Equine Retirements, Long Term Injuries and Departures

Willoughby described Inchila as ill-fated tonight on RUK - last thing I heard last week they were confident she would make a good recovery from her pelvic fracture - anyone else heard anything ?

I think Lammtarra was the first flat horse I ever took much notice of. RIP.

Facebook are talking about Grand Cruz now being a show horse, looking fine!

Some nice pictures of Jack The Giant in the show ring on the Retraining of Racehorses FB page.

THE racing career of one of Britain's most popular and talented fillies has come to an end with news that Group 1 stalwart The Fugue has been retired after picking up a knock in last weekend's Coral-Eclipse Stakes.

Got in from shopping to hear about The Fugue; thank goodness she's ok. Absolutely love that horse; a real life Black Beauty.

Saw him at the Irish National Stud a few years back. Cut a sad picture really standing on his own (at that time) in a field whereas the other paddocks held mares and foals.

Seems he had a couple of friends later which probably brightened up his life.

R.I.P.

Saw him there back in April where he was part of the Living Legends alongside Moscow Flyer,Kicking King & Beef Or Salmon

Some horrors of summer jumping at Cartmel this afternoon - Galley Slave dead and by the looks of it Alaplee too.

SEE MORE BUSINESS
Monstrously powerful and relentless force at his best.
Probably robbed of 2nd Gold Cup (foot and mouth)
2nd King George was ridiculous.
Sad news.

His Gold Cup win should have changed the trajectory of my life-financially.He was great that day-better then the average Gold Cup winner.

Backed him the previous year when Cyborgo carried him out. Imagine if Twitter had been around then, I was convinced it was done on purpose.

RIP

Ditto. I was on Teeton Mill in See More's year but remember roaring SMB home. Fantastic horse thanks for the memories. RIP

He was a real favourite of mine. It's sad but nice that he just died curled up in a field.

I backed him the year Cyborgo took him out. I was convinced he'd win. I was just as convinced the next year when he was dismissed by many but looked utterly fantastic in the pre parade ring. The winnings were nice, but seeing him win was even better! Gutted that he didn't have have another chance in 2000 (Istabraq as well)

(Part of my job in those days was to ring up trainers who were in a restricted zone and tell them they couldn't run horses from there anymore...fun times. Not. We knew about Cheltenham before anyone else obviously but it seems to me that there was a huge sense of resignation about the whole thing, we just focused on Sandown instead. Worked hard.)

I remember as a novice he could not beat Doran's Pride and then fell in the Racing Post Chase when favourite. For those two reasons I found him slow to warm to. Silly me!
He really came into himself after that and he grew in my estimation when running so well in Gold Cups at 12 and 13.
Fitzy gave him some ride in his GC win and boy did he respond !
One of the Cheltenham heroes both in victory and defeat.
