking out of my pocker? Yes. Is Ruby incredibly overrated? You betcha.

Exactamundo.

HF, and Boston Bob, lost to better horses on the day.

A bit like Barrys brilliant ride on RT yesterday. Precisely. It took some riding to get him there

Sod that. The winner is an absolute star

Euro,

He couldn't get any closer - the horse was one of the first to be niggled.

I backed him and would have liked him closer there.saying that he had to slow him up coming to the last and the winner was finding.story of the week for me.I have to back midnight chase now

Sigh. Have backed that horse all season, and only had a tenner on at 10's due the ground worry. IF the front two turn up at Aintree, I'll back BB to outstay the runner up again no matter how much closer Ruby wants to sit.

When the pace hotted up a tad. They didn't go that fast early doors - MB pulled for his head a bit- and he should have been amongst the pace setters then, or at least not far behind.
