Poor Davy Condon is out again for another long spell, and maybe for good.

From irish-racing.com

Davy Condon has been forced to retire from the saddle due to a spinal injury.

Condon was riding Portrait King in the Grand National at Aintree when he fell at the third-last, leaving him with a spinal concussion.
It was the second time within a year that he suffered a similar injury.

Condon had resigned himself to the fact he would be out of action for a lengthy period of time but after seeing a specialist on Wednesday he has been advised to call time on his career.
Dr Adrian McGoldrick, chief medical officer of the Turf Club issued a statement on behalf of Condon which read:

"Davy Condon suffered a spinal injury in a fall during the Grand National at Aintree.
"This was on the background of a previous spinal concussion from which he had recovered fully and had been passed fit to ride by our consultant neurologist.
"Davy was reviewed yesterday by Dr Brian Murray, Consultant Neurologist, on behalf of the Turf Club.
"Dr Murray has recommended that Davy retire from horse riding, be it professional or recreational, due to the risk of further spinal injury.
"Davy has been referred by Dr Murray for a neurosurgical opinion as he has an ongoing disc lesion in his neck."Davy has fully accepted the medical advice and will be liaising with the Irish Jockeys' Trust with a view to future career options."

The best of luck with whatever you do next, Davy

Training or riding?

If its the former it would seem a no brainer, the jumps games prize money is horrific.

Injured jockey Robbie McNamara has said that he is not giving up on a career as a trainer even if he doesn't regain the use of his legs

The 26-year-old suffered eight broken ribs, a punctured lung, multiple fractured vertebrae, internal bleeding in his chest and stomach after a fall in Wexford on April 10 and has no feeling below his waist.

Speaking today on At The Races from his hospital bed in the Mater Hospital, McNamara said: "The ribs are healing but I've no movement from the waist down.

"I'm able to lift myself up, turn myself over in the bed, get into the wheelchair and that's with broken ribs.

"I've got two titanium rods either side of my spine and they moved the muscles away from the spine to put them in so that's probably the sorest part."

McNamara stunned his therapist during his first tilt-table test as he was the first patient she had treated in four years who hadn't fainted when the table he was strapped to went past 50 degrees.

He has been waking at 5.30am each morning to prepare for physiotherapy to give him every possible chance of regaining the use of his legs.

McNamara said that he was prepared for the eventuality that he may not recover fully.

"I can do 80 per cent of the things I used to do and if it stays the way it is then it's not the end of the world," he said.

"I'll be able to drive a car when I get out of here and I'll find some way of playing golf and doing other things."

Timmy Murphy rode his first flat winner of the season on a 33/1 poke at Nottingham this afternoon

He set some sort of record today for consecutive winners at the same racecourse being the longest apart, was something like nineteen years ago he rode the winner of the last ever national hunt race there

I'm surprised at this.
Didn't think riding donkeys around Cartmel and Sedgefield on wet Tuesdays in November was his style at all.

Not sure it will be quite as rugged as McCoy's deal with him.

Assume BJG will still ride in Ireland on Sundays - unfortunate if Mark Walsh if true

Wonder who Nicky gets to replace? NDV?

Doubt if that is the plan......Barry may been seen less rather than more in Ireland.

AP only rode about 50 times per season in Ireland while Barry rode 5 to 6 times that amount.

Incidentally Nicky Henderson only has about 7 active horses in training for JP

If Barry is stepping into AP's shoes then it could be Irlend that sees a lot less of him

Well take me out and shoot me!!!

I thought for some reason Barry lived in England.

Best you stand that last post on it's head and you'll get a better idea what the future holds
