The 2015 2-y-o thread.

Serious performance and serious punt on it, opened 5s with the first to price it last night, went off sub 6/4 i think. Never in any doubt, won easily without being asked too much.

I'm being more selective about the races I mention.

Yesterday

Newmarket 2.40

A nice win for Shalaa, quite a bit of scope but still green, at the generous odds of 14/1. The least said about the ride Spencer gave the joint favourite Areen the better it would be good to know what riding instructions he was given.

Doncaster 2.50

Nice debut by second-placed Ribchester, every chance inside the final furlong but carried left by the favourite, Melabi, and beaten 3/4 length.

Newmarket 4.20

A comfortable winning debut for Salvo despite veering left inside the final furlong. Winter Rose, another debutante, showed plenty of promise in third.

Newmarket 4.55

A performance by the newcomer Lumiere that has our resident clock-watcher salivating somewhat. She certainly looks the part of a useful filly and put in a very professional performance. A long way behind the placed horses showed some promise, the fourth Rio's Cliffs is a daughter of FSS Canford Cliffs.

Leopardstown 5.50

Port Douglas turned out to be no match at all for the impressive winner Sanus Per Aquam, whose stablemate Gleine (Rory Cleary) did a fine job of pacemaking. The winner is sure to play a part in all the decent 2-y-o races he runs in.

Newbury 7.00

In what looked like a sub-standard race for the course Patanjali, a daughter of FSS Poet's Voice, made a promising debut four lengths back in fourth.

Today

Ascot 1.55

Two FSS with runners here; Frozen Power (Madrihno, fourth to Twin Sails, in a race that EC1 likes, on debut) and Dream Ahead (Nisser third on debut to Shalaa, the winner of yesterday's July Stakes).

Newmarket 2.40

This looks a good race, Illuminate (7/4jf.) is a runner for FSS Zoffany.

Newmarket 4.20

Two FSS represented; Roderic O'Connor (Bazzat, making his debut, is a half-brother to Beyond Desire -RPR 112- winner of a Group 3 over 5f. at Longchamp) and Zoffany (Von Blucher, second in what looked a good Sandown maiden but the form isn't working out too well). Jarir who is making his debut is a half-brother to High Accolade, winner of the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge over 12f, and a full-brother to Oasis Knight, a successful staying handicapper given a RPR of 104.

Chepstow 6.30

Two FSS with runners; Dream Ahead (Adham who won well at Lingfield last time and is a half-brother to Ponty Acclaim winner of the 5f. Group 3 Cornwallis at Ascot) and Dick Turpin (Receding Waves winner of a decent-looking Redcar maiden on his latest outing).

Navan 6.35

FSS Canford Cliffs is represented by Lady Allegra, a good second on debut at Fairyhouse and a half-sister to lots of winners including two that achieved black type.

Chester 6.45

Three FSS with runners in this nursery: Canford Cliffs (Holy Grail), Poet's Voice (Bathos) and Wootton Bassett (Clive Clifton).

Jim Bolger said Sanus Per Aquam is "Teofilo " reincarnated by his looks, his walk, his behaviour.
Dewhurst bound according to the man whose pioneer pin tells that he is talking through the end of an empty pint glass.

Gawd, I love these quiet Saturdays!!!!

Yesterday

Ascot 1.55

A winner for first season sire Frozen Power with Madrinho causing abit of a surprise by holding on close home at 12/1.

York 2.20

Amazing performance by Lydia's Place and her rider Rob Hornby, the saddle slipped forward about a furlong into the race having little control horse and jockey got over to the stands rail and stayed together to win by a head.

Newmarket 2.40

FSS Zoffany represented by the filly Illuminate who won by just holding on in a three-way photo. Easton Angel had no luck in running.

Chepstow 6.30

This went to receding Waves a son of FSS Dick Turpin who just got up to beat Adham who is by FSS Dream Ahead.

Navan 6.35

Lady Allegra the winner for FSS Canford Cliffs.

Today

Chester 1.50

Cool Silk Boy has been very disappointing in his two runs but he remains a half-brother to the very smart filly Tiggy Wiggy. Prince Jai, a Showcasing colt making his debut, is a half-brother to the useful Priere -RPR 107- who ran second in a fillies Listed event at Chantilly.

Tipperary 2.05

There first season sires with runners; Paddy O'prado (From Eden who is not without ability having twice finished fourth in good maidens), Canford Cliffs (Whiskey Zulu making his debut) and Zoffany (Camellia Japonica making her debut).

