The 2015 2-y-o thread.

The Major didn't win (Doyle's mount did), Academy House didn't run and Show Legend, who looks fairly near the top of Bell's lot, should go near in the first at Nottingham.
Meant to thank you for that, I backed Doyle's horse at 4s :)

Yesterday

Doncaster 7.05

Not a spectacular debut by the well-bred Honorina but showed enough to suggest that she will be winning races.

Today

Nottingham 1.50

First season sire Poet's Voice has a runner with Nietzsche who made an OK debut at Haydock but disappointed at Leicester on his second run when last of six.

Newbury 2.00

FSS Elusive Pimpernel represented by debutant In The Red. Galvanize is a half-brother to smart handicapper Ea - RPR 115. Wannabe Friends is a full-brother to Wannabe Yours who won a Group 3 at Goodwood.

Nottingham 2.20

Two FSS with runners; Poet's Voice (Whitman narrow winner of an ordinary Newbury maiden last time) and Dick Turpin (Highway Dream - last of nine at Haydock on latest outing).

Newbury 2.30

Three FSS represented here; Lilbourne Lad (Hepworth Marble, on debut), Dream Ahead (Madhatten who is also making his debut, is a half-brother to Roscoff second in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud) and Canford Cliffs (Rio's Cliffs a well-beaten fourth of eight on debut in a smart-looking Newmarket maiden).

Haydock 2.40

Two FSS with runners; Dream Ahead (Edification who ran well second time up when second to Elronaq at Newmarket, didn't progress next time only managing 8th. place when 2/1 fav. at Windsor) and Poet's Voice (Queensbury Odyssey who's shown little in two runs).

Newbury 3.40

Madrinho represents FSS Frozen Power, he caused a bit of a surprise last time at Ascot, when Hannon's neglected, by winning narrowly at 12/1. Plagiarism, who ran on strongly to win at Newcastle on debut, is a half-sister to a number of useful performers including La Presse who was fourth in the Cheveley Park before being sold to the Godolphin consortium.

Newmarket 6.15

FSS Poet's Voice is represented by Princesses Voice who showed some promise when sixth at Newbury on debut. Matidia, a filly by Manduro, is a half-sister to Coriolanus , a smart handicapper who achieved a RPR of 114.

Pontefract 6.30

FSS Frozen Power is represented by Emerald Asset who has shown little in two starts but on both occasions he was unlucky, being hampered at Beverley and his saddle slipping at Thirsk.

Hamilton 6.40

FSS Dick Turpin has Black Hambleton making his debut in this.

Yesterday

Nottingham 1.50

The Showcasing colt Danecase put in a much improved performance to take this comfortably.

Newbury 2.00

The well-supported newcomer Recorder put in a very promising run in third place, short of room on a couple of occasions he would have gone close to winning with a clear run.

Nottingham 2.20

Whitman was a winner for first season sire Poet's Voice, he appears to be improving with racing.

Newbury 3.40

Tasleet found a surprising burst of speed to put this to bed in the final furlong.

Newmarket 6.15

Bint Al Reem justified favouritism, running on well at the finish. Promise shown by two newcomers, Notary was third beaten just over a length and Beautiful Morning ran on well to finish fifth.

Today

Ripon 2.10

First season sire Dick Turpin has Turpintina running in this seller, she was green and slowly away on her debut at Redcar.

Ripon 2.45

Ornate who showed promise when fourth on debut at Windsor is a half-brother to Saayerr winner of the 2013 running of the 2-y-o Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Goodwood.

Newmarket 2.50

Two FSS with runners; Poet's Voice (Ae Fananah - a touch green on debut, finishing a distant fifth on Lingfield's Polytrack) and Roderic O'Connor (Sharaakah, green at Lingfield on debut and beaten 18 lengths into fourth place).

Chester 3.35

FSS Zoffany has Spongy in this, he was unlucky on his last run, at Newmarket, where he was bumped at the start then had to squeeze between horses to get a run late on, he went down by a short-head to First Selection.

