The Road to the 2012 2000 Guineas

Sheikh, see 1000 guineas thread, this may still be a good ground guineas.

SteveM, there is over 50 available to back Parish Hall at 25/26 on BF with a solitary 13 quid to lay at 27 and that's it. Anyone backing him at 12's to win needs their head examining but you know that. I think he's more Intense Focus than New Approach/Teofilo as bolgers dew hurst winners go.

Still don't think he'll run but maybe they are thinking, keep him in cuz if it's a bog he might come into it. His 2yo form is not working out

Pretty sure Al Zarooni said he would start him off in the guineas. I don't think they expect him to win but they will want to find out where they stand for the future.

My point is that Pricewise shouldn't be put off if he fancies him, especially if he has heard he has a good chance. His prices are all over the place, so you can't really say he's drifting. People just don't know. Remember he was 20/1 when winning the Dewhurst.

It was a surprise that he was left in as the aim was to start him in the Dante with a view to running in the Derby.

The forecast going for both the 2,000 and 1,000 is currently soft. It would have to dry significantly to be truly good ground. Virtually certain to be somewhere on the soft side of good.

There is a lot of rain due for the next 24 hours in the south of England. Not sure if it will make it as far north as Newmarket, but if they get the 30mm that some parts are forecast, it'll be soft on the day given the showers forecast for the rest of the week.

Steve, read the quotes from Prosser on the 1000 guineas thread. His word not mine.

He has the best pedigree, is handled by the best trainer and from what I've see is the most attractive individual in the field. Be crazy to leave him out, at least as cover.

I don't dispute that (although I don't care about his pedigree by this stage) but does his form justify him being shorter than the French pair and Trumpet Major?

He's a woeful price on form, almost as bad as Top Offer.

I'd rather back Camelot than Top Offer or Born To Sea at the prices.

No. But with the Guineas it can't just be a question of looking for the best horse formwise. With it being in May the level of ability that each horse has is sort of hidden at this early stage. Born to Sea isn't a very good price but I see him as a more lively danger than anything else in the race to the two I have backed.

Thanks Aragorn. But "heading towards good ground by Saturday" isn't far from saying on the soft side of good and I reckon he is being a little "optimistic" so as to keep everyone happy. The forecast is for soft if it's better than that all well and good, but I wouldn't be looking for genuine good ground. I don't see how it could be that.

To get things in perspective Ascot is waterlogged. I realise Newmarket drains much better than Ascot, but even so.

Everybody was talking about a heavy/soft ground National this time in Aintree week and they were watering by Thursday. Things can change quickly.

I'd be very surprised if it was anything worse than good to soft.

...we're reckoning on good to soft.

Yes but you were saying it would be a soft ground guineas, whilst the clerk of the course is saying good, good to soft. Not sure which forecast you're using but I'm inclined to believe Prosser as its his job!! Plus Ascot is 100 miles from Newmarket so it doesn't put anything in perspective.... :ninja:

This is what I said... i.e. it is very unlikely to be genuine good ground.

Yes but you keep saying the forecast is for Soft ground!! You've said it twice on this page!!

The forecast on the Sporting Life site was for Soft when I originally posted (at about 2pm). It has changed after today to Good to Soft (which is where my money was)... still not to Good though.

I fancy Born to Sea and Trumpet Major ew . The former because Oxx simply does not tilt at windmills and because his relatives have been such good horses and I backed Sea the Stars for this and TM reminds me of Dick Turpin and I see him in the frame .