Newmarket 2.35

Two FSS with runners; Elusive Pimpernel (They Seek Him Here a surprise (16/1) winner at Kempton on debut and taking a big step up here) and Frozen Power (War Department who was just about pulled up after being hampered and stumbling at half-way, impressive winner on debut in a Leicester maiden).

Ascot 3.20

A veritable host of FSS runners: Zoffany (Any Guest - making his debut is a half-brother to Imperial Guest -RPR 109), Lilbourne Lad (Bernie's Boy - third on debut at Salisbury), Atlantic Sport (Breslin - making debut) Poet's Voice (Express Metro - debut), Canford Cliffs (Rockley Point third of four to Buratino in a Novices' Stakes at Newmarket on debut) and Paddy O'prado (Walsingham Grange - making his debut is a half-brother to an Italian Group 3 winner Malossol).

Tipperary 3.50

Independence Day the easy winner of a maiden at Down Royal (the 5l. second won a hot-looking Naas maiden this week) is a half-brother to Requinto the winner of the 2011 running of Group 2 Flying Childers over five furlongs. Shrill the comfortable winner of a Cork maiden last months a half-sister to, Silkwood, the winner of the Group 2 Ribblesdale over 12f. at Royal Ascot.

Newmarket 4.20

Two FSS runners; Dream Ahead (Haley Bop, a running on third at Haydock on debut) and Canford Cliffs (Justice Lass, a promising fifth on debut at Windsor and a half-sister to Dibayani winner of a Listed race at Leopardstown before going to be trained in Hong Kong. City Chic is a half-sister to Bandini -RPR 121- winner of a Grade 1 at Keeneland and a full-sister to Discourse who won the Group 3 Sweet Solera at Newmarket in 2011.

Newmarket 4.55

FSS Zoffany is represented by Spongy in this nursery, he won his maiden when running on under pressure to get the better of Welford inside the final furlong.

York 5.10

FSS Zoffany has Bint Aldar running in this nursery, she made all and hung on well on her last run at Hamilton.

Salisbury 6.00

FSS Frozen Power is represented by No Pleasing You who showed nothing on debut at Beverley. Alakazam, beautifully bred being by Archipenko and a half-brother to 2006 Derby second (beaten a short-head), showed absolutely bugger-all on debut at Wolverhampton, who knows???? Brave Archibald, who is making his debut, is by Arch and is a half-brother to Bauble Queen the winner of a Grade 2 at Santa Anita on turf.

4.00 YORK..got a large figure for gutafain at salisbury..won again last night..Husbandry ran a 102 figure in that race..enough to take most maiden races comfy....this york race is bound to have some decent ones in it..but will have to be good to beat Husbandry FTO

I own a share in Papa Luigi, so I was hoping you had it wrong! :ninja: Winner did it well!

Nurseries have been the plan for a little while, and I was happy enough with todays effort

Yesterday was a terrible day if you were a follower of first season sire runners with not a winner in sight on the other hand if you follow EC1's advices you would have done very nicely thank you. Birchwood @ 7/1 particularly pleasing in the Superlative 2.35 Newmarket!

Today there are no 2-y-o races.

cheers Col

some decent maiden races popping up now..and once a few of these decent placers start meeting each other its pretty hard to separarate them.

Ibn Malik's maiden is one of the best i've seen..113 for winner which is only 1lb behind Birchwood's figure yesterday. That race is worth watching..but obviously they will probably run in very good maidens..not always the case though.

Yesterday Ballydoyle put up a very decent effort..107..the two behind are worth watching if they don't run in super dooper maidens...
Nemoralia 98...Haggle...91. Haggle particularly as was FTO

From Ibn Malik's maiden...Comicas 113...John Splendid [who had run well in another very gooed maiden previously]...109...Under Attack..101...mazarzain..96...el toi..96...snan...88...albe back..87

Some of these may meet each other in maidens over the coming weeks in which case i favour the Ibn Malik race over Ballydoyles..but i am sure one or two of these will run in weaker events and represent solid wagers.

As there were no races for 2-y-os yesterday it's straight on to today.

Ayr 2.00

First season sire Dick Turpin has The Knave running for him in this, the colt is making his debut.

