The Hennessy (Newbury)

Bobsworth off 10-4 will think he is galloping loose.
He might still not be good enough but his hurdles win will sharpen him up considerably.

I confess he is the one I'm most drawn to, as an alternative to the jolly.

I've backed Coney - i expect Bobs to bounce. I love the horse and he's won me plenty in the past but i can't have him coming back to this level again. I don't think its ever been about weight for Bobs and even with 10-4 he'll still need to run like his old self to compete.

I cannot imagine Bobs being a player here

SDR could be very well in, Coneygree is also under appreciated

It's a pity that one of the proper Irish GC hopes didn't try take this in

I posted on the NH thread that if they elect to run her at Newbury then off 10-8 she'd be the potential blot.

Can't see it happening myself though as there'll surely be easier opportunities to take on the boys for the first time, albeit the attractive weight may be too tempting.

Mullins later said:- "She did it nicely and will be aimed at a mares' campaign; there's a race for her at Carlisle and there's another one for her in England in February.
"She's in the Hennessy but that's not my first line of thought and we'll go slowly with her this season

a real shitter if he misses it.....but it would markedly increase the chance of him being in the king george, which would be fantastic.

Erm I think I have some bragging rights on this happening!

Seriously...Come on bookies, you are good at putting two and two together, so you can all price the champ up for the King George now then...

Annacotty and Triolo D'Alene confirmed as taken out of Hennessy at today's stage.

I see the three day meeting is being compressed into two next year.

Having hoovered up the little available at a three-figure price on Triolo D'Alene when the weights came out, I'm disappointed but not surprised. I suspected it was probably someone close to the horse who put up the price but I was hoping against hope for a change of heart. The horse is seriously well handicapped if they get him back to the track fit and well.

From Racing UK

Connections of Coneygree say "things are looking a lot rosier" in his race against time to be fit for the Hennessy Gold Cup on Saturday week.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup winner made an emphatic return to action at Sandown earlier in the month to set him up perfectly for the prestigious Newbury handicap.
His participation was thrown into doubt when he spread a plate on Monday morning, but an improvement in his condition meant a shoe was put on the afflicted foot on Thursday in readiness for a Sunday workout.
Sara Bradstock, assistant trainer to husband Mark, said: "We've got the shoe on and things are looking a lot rosier.
"I'm not promising anything, but it (Hennessy) is now a live possibility.
"The bruise has gone, but there is still a chance some pus could come out of the foot.
"There is also a chance the bruise could come back after we gallop him.
"He'll gallop on Sunday and we'll see how he is after that.
"We're not out of the woods yet, but we've made a step in the right direction and if things keep going as they are then hopefully we'll get there."

Taken 20s about Houblon Des Obeaux. Only a pound higher than last year and I really don't see another potential Many Clouds lower than him in the weights. it's a race to get involved in with some of those in single figures (SDR and Bob's Worth) criminally short. Not really sure why his rating has come down so much.

I'd earmarked The Young Master for this race for a while but the Waley Cohens comments that he's a horse to "have some fun with" don't exactly fill me with confidence.
Valseur Lido is interesting too if running
Having said that its all academic if Coneygree turns up :)

Waley -Cohens' idea of fun is winning big races with nice horses; certainly not a liability to have Sam riding.

Not at all
He's clearly not as polished as some of the top riders but I've never had Sam down as a negative.
