Novice Hurdlers 21/22

I could think of a thousand things better to do with my money than lay Constitution Hill.

I think a smart punter would back Jonbon at 11/4 for the Supreme.

If Constitution Hill flops Jonbon would go 6/4 at best and you could make an instant and bigger profit laying your bet off.

If he wins you still have your bet on Jonbon.

This time of year a lot of the bets I have are multis on relative shorties combined with Cheltenham horses. So I have Stolen Silver today in doubles with Galvin and Dysart Dynamo (Ballymore). Jonbon is already in an ante-post double with the Chiefs (Superbowl) protecting my nice position on Constitution Hill (as well as my bets on the Packers and Bills) and last week I tied Jeremy's Flame to Journey with Me (also Ballymore). It's all about getting to the Festival in such a strong position that's it's very hard not to show a healthy profit.

Anyone brave enough to lay Constitution Hill today?

I know he doesn't do it with his very best horses - unbeaten records seem to mean a lot to him - but Hendo hotshots have a knack of getting beat at odds-on in trial races.

I'm seriously thinking about laying him today.

I've decided to indulge my whim. The deciding factor was his price for the Supreme. I think Hendo doesn't like the pressure of a possible favourite for a race like the Supreme. From memory, Shishkin and Altior had already achieved more by the same stage and were still decent prices for the race.

I'll be more than happy to lose the bet though. It's always great to see proper horses.

Woosh! what do we have here? This horse has gears and he never came out of 2nd gear there

Now favourite for the Supreme and rightly so.

In a Nicky Henderson perfect world he'd probably be happy to leave the Supreme to Constitution Hill
and run Jonbon in the Ballymore.

Maybe the time has come to be thinking about them going their seperate ways?

I know he's run more than one in the race before but not when both looked like they could win the race.
Sprinter was very immature and Nicky made no secret of the fact Spirit Son was the yards best chance and of course Buvi was only there for
experience and was given a real easy time of it behind Altior.

It would make perfect sense to split them as the prize money is the same for both races.
so don't be surprised if one of them does go Ballymore.

Just looking back at the result, the form on the face of it is nothing special with the second and third rated 125 and 129. I wonder what the handicapper will do. 149/150?

I think that if either move up to the Ballymore, that it will be Constitution Hill. I don't see the trip as an issue for him.

QUOTES: The big question that everyone's asking me now is what will I do with Jonbon and CONSTITUTION HILL. I asked Nico if he thought CONSTITUTION HILL would go any further and he said 'no' so we'll be sticking to two miles. Would Jonbon go further? I don't know but nothing he's done so far would suggest he needs to. Nico said he knew within ten strides going to the start that the horse would be happy on the ground and that he was happy the entire way. He also said he couldn't believe how far clear he was without even having to give the horse a click - Nicky Henderson, trainer.

Opposition whatever, that was a second incredibly impressive performance and all I hope is the Supreme has the main protagonists turn up. Despite my financial commitment being elsewhere I find it hard to see him being beat.

This. Think we saw the winner today. This is me with Sir Gerhard going through a few multis. That Champion Bumper form isn’t stacking up the best.

Think we’ll get more than 2/1 on the day though. Let Jonbon win and a Sir Gerhard to mop up at DRF, and we could be looking at 5/2 - 3/1 on the day.

Like Faugheen and Vautour Willie Mullins would split these 2 in a minute...Jonbon to me is so laid back he looks a King George horse in the long run...CH an Arkle or maybe a C. Hurdle horse

Is he possibly ground dependent and beat very little today?
You're the 2nd poster to have suggested this..the first told us he was laying Constitution Hill in one breath and in the next breath he was suggesting the opposition was rubbish...he of course is wired to the moon and always has been. You on the other hand are simply asking a question and a good one at that..I tend to look at how far did the 2nd beat the others by and the answer is by some way and easily...I think he's definitely the real deal and the second is a very nice horse who was outclassed by a very special horse

Constitution Hill is almost certainly not ground dependent, and is clearly a high-class novice.

Has he enhanced his Supreme Novices credentials today? Not really - he’s just proven that he goes on any type of ground and is head and shoulders above what’s been thrown in his direction so far.

Should Jonbon be upped into the Ballymore after this? Almost certainly not. He’s won twice from the front off nothing-pace races, and there’s no racecourse evidence he is a stayer. Additionaly, his breeding suggests he will be best served by the minimum trip.

Let them go head-to-head at Cheltenham - against the best of the Irish - and get the Festival off to a proper flyer…….and may the best horse win.

Working out which is best is a headache I could live without...no doubt the bookies will shorten them both upon the day so for those who haven't done so already dutching them looks like buying money

It would certainly be an interesting start to the festival. Neither of them have got out of second gear yet, so what they’ve got is anyone’s guess. I

Of course people immediately think Spirit Son/Sprinter Sacre and Altior Buvier D'Air ran in the Supreme but they were hardly off level pegging, Altio and Spirit Son were by far the better fancied.

No one want to see both run in the Supreme for financial reason more than me but cast your mind back to 2012
Simonsig ran in the Ballymore and the JP McManus owned Darlan finsihed 2nd in the Supreme so I am not prepeared to count my checkens before they are hatched

Money may have very little to do with but the runner up if they both run in the Supreme just cost his owner the downpayment on a 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan:cool:

Nicky has just said he is going to speak to the owners about splitting them:blink: JP sent Champ, Yanworth and one other. name escapes me something like karaback finished 2nd, in the Ballymore before so nothing to say he wont do the same with Jonbon
