Road to the Epsom Derby 2011

Now that dreams of World Domination have evaporated… GET FRANKEL back in the Derby!!! (for some real domination).

Quite good, didn't look like stopping.

What would the dosage say about him, Steve, given the conflicting messages on the topside and bottom of his page?

Edit: just checked.

CARLTON HOUSE (USA) b. C, 2008 DP = 6-2-8-6-2 (24) DI = 1.00 CD = 0.17

That looks like he would be okay at 12f.

Like I said earlier definitely 10 furlongs and more. I'd say he's good to go at 12 furlongs, although if Seville had enough speed to trade punches with him here, just as good (Seville actually wants 12 furlongs).

Very poor from World Domination, surely won't lineup in the Derby now.

The winner impressive and most likely winner now but no juice in the price at 2s. Think Native Khan is the only remaining value angle at 16s.

Time of the race was dire despite the slow pace.

The time suggests to me that it may be unwise to go overboard about the form. Given that they looked to go pretty steadily in the Middleton, a time 3.45 seconds slower than the Middleton (which is what Racing UK reported) would suggest they have gone very steadily.

Might it have been that Carlton House was better suited by the test of speed than his two main rivals?

Just a thought.

edit: crossed posting there, Gamla. I didn't think they went that slow in the early stages (always difficult to tell with the camera angle at York), but the time would seem to suggest that they went little more than a crawl?

I admire how steadfast you are in your beliefs Steve!!!! I hope they have a change of heart as well although it seems unlikely.....

I don't think it's going to happen, Steve.

Connections have just stated, again, "no" in no uncertain terms.

A huge change of mind and a certain loss of face if he takes his place.

Carlton House will stay for sure, names in the pedigree like Bustino, Mill Reef or Troy and the style of the horse augurs well for his stamina, he posted a 116P for me today and no touch of the whip, being trained by Stoute and first time out in the season makes me think he can run next in the mid 120s and in this edition this will be enough.

I know guys... I know... but we managed to will New Approach into the race at the last minute. A bit of concentrated nagging of Henry and Prince Khalid, will make them wonder if they've ever been responsible for a classic winner!

As does the whip not being used, as does him pulling for quite a while, as does him not getting a clear run. He looks bombproof and all class. Hats off for the Queen!

She's passing your old haunt the Capitol cinema next week - I'll pass on your keenest regards!!!:D:D

Seville will have been suited less by the slow pace and the sprint finish. He will be better suited by a good pace and the extra 2 furlongs. He ran green in the last furlong, and wandered around under pressure. He was coming back at the winner when he wandered sideways into him, at which point the jockey eased up completely. O'Brien will have left plenty to work on, so I think there is a reasonable chance he could turn the form around. But I think Recital is the Ballydoyle number one, if they can get him to run straight and true at Epsom.

The one in Cork? Do you know they tore it down? A real, real shame. Almost as bad as getting rid of the Gingerbread House!

"Almost as bad as getting rid of the Gingerbread House! "

Loved that place - haunt of my youth - but the queues!

Here are a few colts for comparative purposes. This will give you an idea of stamina aptitude (most stamina aptitude top, least bottom). Those from Carlton House up look best placed for 12 furlongs. The top two could also be Leger types

Totally. The difference in prices between the two now is ridiculous.

If Seville is running green (and not sure it was that "green' really) now then hes not a Derby bet at this point in time

I liked the winner today. Looked the part

I respect Stoute but there must be a doubt about the horse handling the occasion.