Wetherby 2.15

Four FSS represented; Dick Turpin (Lagenda who is having his third outing was a rather distant, 8 lengths, third at Wolverhampton last time), Frozen Power (Lord McGuffy - making his debut), Zoffany (Mister Zoff - showed very little on debut in decent York maiden) and Wootton Bassett (Teba Mateba, a half-brother to Greyfriarschorista who ran third in the 2010 Britannia 3-y-o handicap at Royal Ascot). Favourite for this at 11/10 is Tawakkol, rather exposed but a half-brother to three black-type animals.

Killarney 5.50

FSS Zoffany is represented by Zig Zag who showed some promise on his debut in a hot-looking Curragh maiden.

Wolverhampton 6.10

FSS Lilbourne Lad has two in this; Jewellery Quarter who was always in rear when 11th. of 12 on debut at Windsor and Lily Ash making her debut. Pouliche, unlucky when hampered on debut at Newbury is a half-sister to Enforcer who ran 4th.of 6 (beaten 3 lengths) in Hurricane Run's 2006 King George.

Windsor 7.00

FSS Canford Cliffs has Canford Star in this, she has shown little in two runs but didn't have the best of runs on her second effort, at Salisbury. This Is For You, who is making his debut is a half-brother to a couple of black-type sprinters.

Windsor 7.30

Two FSS represented; Zoffany (Essenaitch had a quiet 'educational' on debut over this course and distance. Great interest in Inland Sea as he is a full-brother to No Nay Never the rather impressive winner of of the 2013 Group 2 Norfolk at Ascot for American trainer Wesley Ward.

Apologies for no word on Ray's the Bar. I was away, but to be honest could not have fancied him from the gallops. He actually looked very good first time he was shown on the site, but his subsequent gallops were far from convincing. Well named colt, by the way, by Exceed and Excel and owned by the Rays. In Ray's the Bar's last previewed gallop he looked behind, though near, an animal called Taurean Star (of whom I know nothing).

winner is very smart Qzy..and i'll wager the second is too...you will have no prob winning a race with Papa

Interesting you say that EC1 as the comments on Husbandry elsewhere have been very guarded. One commentator didn't like his action. He's a Paco Boy so may improve with racing. He's also a first foal of a useful mare who won a few times and is out of a Lupe Stakes 2nd. The mare, Humdrum, has a yearling colt by Exceed and Excel called Elementary, she is by the way half-sister to Ring of Truth.

In his stable tour Balding said he was a likeable type and likely to be early. He now says he'll look for a race at Goodwood for him.

Thanks for that input, ED.

Yesterday

Wetherby 2.15

Lagenda a shock 33/1 winner for first season sire Dick Turpin.

Killarney 5.50

A comfortable debut win for Foxtrot Charlie.

Windsor 7.00

Alizoom justified favouritism by making all and pulling clear for a comfortable win.

Windsor 7.30

Essenaitch an 11/1 winner for FSS Zoffany. The well-bred and well-backed Inland Sea didn't have the clearest of passages in the final furlong and will undoubtedly improve for the run.

Today

Bath 2.00

Two FSS with runners; Canford Cliffs (Thee And Me - well-exposed and giving away lots of weight) and Frozen Power (Powerful Dream - has shown moderate form in her three runs.

Beverley 2.15

Three FSS represented; Canford Cliffs (Garden World - making her debut), Lilbourne Lad (Nouvelli Dancer - also making her debut)and Elusive Pimpernel (Anagallis - showed ability when a promising second on debut in a moderate Nottingham maiden).

Lingfield 5.50

Two FSS with debutant(e)s, Pour Moi (Silas R) and Dream Ahead (Duljanah). Celebration Day , already gelded for his debut, is a half-brother to, Parasol -RPR 119- winner of the Listed Magnolia Stakes at Kempton, and Mot Juste -second in a Group 1 at Longchamp. Swift Response, another debutant, is a half-brother to Fantastic View - second in the 2003 Group 1 Racing Post Trophy.

Lingfield 6.20

FSS Dick Turpin is represented by Lady Katherine well beaten in three runs in maidens.

A bit off-topic, perhaps someone knows though.

Was following Dougal, one of the Zebedee 2-y-o's from last year a bit, decent 2-y-o with 2 wins and 2 seconds in 7 starts. Found group races too hot but managed a nice 5th place in one of the rich 2-y-o races in October 4 lengths behind the winner. No starts this year and the Hannon homepage does no longer show him as one of his horses in training.

Guess it must have been some kind of injury - does someone know about him and whether he's no longer active for good?

Thx in advance!

Yesterday

Bath 2.00

First season sire Frozen Power had a 12/1 winner with Powerful Dream in what looked a poor nursery.

