Could do with some help re the Newmarket stalls:-

Yesterday the stalls were against the stands side and the higher drawn horses were against the stands rail.

Today the stalls are against the far side so where will the higher drawn horses be today; against the stands or far rail ?

FWIW I'm interested in Shanghai Glory (again) and he's drawn 15/16 but would prefer him against the stands rail.

Dragon Tail's (1:50 Newmarket) second at Newmarket last season behind subsequent Meydan winner Gold Town, could easily make him a 100+ horse. He races off 89 in this handicap tomorrow, he goes well fresh, so must warrant a bet at 8/1. This is either a group or listed horse running in a handicap.

Ripon 4:35 - Daawy. Beaten at short odds a few times but dropped a few pounds and well handicapped now, (same old talk lol).

16:00 Ripon - Pennsylvania Dutch e/w

(Used to be with William Haggas. Ran OK at Southwell on first run with new trainer. Needs to prove he has fully-recovered from wind surgery. If he has, could be a decent e/w punt at the freely-available 16/1 at time of writing).

Sorry about that, Marble, but darn it, it reared-up at the start and lost all chance of a place at least, after finally finishing 8th of the 20-runners. Would not have won as far side were much better. Might give Pennsylvania Dutch another chance, although I am wary of sprinters who mess around in the stalls and don't get away smartly. But that's racing! Maybe new trainer Kevin Ryan can teach him something?
 
Not to worry man. I fancy Blue De Vega tomorrow but just enjoying the sun at the moment. I said on the other thread I've forty each way on Label Des Obeaux at 25's for Saturday and the price is a shorter now. See what goes down in the Scottish national. Looking forward to that.

Very best of luck to you, Marble! Label Des Obeaux seems like a good ante-post bet. Don't play the Scottish National too often, find it a tough one, although seem to remember backing Ryalux in 2003, a real thriller that race was. Might have a small punt on Cogry who is on a handy weight, finished second to Vicente last year I believe?

Good luck with him PB but I’ve given one more chance to Theinval today.

I'm not entirely sure Theinval is as suited to 2m4f as he is the minimum trip but he's a consistent performer who's run well in his last two outings at Aintree and Cheltenham, when arguably a shade unlucky in both and runs off the same 141 here.

He ran twice at the Ayr meeting last year; finishing 2nd to Two Taffs - who was coming here off a good 3rd in novice handicap at the festival - from a mark 7lb higher than today and then was turned out again the following day, finishing 2nd again in the future champions novice chase. He was 2L behind Cloudy Dream in receipt of 3lb that day, who’d just finished runner up in 2 grade ones at Cheltenham inc. in the Arkle behind Altior and Aintree and is now rated 157.
Back in third was Oldgrangewood, now rated 146 and a further neck away in 4th; Clan Des Obeaux (now rated 155).

Theinval is becoming frustrating, regularly looking likely to score but always seeming to find one too good but if he’s going to win a decent race then surely this is it off this mark and I'm more than happy with c. 3/1.

It's surprising to me that for one with his consistency that the handicapper has allowed him to slide half a stone down the ratings in the past 12 months after a series of solid, if not spectacular runs.
 
RDS for me too. Only 1lb above his last winning mark and ran with credit in the two big pre-Xmas handicaps at Cheltenham on unsuitable ground. A poor run at the festival on worse ground is readily forgiven
Hard to desert Theinval but he’s surely too short in the market at this trip- agree he’s not so effective as at 2m

Ayr 3.45 Value At Risk 16/1 He is exactly what his name says but looks so well h'capped on Hurdle. Watching him he isn't a bad jumper just slow and careful but he may get away with it off this mark. Small e/way for me as he is Value At Risk, the ability is there if he can attack his fences.
 
Hoping for Champagne Champ in the 4:05 at Newbury. Doesn't win too often, but is consistent and will stay the distance. Excellent young rider on board.

That's a great call Chef. SP c. 5/1 too as the money really came for him.

Another hard luck story for Theinval but doubt he'd have won anyhow and that's it for me and that horse.

I picked out early this morning as it was also in my tracker but was hoping one of the books would go 20/1 so I could stick it on the Long Shot thread - I only got 14/1 myself with sportsbook but a good old fashion gamble landed
