Good to see the old boy getting out in one piece.

He was seriously flattered by his last Aintree win and the handicapper put him up far too high. He's had no chance since.

Some horse. Had him backed at 125/1 in his first National. We lived the dream till the Bechers on the second circuit, was obvious he wasn’t getting home from then. Recouped the losses and then some on the Becher Chase the following season.

Fell at its last 2 visits to Aintree, so good news he’s out in one piece.

In his first year at Pipe's David Noonan was asked what young horse impressed him.
Vieux Lion Rouge was his answer.
Martin Pipe asked him why he picked that horse over the rest.
David replied there was something about the horse he liked, namely the ease with which he did everything .
Not a bad judge.
