Novice Chasers 22/23

I think I'm just tired of the perversity of it. The one result every race that pisses me off the most happens. Like, I really fancied Gallop de Chasse on Friday for Venetia and it was 4th. And then Venetia cleans up yesterday with horses that had far more murky a form case than he did.

And today, the horse Might Potter beat fto, Mars Harper - that one was really overpriced for a Grade 2 the next day, the fav fell, and ******* Midnight Run, a horse I've backed loads does Harper. And of course The Mighty Potter, form not franked at all, wins today.

If a horse takes to jumping fences like Banbridge has, much like Edwardstone honestly, I think the Hurdle level they achieved has no relevance.

By and large I agree but I always stress that 10lbs is purely notional, based on my own figures over the past 40-odd years.

There was also no particular reason to believe that 3SL wouldn't take to fences just as well as Banbridge.

No concrete reason but I would argue that the likes of Edwardstone and Banbridge are outliers in terms of their jumping accuracy. I think the ground was against him today under soft conditions (and a passive ride) and chances are a more talented rival with a bigger engine might do him at Cheltenham, but I've not given up hope.

Yes, I think I conceded as much in my earlier post [re Banbridge].

Flame Bearer - probably the novice chaser I'm most looking forward to this season - is declared and jocked-up at Navan on Saturday. Forecast looks reasonably mild in comparison to some other courses, so hopefully no issues with it going ahead.

Great, with Cheltenham hopefulls, I love seeing them get a raceday at Navan

Mullins finally getting some of his novices going.

Appreciate It goes today at Punchestown, with Flame Bearer declared for Naas tomorrow, and El Fabiolo declared at Fairyhouse on Wednesday. Strange that none of them are being kept back for the graded races at Limerick and the Lep over Xmas, but at least they're getting to the track.

I'd expect their plans to be; Saint Roi 2mile G1 Leopardstown, Kilcruit 2.4m G1 Limerick & Minella Cocooner & Classic Getaway 3m G1 Leopardstown.

Dysart Dynamo & Sir Gerhard for the two Leopardstown beginner chases.

And out of interest Eamonn
Who do you see as his key horse in each championship race in March

He already looked beat going to the second-last, I reckon, PJ.

He's possibly needed it after a long lay-off, but Mullins' other novices seem not to have been found wanting for fitness, so can't really say I'm too full of optimism after that.

El Fabiolo didn't break out of a canter, got tight at one or two but very impressive...

I found nothing impressive about El Fabiolo when you consider nothing else was put into the race

The Stewards in Ireland are the laughing stock of NH racing.

Appreciate impressed me much more and does look like a Cheltenham sort to me

Exactly. If Journey with Me hadn't been in that race yesterday against Flame Bearer he'd have looked similar. You learn nothing really if a horse is just allowed a soft lead.

Put in the race, they couldn't get into it. Colonel Mustard was driven to close at the end but couldn't make up an inch on a horse that was cruising on the bridle...

This is geting mixed up...to date for me Appreicate It is the most likely Cheltenham winner........all we need to know now is where WPM decides to run him

Dont write off Dysart Dynamo.

If he takes to fences he could be the one.

I dont think he was that cooked in the Supreme despite the silly pace. Would have had him above Jonbon
