The Road to the 2012 2000 Guineas

There was £17 being offered at 15.5, which I took. I've got out of the habit of using Betfair as it's a lot of faffing about for tuppence ha'penny. Then again it is 2½ points bigger (albeit for a considerably smaller amount) than the 12s I took earlier.

I'm torn in three or four directions this year. I'll be looking at the place market closely.

FF and Born To Sea chief dangers to favourite in my book.

Same here. I have the two Frenchies and will probably back Born to Sea as well if there is cut in the ground. He's a big heavy attractive thing who'll love that sort of surface.

Abtaal is my main bet. He's Sheikh Hamdan's only entry so I'm reasonably confident he'll turn up now. My only other worry is if he'll stay.

Very bullish statement Aragorn. Divided opinion on who is the better horse between him and French Fifteen.

You lot are quick. I changed my mind about posting that about ten seconds after I'd done it and you've still seen it!! I'm normally reticent about being too bullish but I do really fancy this horse and will be heavily involved come the day.

There's very little between Abtaal and FF in my opinion and I also am not confident who shades it. And yet these aren't even the only French colts to consider. I can see either or both thereabouts. I've a couple of others to muddy the waters with though.

better pedigree
better trainer
lightly raced
better price

in the trial the jockey was very easy on him.

better pedigree: wouldn't know about that not my field of knowledge

better trainer: dont think so all three know how to train a good horse. Rouget has been doing this for a long time and is considered in the same class as Fabre only based on the material he has to work with compared to the great man. Clement is no mug.

better price: Of course, has more to do with what he has achieved. Comprehensively beaten by the first two in the Djebel and they were just as easily handled in the race. They were simply better and I'm fairly confident that will prove to be the case next week.

Like to add the potential jockey bookings. If the same ones ride I'll have Peslier and Soumillon any day of the week over Lemaire. Notwithstanding Lemaire's excellent record at Newmarket he has really fallen off the map in France the last two years. Not sure if those heavy falls took something out of him but he rides "scared" to me theses days. Used to be a big fan of his.

I'd be more worried about the ex-Irish Dragon Pulse than Hermival.

Abtaal is the best looking/moving colt I've seen in this generation and he has more pace than most of the field. If he stays he will be hard to beat.

Similar here - have already backed French Fifteen and Born To Sea (on the basis that Oxx's comments about him last week count as extremely positive for him!).

Dragon Pulse sadly will almost surely not run. Sitting on a huge price for him in this.

Don’t despair just yet Delzangles trains both Dragon Pulse and Hermival and has indicated that one of them (maybe at least one) will take part. Initially it seems he was leaning toward Hermival but may now be looking at Dragon Pulse who like Camelot, Parish Hall and co should improve at distances beyond a mile, but could acquit himself well if lining up here rather than the Poule d’Essai des Poulains, especially as it may need one who gets at least a mile this year.

Dragon Pulse and Hermival should prove worth following this season.

Oxx: "We thought about running him in a trial but we were happy with him at home and we took the decision that he didn't need to have a race. The plan is for him to go straight to Newmarket now and hopefully we're doing the right thing," said Oxx.
"We've had no setbacks at all with him and everything has gone nicely.
"He's pleasing me at home, but things can change quickly, so fingers crossed."

I love seeing people being bullish on here. Is there anything specific about the horse that makes you want to steam in?
