Road To The Champion Hurdle

Binocular will go fav - KK disappointed and he's still not faced Hurricane Fly, Menorah or Peddler's Cross and judged on today he's running when the Henderson horses are flying.

I'd imagine Overturn will run even if it's only to ensure a proper 2m pace for Peddler's.

If you're of a mind to take 3s about the CH now it would be based on his obvious well being and his win last year rather than what we've just seen as I would expect Menorah and Hurricane Fly to beat Overturn like that also.

Indeed Euro - I just didn't see anything there that he didn't do at Cheltenham in March 2010, he's certainly improved from his debut (we knew he would) and he's won this year rather than finishing runner-up. Worthy favourite but I see no reason to take the price now as short of an injury to one of the other contenders it's unlikely to contract much.

Pretty sure that McCain is on record as saying Overturn wouldn't get near Peddlers at home.

Said this on another thread but my initial reaction was I wasn't overly impressed thought he would do it easier than that especially with the Henderson horses in form I guess though the big day for them is March. I think all in all now I'm in the Fly camp and I'm going to do a little on Dunguib as well.

7/2 now Binocular withj Hills and Coral. A fair price but the 5/2 with most frims look a complete over reaction.

I think Binocular is a deserved favourite for the champion hurdle, but for value I think Peddlers cross must be the bet at 6/1. Another point is McCain is a trainer going the right way.

Much as I don't like to say this, Henderson is getting fairly close to hitting a little bit of a purple patch himself!

HF gets his chance to post a response in the Irish champion

When are we likely to see peddlers and Menorah in action next?

Dunguib due out next weekend too I believe

Dunguib. Mille Chef and Oscar Whisky add a great dimension to what is going to be the race of Cheltenham 2011 by miles. I'd love to see Dunguib put in a slick round of jumping at Leopardstown. It could have a real shake up on the market.

It was run like a Champion Hurdle. Interesting to see how far Starluck was beaten.

Like I said on today's fancy thread, I would love to know what McCain thinks of Peddlers v Overturn. I think today's form is very good indeed.

What McCain said about these two in a stable tour:

OVERTURN
6yo bay gelding; Barathea — Kristal Bridge
“Won the Northumberland Plate but he’s not a bad hurdler having won five times and is now rated 159 after winning at Galway. The only disappointment was when he was second in the Swinton Hurdle and probably should have won. He’s done really well but I can’t have it that he’s 8lb better than Peddlers Cross — which is what the handicapper thinks. It would seem that better ground suits his style of racing but he has won on slightly softer. He’s had a very good break, is still away and wouldn’t be running till possibly the New Year.”

PEDDLERS CROSS
5yo bay gelding; Oscar — Patscilla
“He’s scarily good and has a different gear to anything we’ve dealt with. Although he’s won his two best novices over two and a half miles, on what he does at home I can’t get my head around him wanting three miles. We still believe that he’d have won the two mile supreme novices at Cheltenham if he’d gone for that instead. Before Cheltenham we sent him with three fairly useful horses to work on the Flat at Bangor. It was only really to get him settled but they were going a fair old rattle in the gallop and Jason was quite a way back. But he quickened so well that it reminded me of one of the gallops I used to see at Newmarket when I was with Luca Cumani. That’s how good he is. He’ll go to Newcastle for the Fighting Fifth and that will give us some idea what we’re going to do. It might be an issue settling him over three miles because he is a bigger, stronger horse this season.”

6/1 with Ladbrokes-3 places makes Dunguib the ew opportunity of the year in my opinion.

Surely the same issues that people were concerned about before the Festival last year will be exposed again i.e. jumping on better ground, speed for 2m, jockey etc etc. He needs to have improved 20lbs on last years form and I'd be much more interested in Peddlers Cross as a novice to win it rather than Dunguib.
