The 2015 2-y-o thread.

I had Blue Moon Rising at the bottom of my original list from Bell. She has improved but I find it highly unlikely she'll go in today. Having said that now she'll probably win by a distance.

Have you any idea what happened to the British 2yo Racing man? His website seems to be getting more and more behind. Hope there is nothing amiss.

He's catching up again, ED, but not a lot in the way of summaries.

I think he is probably busy with other things, which can happen.

I am hoping that things will get back to normal soon......I miss his scathing comments about various aspects of the game.

There were no winners by FSS yesterday.

Today's top five FSS runners:

Ripon 2.00
CANFORD CLIFFS - Cuppatee

Epsom 2.30
LILBOURNE LAD - Lembit And Butler
ZOFFANY - Von Blucher
ZOFFANY - Lily Bonbon

Ripon 3.45
POET's VOICE - Whitman
CANFORD CLIFFS - Holy Grail

Dream Ahead is doing jolly well with limited runners. At 11,000gns he now appears a steal. Nice to see another sire line (Man O'War) having some success rather than just Northern Dancer and Mr Prospector. He's only got two ND lines (4X5), one being Sadler's Wells and the other unsurprisingly Danzig, but he'll be almost an outcross sire for many ND bred mares as well as one to look out for with Mr Prospector mares (one cross of Raise a Native in the 5th generation).
I'll have to look up how many mares he's covered recently.

Edit: He covered about 100 in his 2nd season and the same number in his 3rd: similar to Canford Cliffs in that respect. Zoffany has a lift in his 3rd season and he also seems to have a higher quality of mare. None of these sires gets particularly high fertility scores, all under 70%. Frankel was 90+% in his first season, and Dubawi and Sharmadal are up there as well.

RaceBets has not re-established a market for the 2015 champ FSS - however they published a new market for Champion sire in Europe by total prizemoney at Dec 31st.

On this slightly off-topic a question to the experts: I'm surprised about the odds of 2/7 Dubawi and 5/2 Galileo.

According to my understanding the current figures are 3.432.275 for Galileo and 3.279.613 for Dubawi. Looking at their top progeny and their prospects for some of the remaining big races in Europe I'm surprised that Dubawi is favorite let alone at 2/7. I know there is uncertainty about further racing in 2015 by Gleneagles - and Telescope has retired -, but there are plenty other candidates for good Galileo prize money besides Gleneagles (Fields Of Athenry, Order Of St.George, Found, Bondi Beach) to add on the existing lead of just under 153.000. Dubawi has some good prospects (New Bay, Postponed, Arabian Queen) whilst he has retirements too (Al Kazeem, Night of Thunder). Besides this I'm pessimistic on their big-money chances in races like the Arc.

Does this entitle Dubawi to be favorite and make up the current deficite and this at odds of 2/7 - what's your view on this slightly off-topic?

Such a nice battle going on - frustrating that the rabbits have not got the guts to re-open the FSS market.

Col,
one additional comment. I think you were dead-right to concentrate on the top 5 FSS's this time of the season and at this standing in the table.

Without this your daily posts would feel a bit like a watered-dish with too many side effects of runners and results by horses without a chance for win let alone the FSS championship.

The only thing I miss a bit are some of your quality comments on other good 2-y-o's and their sires.

But it's your call obviously - who pays for the music can select the song :)

I not sure that my comments deserve the adjective "quality" but thanks anyway.

I'll try to pick up on the more interesting ones and put something up in separate postings. I stopped doing it because the interest didn't seem worth the time involved.

I fully understand - it takes an awful lot of time day in day out. And it feels frustrating when you spend so much time without many responses nor a lively discussion - totally understand.

But then again it's not everybody's interest to post regularly and some even hardly do it ever. However, this particular thread is high-up on the agenda for many readers so this may make you feel rewarded, too.

Hope you keep going anyway and yes - with your comments on starters, their previous exploits and their breeding - your comments fully deserve the quallity tag.

I'm absolutely positive others feel the very same way!

VELVET REVOLUTION is by Pivotal and is half-brother to Gitano Hernando, winner of the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji in 2011.

Haydock 3.00

TAUTOLOGY is a Dubawi full-brother to Hunter's Light who was fourth to Farhh in the 2013 Champion Stakes and won two Group 1's at Meydan earlier this year.

TAP THE HONEY is a Fastnet Rock half-brother to Wootton Bassett, the winner of the Group 1 Grand Criterium at Longchamp as a 2-y-o, and numerous other smart performers.

Salisbury 2.40

CARENOT is an Iffraj half-sister to Dick Whittington the winner of the 2014 running of the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.

Salisbury 3.10

DHEYAA a Dream Ahead half-sister to Burnt Sugar and Brown Sugar both successful at Group 3 level as 2-y-os.

DASHING APPROACH a New Approach half-sister to Barshiba - the winner of of the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks as a 3-y-o.

ALL THE RAGE is a Dubawi half-sister to Michaelangelo who ran third in the 2012 St. Leger.

Good ol' Col is back - that's what I meant with your quality posts on previous exploits, breeding and other interesting aspects.

Thx Col - I'm a happy chappy now, much appreciate!

I'm glad I've made someone happy.......just someone happy!

Yesterday FSS ZOFFANY had a winner with Ventura Storm at Salisbury 1.40.

Today's top five FSS runners:

Haydock 1.30

CANFORD CLIFFS - Northern Beau
LILBOURNE LAD - Turaathy

Newcastle 1.50

ZOFFANY - Picture Painter

Haydock 2.00

CANFORD CLIFFS has three: Cancan Katy, Oceanella, Shwaimsa

LILBOURNE LAD - Lilozza

Ascot 2.10

ZOFFANY has two: Any Guest, Zoffany's Way

Kempton 6.25

CANFORD CLIFFS - Canford Crossing

Kempton 6.55

LILBOURNE LAD - Nokhada
DREAM AHEAD - Silent Attack

Kempton 7.25

ZOFFANY - Al Shahaniya

Some newcomers that may be of interest:

Haydock 2.00

OCEANELLA - by FSS Canford Cliffs and a half-sister to Consort, who ran third to Gleneagles in the St. James's Palace Stakes in June.
SHAIMSA - another Canford Cliffs filly who is a half-sister to, Fractional, a winner at Group 3 level in France.

Haydock 2.30

PRICELESS, an Exceed And Excel half-sister to Helene Brilliant, who finished second in the 2006 Group 2 Mill Reef.

Kempton 6.25

LOURES - a Shamardal full-brother to Lucida, winner of the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes in 2014.

Some nice races today - difficult to see lots of success for the top5 FSS today, I'll have an eye on Zoffany's Al Shahaniya though in the 7.25 at Kempton. She had a nice debut win, not sure how much it was worth though. Today it's just 3 runners and she trades at around 5/4 at the moment with Dettori in the saddle. I disregard the FTO wide outsider of the 3 and think Al S. will go off shorter than 5/4, may even tackle the Prescott horse for going off as favorite trading round about 8/11 at the moment.

The figures you quote are UK/Ire figures. Dubawi leads European figures by almost 800K. However, even given that, I agree that it isn't cut and dried.