Newbury 3.45

One of those valuable 'Sales' races and there are three FSS with runners; Roderic O'Connor (Great Page who has been a little inconsistent with her form but she did win a Listed event at Naas on her penultimate start), Dick Turpin (Receding Waves - has won his last two starts albeit in moderate events but could well be improving) and Poet's Voice (Midnight Malibu - the winner of an ordinary Nottingham maiden last time).

Curragh 3.05

FSS Zoffany represented by, already gelded, debutant Mixed Views. A number of interestingly bred youngsters here and top of the list must be Clear Skies - a filly by Sea The Stars who is a half-sister to the Derby winner of 2005 Motivator, a negative here is that Clear Skies full-brother Gashaam finished last of nine in a Longchamp maiden last month.. Another worthy of mention is Shogun, a full-brother to Qualify, winner of this years Oaks at Epsom; Shogun disappointed on debut here last month, sent off the 5/4 fav. he never got into, or was never put into, the race finishing 7th. of 11, the blinkers are on today.

Curragh 4.45

A Group 3 and FSS Dream Ahead has Final Frontier running for him, he was impressive when winning by 4.5 lengths on his debut over course and distance, the form is yet to be franked. Two that catch the eye on breeding are; Antelope Canyon (a surprise winner at Roscommon last time is a half-brother to two Group 3 winners, one of them, Gloomy Sunday, won over two miles) and Miss Katie Mae (fifth behind Most Beautiful in a Group last time, she is a half-sister to Eastern Impact a good third in last week's July Cup).

Lingfield 6.10

I've mentioned Alakazam on here before and he is yet to show any ability. It looks as if his Derby entry was rather optimistic......we shall see!?!?Nucky Thompson is a half-brother to American Grade 2 winner Slim Shady and a full-brother to Groovejet, second in last year's Park Hill Stakes, Nucky showed little on debut at Newmarket. Rockley, making his debut for C.Appleby, is a full-brother to Calypso Beat second in a Group 3 for 2-y-os at Deauville last summer.

Lingfield 6.40

FSS Canford Cliffs is represented by Canford Kilbey, she was fourth of six behind Smart Mover in a seller at Musselburgh last time.

Haydock 7.25

Two FSS with runners; Canford Cliffs (Canford Crossing - making his debut) and Frozen Power (Siberian Power - shown very little in his two runs). Both Sides is interesting, fifth on debut in a 7f. maiden at Sandown he is a half-brother to Sparkling Beam a Group 3 winner in France and Rainbow Springs third in a Group 1 for 2-y-os at Longchamp.

Yesterday

Ripon 2.45

Very impressive win for Ornate.

Newmarket 2.50

Sharaakah a winner for first season sire Roderic O'Connor.

Curragh 3.05

A pleasing debut for the Sea The Stars filly Clear Skies, running on well for fourth place.

Curragh 4.45

A Group 3 win for FSS Dream Ahead with Final Frontier narrowly holding off the tenacious filly Miss Katie Mae.

Today

Redcar 2.00

Three FSS with runners; Wootton Bassett (Bassett Bleu - showed nothing on debut), Lilbourne Lad (Onefourseven - last of 11 beaten 30 lengths on his debut) and Zoffany (Saxon Gold - shown very little in her two runs).

Curragh 2.05

Three runners for FSS; Zoffany has two, Camellia Japonica - making her debut, and Gilded Reflection also making her debut is a half-sister to Lesson In Humility winner of the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown. Roderic O'Connor has the debutant Cassis Sunset running.

Musselburgh 2.45

Poplar Close represents FSS Canford Cliffs, made 5/6 fav. last time at Beverley but she could only manage second place.

Poplar Close - sent off 2/1 2nd fav - won by the narrowest of margins to beat the 7/4 favourite Livella Fella by a short head.

Together with Justice Lass' win yesterday this gives Canford Cliffs two successive days with a winner. And for the first time for quite a while he is sitting directly at Zoffany's tail, Zoffany still holding a narrow lead at 13-12 with Lilbourne Lad next best on 7 wins.

Yesterday

Musselburgh 2.45

Poplar Close held on well close home to provide another winner for first season sire Canford Cliffs.

Sandown 7.10

Four FSS represented; Dream Ahead (Blackout - making debut), Dick Turpin (Daring Knight - debut), Pour Moi (Et Toi - showed some ability on debut in a decent Newmarket maiden) and Frozen Power (Powered - missed break and never showed on debut at Brighton).

