Royal Ascot

As for tomorrow. Liked Elite Gardens on debut. Interesting to see how she gets on in the Albany.

Not sure I would want to be against Adelaide. Step up in trip and better ground could see any amount of improvement.

Think Tapestry deserves another chance in the Coronation.

Final race. Has top weight but think Fort Knox could still run a big race.

Ryan Moore is off my Christmas card list I backed Barley Mow ew . As I also backed Windshear and Estimate but to win - a day to forget .

Gold Cup was a great race but I do dislike horses winning through getting a serious beating against the rules .

It is a great shame the Goodwood Cup was reduced to 2 miles there is something still really thrilling about the old Cup distances when good horses run over them .

Great Ascot Gold Cup performance... woeful England World Cup performance. Who remembers when we could actually play football?:(

they not doing the business at all..but you just never know with him..i'd say the pace didn't help Great war too much..burned out..i hope leading light wins for you

Cheers EC1. I'm a relieved man. Treve and The Great War have let me down for 2 big pots, but in hindsight I probably needed my head examined including either of them in bets.

An average week that should have been hugely profitable. Very little insight into todays races, so it will just be a fun accum with doubles and trebles;

3.05 Bold Sniper
3.45 Bunker
4.25 My Titania (Rizeena originally but MT drifting to a backable price)
5.00 Century (reluctant to touch another AOB one, but sure tis just for fun today)

Anything you have a line into or major opinion on today EC1?

There's been a bundle of money for John Oxx's My Tatania but whether it's justified or not remains to be seen. The form of her last outing barely justifies her running in this let alone winning it. She could do more than win and she did have Tarfasha behind that day but that was over 7 furlong which is miles too short for Dermott Weld's filly.

Her winning run prior to that when she beat Afternoon Sunlight and Lahinch Classics who ran Volume to a head reads well but the only worry is the good one's she beat all did better when stepped up in trip.

She showed a lot of speed over 7 furlongs and her half sister is a confirmed sprinter so there's no guarantee she'll get a mile.

She's also had her problems and while John Oxx is a marvelous trainer and she could easily win this there's too many if's and buts about her for me to be backing her at 7/2-3/1.

The 1000 Guineas from took a bit of a knock when Marvelous kicked Light of Thunder into touch and the lack of confidence in the latter will have the Irish punters looking elsewhere and My Tatania sticks out like a sore thumb on that score.

The best form in the race may well be that of Lesstalk in Paris who has done very little wrong but seems to have been completely overlooked.

She was a hot fav for the French 1000 guineas and thought to be superior to her stable companion and winner of the race Avenir Certain who since then has gone on to win the French Oaks

It turned out Lesstalk in Paris was in season which explains her poor performance and if she truly is a better filly than Avenir Certain or even if only her equal 14/1 is an absolutely crazy price.

Lesstalk in Paris ew 14/1 looks a great bet to me.

Tiggy Wiggy provided a well timed boost to Patience Alexander who now looks a bit obvious for the Albany and looks sure to go off favourite.

Yet another Starspangledbanner pops her head up.. this time in the shape of Effusive. She was ridden with alot of confidence by De Sousa at Carlisle and while she looked a little bit unsure of herself when starting her run once she got the hang of it she went past the fav Free Entry the two finishing miles ahead of the rest.

She's certainly not as good as her relations the Wow Signal or a A. Alexander but she doesn't have to be to go well in this.

Her win came at Glorious Carlisle over 5 furlong so six round poxy old Ascot :) over 6 furlong will suit her to a "T"

Effusive 20/1 ew and Patience Alexander against the field for me

King Edward VII Stakes

Interesting race with more than a few having a good chance of winning.

Sir Michael Stoute runs Snow Sky having opted to send Cannock Chase for the Hampton yesterday.

He must be pretty confident in Snow Sky to have done that as he loves to win this race having won it 6 times already.

I reckon the hint should be taken.

Snow Sky currently 7 on the machine

G/l all

Was " It Ain't What You Do It's The Way That You It" on the Singing Detective sound track ?
You are most welcome Mr Detective.
Difficult to keep stayers going over extreme distances as opposed to shorter races.
That the horses keep responding and have no weals or cuts should be taken into account.
I expect the first three to bounce out that race and show no ill effects.

Bold Snip price not great but should win.

Lesstalkinparis the most interesting one in a weak edition, not a bad price, possible bet.

In the last race, Blessington should be a very short price favorite and is still 11/1, must bet.

Hartnell the most likely in the queens vase.

Not in my book, he hit the horse eleven times and misses the Coral Eclipse as a consequence.

Hello Singing Detective. What was good about Joseph’s ride was putting the colt where he needed to be and then being determined that nothing would get past him. It was good to see that level of commitment that has not always been apparent from him in the past. Rulebook, schmalbook, over the permitted limit perhaps but the horse is fine and it’s an arbitrary rule anyway, if your allowed to hit a horse at all what’s the point of doing it fewer times than necessary to win. No one wants to see a horse being flogged to death, but that is not what is being done.

I remember writing up the 1998 Juddmonte International as a great renewal and one of the most thrilling of any race. Yet Eddery was handed an eight-day ban, Dettori a four-day ban and Fallon a three-day ban with nothing between the trio. These penalties apparently reflected the relative success in the race rather than the amount of times each jockey hit their mounts (they were all judged guilty of hitting their mounts over the permitted level). This was pure arbitrary nonsense and while the Rule has been ‘adjusted’ since then is still inadequate for the reality of race riding. We should be billing such races as an advertisement for the sport, rather than expressing all of this false and shambolic guilt about it. The Thoroughbred racehorse was bred to race, the breed would not exist without racing.

...well said.

Tough card today but think the tide will turn against the favourites today.

Edu Querido could be interesting at a price in the second, ran some nice races on quick ground in Dubai and back to handicap company coupled with facing quick ground again could see him outrunning his price at 66/1. Fav has to be taken on at the price. Communicator and Hall of Mirrors be my other picks.

I'm also in the Lesstalk In Paris club, she was in season last time out and 14 more than fair. Guineas also rans J Wonder and Euro Charline (latter still not exposed for me) also probably bets at double figures.

There's a danger Bunker is a not trained on yak but the Dante was a good race and fast ground looks more his bag, I was surprised to see 12/1 about, he's a bet too IMO.

If Sunset Glow wins the first I will desist from slagging off Rishi until next week at the earliest.

I have a free bet following on from Elite Army and was undecided what to put it on but his assessment of the American filly's condition has prompted me to put it on her.

His description reminded me of Pharaoah's Delight (I think was the name), a filly who won the 2yo race by 5L the day Nashwan won the King George. I don't know anything about conformation but even I could see that day that I was looking at a different specimen.

Rishi.

I'm not sure the jockey did too much wrong. he was one of the last to come off the bridle and held off PA well enough.

Watching the replay side on from the inside prompted me to back the winner ante-post for the Guineas. I know it's early but she quickened there to get to the leader and then quickened away. The mile will be no problem.

he beat PA off because he was too close to the pace...its ok going that speed on a flat track but jockeys get caught out with the finish here..they went too hard imo..always going to get caught by a closer

I'm not sure they went too fast. How was the time? It looked to me like SG started fast but Espinosa slackened it off a touch for a couple of furlongs mid race. You could see them start to pack at that stage but one by one they started coming off the bit and SG was last to do so. It may be that she doesn't quite stay. PA also raced prominently and kept on for second. I reckon if they'd gone over-fast both leaders would have stopped more abruptly.

I look forward to seeing the sections.

Whether he wins or loses, Adelaide must be the worst priced horse of Royal Ascot at 2.26...
