What are you backing Today? Part 2

He wasn't wayward at Cheltenham iirc. Will have to re-watch.

Chianti Classico was also very eye-catching at Kempton. Saw a tweet suggesting Ultima? Think he'd need more experience for that race but he is interesting at a different track.

Took me a while to decide between Shallow River (10/1 at the time) and J'Ai Froid (14/1) last night and eventually let the jockey put me off the winner. Can't say I was at all happy with the ride Shallow River got. Ridden a bit cold then struggled when the pace picked up before running on late.

Glad it's only fun money today cos it isn't fun watching!

Smashing performance by Banbridge to beat a proper job horse.

They're talking about Edwardstone's keenness compromising his performance but he still looked like a non-stayer.

Banbridge is a real credit to his trainer. Never been a big fan of Edwardstone to be honest.

I took some time over the last 48 hours to try and get some kind of handle on the form with the Schweppes and Cheltenham really just around the corner now and landed on these, across which I'm spreading some jam thinly:

Edwardstone
Impose Toi, Irish Hill
Shallow River
Carbon King (as per longshot thread)
Malina Girl, Galia Des Liteaux (+ Broken Halo?)
Sam Brown, Two For Gold, Cepage
Trelawne
Roseys Hollow (Fai)

I'm not expecting to end the day in front so getting my money back or close to it will do.

Edit - just noticed Unibet are happy to go longest about Impose Toi so maybe today isn't the day after all.

Great run by Galia Des Liteaux but Sam Brown (10/1) the only winner among other near things with Roseys Hollow only a length down when falling three out. Not enough of a return to put me in profit but it fair reduces the losses!

Sam f**ing Brown I think you mean from someone who backed Aye Right.
Well picked anyway
A place with King Alexander (what was his jockey doing bouncing up and down in the saddle all the way) was my only return today

I normaly wouldn't consider backing a flat horse who was 1 from 12 but Rising Force 7/4 looks to have found a winnable race.

I may be up against it.....Dr Jon Scargill's Magnificentforce jhas been backed from 11/1 to 7/4 despite never have run a message in any of his 3 races to date.

Because he has been off since July the stewards can't say a word if he wins doing handstands.... dirty swine:lol:

Not had a bet for ages with this weather but I've a few running on Sunday.

Lingfield I backed Matata at 8s for the Lightning Novice when it was scheduled for the Friday. I think he's overpriced if he can just be ridden with a tad more restraint.

In the handicap chase I have two trackers - Saint Segal and The King of Prs. I've backed the Cromwell horse at 3s and stuck SS in a Cheltenham multi.

Appreciate It is overpriced at 8s in the Kinloch Brae. He gets a chunk of weight from Envoi Allen yet that horse is three points shorter. That is silly. Naturally Allaho may be tough to beat.

I wrote this about Smart Champion on the longshot thread 2024 the other day.

" Smart Champion has just turned nine years of age. He has ran 36 times in his career, so averaging out at about 5 runs per year, as he's been in training for about 7 years. He hasn't been overaced by any means, and is a horse who placed in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot, while also placing at Glorious Goodwood in 2020. He's scored twice on the all weather, so can handle the conditions, and now on this career low mark of 68, I hope the horse can out run odds of 25/1 or thereabouts, and Hayley Turner can come with a thundering late run to land the spoils. Maybe I aiming for the stars, so to speak, and might end up somewhere near the clouds, and if he ran well and got placed that would at least justify my belief he is well handicapped. Let's see."

14s or thereabouts for the 3.45 at Lingfield tomorrow. I have to stick with him.

HARVARD GUY 155 Navan 3/1

Entered for coral cup/m.pipe will need to win if they want to run in coral cup I think.
Progressive horse.

Couldn't help but be impressed by Oh So Grand turn of foot last time out.

Same course and distance the main danger is Jack Mitchell overdoing it and leaving it too late.

Hopefully he'll keep in touch and steer him home

Oh So Grand 2/1 Lingfield 3.10