Market just taken off again whilst odds were unchanged to the above post! I hope it's because some out there followed my advise.

May be though the RaceBetties are reading in here - well, if so, are you man or mouse :D

Yesterday the RaceBets mice decided they want to be men and re-opened the FSS market :D

Zoffany 1/2 (from 8/11) - 8 wins, 36 runs
Canford Cliffs 13/8 - 4 wins, 32 runs
Lilbourne Lad 3/1 - 4 wins, 45 runs
Roderic O'Connor 10/1 - 2 wins, 16 runs
Dream Ahead 12/1 (from 10/1) - 2 win, 15 runs
Frozen Power 12/1 (from 11/1) - 2 wins, 24 runs
Poet's Voice 16/1 (from 12/1) - 2 wins, 21 runs
Pour Moi 33/1 (from 22/1) - no win, 2 runs
Dick Turpin 100/1 - no win, 11 runs

See market and stats above as per middle of June and find below latest odds and stats as per today:

Zoffany evs (from 1/2) - 13 wins from 67 runs, strikerate 19.40 %
Canford Cliffs 5/4 (from 13/8) - 12 wins from 69 runs, strikerate 17.39 %
Lilbourne Lad 5/1 (from 3/1) - 7 wins from 70 runs, strikerate 10.00 %
Dream Ahead 6/1 (from 12/1) - 6 wins from 33 runs, strikerate 18.18 %
Poet's Voice 16/1 (unchanged) - 6 wins from 48 runs, strikerate 12.50 %
Roderic O'Connor 33/1 (from 10/1) - 4 wins from 31 runs, strikerate 12.90 %
Frozen Power 33/1 (from 12/1) - 4 wins from 48 runs, strikerate 8.33 %
Pour moi 66/1 (from 33/1) - no win from 7 runs, strikerate 0.00 %
Dick Turpin 100/1 (unchanged) - 3 wins from 26 runs, strikerate 11.54 %

Analysis:
Lilbourne Lad a bit disappointing lately - 3 wins from 25 runs in the last 5 weeks, with a gap of 6 resp. 5 behind the two leaders he'll find it difficult to join the top 2 fighting out the championship. Odds are a bit on the short side anyway and in reality he should rather be 8/1 - 10/1 but obviously RaceBets are having a 'book' to follow.
Dream Ahead is a different story to LL as he's firmed his position behind the leaders with 4 wins from 18 runs in the last 5 weeks. His firepower is far to low though having less than half the number of runs of the top2. So his odds are not tasty either, I'd rather see him at 8/1 - 10/1 just like my view for LL.
Poet's Voice is a bit similar to Dream Ahead with his 4 wins from 27 runs in the last 5 weeks. His bigger number of runs would make him a bit overpriced in my eyes, nevertheless with nearly half the season over his chances are tiny.
All other are at least 9 behind the leader Zoffany and as all bar Frozen Power have less than half the number of runs none of these would really need to be mentioned for the championship. The joke in the current odds are Pour moi with no win from 7 runs on 66/1 and Dick Turpin with 3 wins from 26 runs on 100/1 - if anything the odds of those two would need to be the other way round, none of them hold a chance though.

Conlusion:
Zoffany and Canford Cliff should battle it out to the line now. With half the season gone they are on very similar number of wins, runs and strikerate so I'd be surprised if either of the two would build a significant gap of more than 5 wins by November 7th when the champion is crowned. Zoffany had 5 wins from 31 runs in the last 5 weeks whilst CC had 8 wins from 37 runs - so CC holds the momentum, but both have their say. It would be good if other markets would be on offer besides RaceBets - a bit disappointing that my market leaders PP have elected not to pursue it any further as this would have given the chance for some cherry picking for odds on Zoffany and CC. With RaceBets offering evs and 5/4 it'd be a bit of a lottery which one to bank upon.

However, the 5/4 may be interesting for BennyB though who took the 7/4 on Zffany and could hedge his chances with the 5/4 for CC.