Beverley 2.15

The well-backed Zebedee filly, Sandra's Secret put in a very professional performance to win this comfortably.

Lingfield 5.50

This looked a decent event and the 11/10 fav. Hawkbill held off Lazzam inside the final furlong.

Today

Lingfield 1.40

FSS Roderic O'Connor has a runner with Arctic Flower who hasn't shown a lot in three races but some signs of ability at Epsom last time. Charlie Appleby's Sacred Harp is having her second run, didn't figure on debut at Doncaster but will undoubtedly improve upon that.

Catterick 2.00

FSS Canford Cliffs is represented by Lady Clair who is making her debut.

Lingfield 2.10

Successful FSS Zoffany has a runner here with Cara's Muse who has shown some ability in her two runs and is a half-sister to a couple of black-type animals. Ediye, green and a touch unlucky on her debut in an ordinary Newcastle maiden, is a half-sister to Havana Beat -RPR 114- who finished third in this year's Group 2 Yorkshire Cup. Novantae, having her second run for C.Appleby, was green when sixth on debut in an above average Doncaster maiden.

Sandown 7.10

Two FSS represented; Frozen Power (Efron - last of 10 on debut at Haydock but showed signs of ability) and Elusive Pimpernel ( Premier Currency - prominent until halfway when a distant fifth to stablemate, and favourite, Racquet at Salisbury latest outing). Mr. Marbin, who showed zilch on debut at Chepstow, is a half-brother to two black-type horses. (Calling Eleanora Duse, what's the word on The Major, please?)

The Major seems to make up the numbers in a whole lot of gallops. He's never sparkled on the gallops which at least Ray's the Bar did. Is behind Machine Learner and Show Legend and others so although a weak event he'll have to improve in my eyes to win this. I'd go for Doyle's mount I think.

I still have Academy House top of Bell's 2yos, so today's foray will be a good sighter for me and presumably Bell. He has pace, which he's shown on the gallops and can make up ground quickly. In his last race he appeared to show he was not a shirker. Not a cert, but a sporting bet I'd say today.

Very difficult following these gallops as you have to judge how near a trial it is. Sometimes they are taking it easy, sometimes tanking along. I will redo the list I promise. (still some horses to appear).

Yesterday

Lingfield 1.40

The race went to joint-favourite Rebel Surge but the eye-catcher was Prying Pandora - slowly away and still at the back of the field entering the final furlong she ran on strongly to claim third place on the line.

Catterick 2.00

Lady Clair a nice winner on debut for first season sire Canford Cliffs.

Lingfield 2.10

Still a touch green, Ediye was always prominent and won comfortably.

Sandown 7.10

Zodiakos, backed into 2/1 fav. on debut, overcame greenness to win comfortably.

Today

Hamilton 2.10

FSS Frozen Power has two runners; Freeze A Crowd who on his last run at Carlisle showed plenty of speed but weakened a furlong out and Madame Barker who hasn't shown a lot in her two runs. Forever A Lady is of some interest, she is by Dark Angel and is a half-sister to smart 7f. handicapper Smarty Socks.

Leicester 2.20

FSS Dream Ahead is represented by Hillside Dream who disappointed on his last run when slowly away and never getting involved.

Chepstow 2.30

FSS Roderic O'Connor represented by Becca Campbell who showed some promise last time at Lingfield when a running on fourth beaten four lengths.

Leopardstown 5.50

Planchart is a runner for FSS Gio Ponti she made a promising debut when second to Shrill at Cork and then asked too big a question next time in a Group 3 at the Curragh. Jim Bolger's Acclamation colt Al Mohalhal is a half-brother to a number of useful horses.

Doncaster 6.35

FSS Lilbourne Lad has Mecca's Missus running in this, she was a good winner last time and looks to be improving.

Doncaster 7.05

Two FSS with runners; Canford Cliffs (Canny Style who was a touch disappointing last time at Chester after a promising debut when an unlucky third to Raaqy at Doncaster) and Poet's Voice (Princesses Voice who showed some promise when sixth at Newbury on debut). Must give a mention to Honorina this daughter of Sea The Stars is a half-sister to Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach.

Epsom 7.15

FSS Canford Cliffs is represented by Jassur, green and slowly away when tenth of twelve on debut at Newmarket he is a half-brother to to Juniper Pass a winner of Grade races in the US of A.

The Major didn't win (Doyle's mount did), Academy House didn't run and Show Legend, who looks fairly near the top of Bell's lot, should go near in the first at Nottingham.
