Charle Smirke rode Derby winner Never Say Die to a record 12-length victory in the 1954 St Leger.

On this day in 1992, Dr Devious and St Jovite fought out a thrilling finish to the Irish Champion Stakes

Having made my way to Doncaster for St Leger meeting I observe Madraco falling in Portland Handicap bringing down two other horses.Madraco broke off hind fetlock and jockeys Ray Cochrane,Ian Johnson and Paul Cook injured.

Highlight of the day was Rafha winning May Hill Stakes from Knights Baroness.
Both fillies won Oaks at Chantilly and The Curragh respectively in 1990.

On this day in 1991, Toulon, trained in France by Andre Fabre, provided Pat Eddery with his second success in the St Leger.

14th September 1992 Surprise Offer won at Bath to give Richard Hannon his 1,000th British winner.

14th September 1985 Green Desert (Lester Piggott) won the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster. Greatness was achieved at stud.

In 1886 Fred Archer won his 6th and final St Leger on Triple Crown winner Ormonde.

He was Lord Howard de Walden's 400th winner and 35th Group Race winner.

The Nalgo Novice chase at Market Rasen attracted 3 runners.
Between them they fell twice, brought another down once, and refused three times.
Vantard won after having been brought down, fallen when remounted and was remounted again. It must be on youtube somewhere!

On this day in 1990 Paul Cole became the first trainer to complete the English-Irish St Leger double when Ibn Bey followed up Snurge's win.

L'Escargot came out of retirement to run in Kerry National where he was beaten a head by Black Mac who was receiving 25 lbs.
It was his third Kerry National run.Owner Raymond Guest had left him with Mrs Dan Moore on the understanding the horse was retired.
Moores said the horse was bored so they ran him. Horse was removed to Virginia USA.