Third successive day with a winner for Canford Cliffs levelling up with Zoffany at 13 wins - CC turned odds-on with RaceBets.

Some good stuff at Leopardstown tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing Alice Springs again especially.

Yesterday

Lingfield 2.20

Impressive win for Sakada on his second run, he looked a level or two above this standard.

Bath 3.40

Adham a narrow winner for first season sire Dream Ahead.

Naas 5.55

FSS Zoffany's Dolce Strega (50/1) ran on strongly for third.

Sandown 7.10

Eyecatching performance by debutant Massaat, slowly away and at rear until a storming late run just failed, finished a head second.

Today

Wolverhampton 2.00

First season sire Lilbourne Lad represented by Lilvanita - a decent second on this course last time.

Sandown 2.20

FSS Canford Cliffs has two in this; Canford Belle - showed speed before weakening on her last run, and Katie Canford - moderate form in four attempts. Tawwaaq, good second at doncaster last time, is a half-sister to the smart sprinter Steps.

Sandown 3.30

FSS Canford Cliffs represented by Aneesah, a narrow winner at Chester last time.

Leopardstown 5.50

Yet another runner for Canford Cliffs with Whiskey Zulu a nine lengths fourth in a Tipperary maiden on debut. General McArthur, a colt by War Front is half-brother to a number of good-uns; Horatio Nelson - Group 1 winner RPR 120, Red Rock Canyon - third in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes RPR 118, Viscount Nelson RPR 117 and Kitty Matcham winner of a Group 2 and a RPR of 105. Unicorn is by galileo and is a full-brother to Bondi Beach winner of a Group 3 at the Curragh last month.

Newbury 6.00

Two FSS with runners; Dick Turpin (Jack Nevison, any relation to Dave, making his debut) and Lilbourne Lad (Lilbourne Prince, also on debut). Manson having his first run, is a half-brother to Jack Hobbs who has turned into a half-decent 3-y-o with a RPR of 124 and Niceofyoutotellme, a close third in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown in May.

Doncaster 6.15

Gameplay, making his debut, is a half-brother to two smart Group performers..

Newbury 6.30

FSS Wootton Bassett represented by Clive Clifton who was a distant third to 7 length winner Racquet in a moderate Salisbury maiden on his penultimate start.

Leopardstown 6.50

Planchart is a runner for FSS Gio Ponti - not a bad run when second at this course last week but she doesn't look good enough here. Alice Springs, a comfortable Curragh winner on debut, is a full-sister to two black-type performers in Criteria and Kingston Jamaica. Way To My Heart, having her first run, is a full-sister to Kingfisher- second in this year's Ascot Gold Cup.

Leopardstown 7.25

FSS Lilbourne Lad represented by Spinamiss a narrow winner from Zeb's Fantasy at Limerick on her last outing. Deauville, a winner on debut at Listowel, is a full-brother to The Corsican -RPR 118- winner of a Listed race at Goodwood in may and an unlucky in-running fourth in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes last time.

Not that surprised either. Deauville looked useful on debut I thought. He stuck his head down there aswell.

The Weld filly done it well too. Other days for Alice.

Well done, Luke.

Yesterday

Sandown 2.20

Good debut by Southern Belle, slowly away and outpaced early......strong late run failed by half-a-length, finished second.

Leopardstown 5.50

Disappointing debut by the well bred General MacArthur.

Newbury 6.00

Nice debuts by, the well-related Manson (second) and first season sire Dick Turpin's son Jack Nevison (third).

Leopardstown 6.50

Tanaza won well from the well-supported Alice Springs.

Leopardstown 7.25

First defeat for, the 1/3 shot, Sanus Per Aquam, the well-bred Seauville just prevailing inside the final furlong.

Today

Ascot 1.50

Two first season sires with runners; Poet's Voice (Calliope - making her debut) and Zoffany (Light Up Our World who is having her first run and is a half-sister to Light Up My Life who was second in a Listed race at Sandown.

Ascot 2.20 ( confined to un-raced colts and geldings)

Two FSS represented; Lilbourne Lad (Somers Lad) and Canford Cliffs (Wall Of Fire). Spanish City is a half-brother to Charming Thought - the winner of last year's Middle Park Stakes.

