Novice Chasers 22/23

Put away was meant here as in, not to run to his best effect as opposed to rest in his stables

PJ, if you meant "Given 'quieter assignments' or 'not run on his merits', so as not to fu*ck-up his mark for the 2023 Hennessy", I don't think that will be the case.

Just watched yesterday's race.

The conspiracy theorist in me is running riot.

Cobden, for me, took a pull on Monmiral towards the end of the back straight and allowed J to go a long way clear before closing the gap again up the straight without effort. West Cork wasn't off an inch, being given a public gallop before closing down the front two from the home turn.

I reckon connections of the beaten horses had more than their mortgages on Jonbon.

Time for me to put my money where my mouth is...

While I accept Jonbon looked the part, I'm still convinced he was allowed to win that race. I'm not going to say he isn't good enough to win tomorrow - he probably is - but I was extremely taken by Boothill the other day and have gone in reasonably heavily at 10/3 in opposition. I'm not sure there will be an awful lot between the pair at the line tomorrow and I think Boothill is seriously overpriced.

I'll be happy for him to vindicate that last sentence.

No complaints. It looked to me like they quite fancied Boothill and that he was there to take advantage of any flaws in Jonbon. He's run his race but Jonbon was just too good. Quite impressive, even.

Got to be impressed with that from Jonbon today, the distance he put between himself and the 2nd, at and after the last, was very impressive, he wasn't hanging around was he!

Drinmore always one of my favourite races of the first half of the season.

I suppose Banbridge can’t be grudged his place at the head of the market, and his chance is obvious. I’m just a little surprised that a Mullins horse that’s won three on the bounce, hacking-up each time, is an unconsidered 14/1 shot.

Have I missed some critical update on Authorised Art, because the price today looks very appealing?

I've taken 11/4 Three Stripe Life.

I loved the way Banbridge took the Cheltenham fences but he has already improved 10lbs on his hurdles form whereas TSL only had a hack round at odds-on on his chase debut. He's entitled to improve 10lbs on his hurdles rating too which, were to achieve it, would mean Banbridge finding another 10lbs or so from somewhere. I wouldn't rule it out, especially given that he seemingly jumps for fun, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Ban 143 nh 153 nc
3sl 148 nh

More like 6?

If a horse takes to jumping fences like Banbridge has, much like Edwardstone honestly, I think the Hurdle level they achieved has no relevance.
