Miling Division 2010

I think Hannon is one of the top five trainers in the UK EC1, he's top top class but I'm a realist and in this situation, Dick Turpin isn't being given the chance to prove how good he is.

I'd be confident he'd beat Canford in the right circumstances (not really quick ground basically). As Hamm says, he's beat him more than he's been beaten by him (I backed both of them in the Guineas) and his last run looked top notch. I actually think they don't want to run him against CC as they don't want the whole "best we've ever trained" line made to look silly.

I'd argue exactly the opposite - by avoiding CC he is being given a better chance of winning races - there are enough mile races for both of them

I doubt very much that even a last win DT would have caught RVW in that final furlong - i doubt any horse around would have reeled him in

just been reading some old threads re Hannon - you must have changed your mind since last year :)

Eh nope.

Not sure what ones you are refering to but I would say that it was along the lines of them specialising in early 2yr olds that generally tend not to train on.

Some on here may be aware that Laura Manley and her fella are personal friends of mine and I e-mailed your points of view to her and asked if she would like to reply. She sent me an e-mail today.

Dear David,

Thank you for your email. I have forwarded it on to my father so hopefully he will respond directly to you. It’s all very interesting.

Have not forgotten about photo – just haven’t got around to it yet!

Laura

I can't promise he will reply but if he does I will post it.

The difference being stoute ran all 3 against each there whereas hannon refuses to.

By my reckoning Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin have already taken each other on 3 times, when there haven't been other options that the trainer has felt suitable. There is no shortage of mile Group 1's between now and the end of the year, it's just common sense to spread the squad around.

He's not though, he's sending DT to lesser races like the Hungerford and shitty Group 2s round Deauville off the back of an improved run when winning a Group One.

Prix Jacques Le Marois
Prix Moulin
QE II
Premio Vitorio Di Capua

Think they're the only open age/sex Group 1 mile races left (obviously there's the Foret at 7f too to consider).

Any news on whether DT or CC are staying in training at 4?

He could have run in the French Guineas instead of ours and maybe taken in the Jean Prat rather than the SJP. Oh wait:o

I received another e-mail from Laura and she says unforunately my father doesn't want to be drawn into commenting.

I would like to add something about the Sussex Stakes that I know for a fact. Had the ground been good on the day then both Dick Turpin and Canford Cliffs would have run and had the ground been g/soft or softer then Dick Turpin would of run and Canford Cliffs would have been withdrawn. No decision has been made yet on Dick Turpins next race but ground conditions will be a determining factor.

Dick Turpin definitely runs in a Group 2 over 1m2f at Deauville this weekend. From a selfish point of view, I'm looking forward to seeing him at Deauville. From a racing point of view, it's a borderline disgrace that a Group One miler is being stepped up in trip and down in grade for no good reason.

You forget to mention that Hannon state's he will then either run in the QEII or the Moulin so saying he's dodging is a bit harsh. I think Hannon's been pretty sporting - It's ok for Coolmore or Godolphin to field multiple runners because it all contributes to the same end. Much more difficult for Hannon and the fact that DT and CC have met three times so far and only avoided each other in the irish/french guineas (The sussex was purely down to ground) says he's been pretty sporting in my eyes.

No good reason for him being stepped up in trip? Well it increases his options if he can prove his stamina, there's one. And I can think of 50,000 reasons why it's better to test his stamina in a French Group 2 than the International for which he needs supplementing.

I thought it was 60,000 so that's 10,000 more just in case you needed them!

Stud value as well - If CC and DT stay in training at four (Which looks likely) and they know DT will stay 10f his year looks very different. If he can win G1's at a mile and 10f he will be worth a lot more...

Not directed at you but if they are so sure he will stay 10 furlongs, why are they running in a relatively mickey mouse Group 2 instead of a Group 1?

Nonsense.

For now though isnt it hamm? Theres a relatively gettable 10f grp one at the end of the season to go for isnt there?

Dick Turpin supplemented for the Juddmonte. Seems like they have no idea what they are doing, skipping from one thing to the other. I reckon he has a right chance if he stays.

Kapow - Dick has been supplemented for the International...

As i will be there i'm pleased to hear it!!!!