Thirsk 2.30

Men United, un-raced, is a half-brother to Talwar - winner of the 2011 Group 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown.

Thirsk 3.40

Spennithorne is having her second run for C.Appleby, she made a decent enough debut at Newbury when third to the runaway winner La Rioja.

Chepstow 5.50

Three FSS with runners; Pour Moi (Gaelic Angel -making her debut), Lilbourne Lad (Jewellery Quarter who has shown little in her two runs) and Poet's Voice (Rose Zafonic - showed some speed before weakening to finish last of 11 on debut at Kempton).

Newmarket 6.10

FSS Lilbourne Lad has the debutant Celestial Lad running in this.

Down Royal 6.15

Two FSS represented; Roderic O'Connor (Dodgybingo - unlucky in running when fourth on his last run at Roscommon) and Zoffany ( Prairie Wind - making her debut). Ms Brinkleys, on debut, is a half-sister to Graphic who achieved a RPR of 116 on Wolverhampton's Tapeta surface back in February.

Newmarket 6.40

Hillside Dream represents FSS Dream Ahead in this, she was a good second in a Leicester nursery last time, she's off the same mark today.

York 7.00

Highland Heather running for FSS Lilbourne Lad, she followed up a decent second at Ripon on debut with a rather disappointing sixth in a Haydock maiden.

Yesterday no winner for CC after 3 successive days. Today he's back in the winning groove and took over from Zoffany to lead the field 14-13, next best on 7 wins.

RaceBets have now installed CC their 4/6 favourite with Zoffany at 6/4.

Yesterday 1.50

Marenko made a big step up from his debut effort, when he was last of nine at Newmarket, here he made all and won comfortably.

Ascot 2.20

A winning debut for first season sire Canford Cliffs colt Wall Of Fire.

Thirsk 3.40

A winning debut for stoutly bred Mark Johnston filly Gold Merlion. Has a pedigree that suggests further wouldn't be a problem.

Newmarket 6.10

Bing Bang Bong seemed well suited by the soft ground, going clear and winning easily.

Today

Ascot 1.30

First season sire Zoffany represented by Essenaitch who improved from his debut to win a moderate Windsor maiden last time.

Newmarket 1.55

FSS Zoffany has Ventura Storm making his debut in this. Recorder was an eye-catcher on his debut at Newbury, slowly away and denied a clear run he ran on for third, the form of the race is yet to be franked.

Ascot 2.05

A Group 3and FSS Roderic O'Connor is represented by Great Page who ran well enough to finish seventh in that Sales race last week but doesn't appear to be the stable's first choice today.

Newcastle 2.10

Two FSS with runners; Frozen Power (Lord McGuffy - only beat one home on his debut at Wetherby) and Lilbourne Lad (Onefourseven - SPs of 80/1 and 100/1 on his two starts in which he has managed to finish in front of one horse). I have to mention Street Duel - he could only manage second place (at odds of 1/4) on his last run at Brighton but had shown plenty when fourth to Hornsby in a Newmarket maiden that has worked out well, he is nicely bred being by Street Cry and a half-brother to 2010 St. Leger winner Arctic Cosmos.

York 4.05

Two runners for FSS Frozen Power, Athollblairboy who dwelt at the start when 12th. of 13 on debut here earlier this month, and Rupert Boy who has shown little in his two outings.

Newmarket 4.15

Raucous is a runner for FSS Dream Ahead - he was the easy winner of a two-runner race at Sandown?

York 5.10

FSS Zoffany represented by Bint Aldar, he broke his maiden at the second attempt when making all at Hamilton, followed that up with a good fourth in a nursery here earlier this month. Has been dropped three pounds for this.

Lingfield 5.30

FSS Lilbourne Lad represented by Hepworth Marble who showed some ability on debut at Newbury, drops back a furlong today.

Salisbury 6.45

Four runners for FSS; Canford Cliffs (Dream Of Summer - making debut), Lilbourne Lad (Nutbourne Lad - unruly and tailed of last of 13 on his Windsor debut) and two for Poet's Voice; Poet's Beauty who has shown little in his two runs and Vibrant Chords who, already gelded, is making his debut.
