Punchestown 2012

35 would've been average for the per race but it was important to make a good start - 46 today is okay.

Fav points 75 (+365 required) is about par.

Wonder what they'll do with Sizing next season

"It's very hard to win these races and fair play to Finian's Rainbow – he's won since at Aintree to frank the form (from Cheltenham).

"Our fellow is getting that bit older now and I wouldn't be opposed to trying him over three miles again next season."

Won't stay 3m any better than he did this season; just won't be as quick over 2.
His best chances seem to be pot-hunting the 2 milers where the ground slows the others down, imo.

I have spent 15 minutes studying the 2m4 chase, and I think I have a bet. Cases to be made for the lot of them, with the possible exception of Westmeath.

If you had shown me the three JP runners, and guessed the first choice, Osana would have been my last guess. In fact, I think that Carrigmartin is the one. He will go on the ground and was punted heavily in this race last year only to be well beaten. I think he was 6/1 in the morning and started at 5/2. This looks to be the plan again, and 13/2 is a lot nicer a price for a horse with form on soft ground.

Any other thoughts on this race in particular and the card in general?

Obviously Clonbannon Lad sluices up in the bumper. I took 8/1 last night and expect him to start at half that price as there's been more money for him this morning.

He's going to love jumping in this ground but the trip is a worry. I think he is a decent back to lay proposition. It's not hard to imagine QE not getting round and CC jumping like a pillock again. In that scenario Rubi could be very short IR as they enter the straight.

from today's RP.
Carrigmartin

Eddie Harty, trainer: “He’s in good form and this is a race we’ve had in mind for him for a while. Unfortunately, the rain has come and that won’t suit.”

i take this as a positive ;)

Imo, Rubi Light's only problem is he may be held up to get the trip.
He's head and shoulders above these, and given free rein with his exuberant jumping he should have this done and dusted a long way out.
Sous Les Cieux (4.55) is also a stand-out on form, imo, and if the blinkers aid him to get interested early, should positively improve for the step up in trip.

Goes ahead, but no chases today. The Gold Cup is to be rescheduled.

Oh, and the first race is not off until 4.55

How can you have a jumps card with no chases? That's like going to a flat meeting and them not running anything beyond 6f.

Would be well gutted to pay for 3 hurdle races , 2 bumpers, one of which is an egg and spoon

I'd be demanding my money back if I had a ticket. I thought it was just the UK that was anally health and safety obsessed.

I think they have closed the corporate area (high winds) so the comparison with Cheltenham is fair enough.

They would be better canning it and running on Sunday, although they may have that in mind for tomorrows card which must be very very doubtful!!

Hit the crossbar with Benash yesterday. Not backing anything today which hasn't won in heavy.

A horse to take out of yesterday - stick it in the notebook - Art of Logistics. Fancied by connections and they think a lot of him. Ran into fourth and an eyecatcher.
