What are you backing Today?

This is the nearest I will ever get to knowing what it’s like to be connected to a winning horse (I only see him on the beach). He was way out the back (only heard it on the radio so had no idea what was happening). I’m SO pleased for Adam. Woohoo! I’m shaking!

I find myself laying the Hoops again this evening at Livi who could easily have taken all three points away from Celtic Park at the weekend.

There's actually value to be had somewhere in the market with, at best odds, a 98.5% book.

Celtic have their isolating players back this evening so we have a stronger team - in theory - but the Dubai debacle may have a lingering negativity.

There is clearly disharmony behind the scenes between Lennon and his paymaster and I'm not convinced there is harmony between him and the players, except maybe skipper Scott Brown and one or two others. I suspect he doesn't get on well with a lot of the foreign guys.

David Martindale, on the other hand, has clearly got his team 100% committed to his tactics and this evening they'll have the added advantage of their artificial surface. Celtic do not play well at this stadium. I'd need to check for certainty but I'm pretty sure we haven't won here since 2018.

In the big scheme of things, we are better man for man and should be a far better team but, as I keep saying, the psychology of competition interests me and Livi have bottle by the crateload these days.

I'm anticipating another very uncomfortable night for Celtic and the fans watching at home but dearly hope we can use the negative environment towards (and within) the club as motivation to deny those who love seeing us lose.

That brings its own concerns. A really good performance might see Lennon hold on to the job for longer. He should have been out long before now. I never wanted him there in the first place but for now we're stuck with him.

I'm dreading tonight but I have to watch it...

Another totally wimpy performance against a highly motivated, well organised outfit. We didn't deserve to take anything from that. Lucky to get away with 2-2.

I haven't studied any of the form for the Taunton 2.45 tomorrow but have backed Brewin'upastorm at 5/1.

I backed this in the Arkle last year when Tricky Dicky was up to his usual and have backed it since - to my cost - but I've never lost faith in its ability so I have to back it here. Its rating of 148 is still its hurdles mark of the season before last and, had it stayed over hurdles, could easily have been expected to make up into a 158 second-season hurdler (/novice chaser, which was one of the reasons I backed it in the Arkle) so it should be able to win off this mark, whether it's this race or not.

Fingers crossed...

I like the angle and Taunton looks a good weight carrying track but has he not just lost his way in general? His chase form last year reads quite well.

Bets today are If the Cap Fits at Taunton even though I missed the price initially ap, Espoir de Guye at Ascot - I expect hom to come back to form back over a more appropriate trip and Defi who is just too big in the Clarence.

Well, that’s a mighty co-incidence. I started off with fifteen horses to look at. Two non-runners and nine opposing each other in three of the races I was left with four: Brewin’ up a Storm, If the Cap Fits, Espoir de Guye (these three the co-incidence with above posts) and Tupelo Mississippi. I’ll go with those depending on market, plus a long shot small dabble on I K Brunel.

I'm backing one today that I'm definitely not recommending. Stepney Causeway seemingly might get placed in the opener at Ascot and will carry £20 ew of my money.

The horse carries the name of the street in the East End of London where the first Barnardos Childrens Home was founded in 1870. It was a dark and gloomy building made grimy by the smoke from the trains crossing the arch literally next door for nearly 100 years. I grew up living close by and would pass it several times a week going to see family or, for a short while, on a paper round. I think that most of its activities had been moved to a much more pleasant site in Essex by then but every time I passed it I thought how lucky I was to have family. So a sentimental bet.

A donation whatever but any winnings will increase it.

Domaine de L’isle won this race last year and is back on the same mark today having not stayed a couple of times over 3m and had a couple of runs over hurdles. Poor in the Paddy Power but this may have been the target. Gets a 9lb pull with Bennys King who was 2nd in last year’s race

Was a great spot, win or lose. Congrats. Good winner.

Another shocker. Won’t be wasting money on this horse again

First Flow another overlooked improving and overpriced handicapper winning in graded company. How was that a 14/1 chance?

Remember the old days when races were won 'out in the country'. Great to see jumping count for so much in a NH race. First Flow was fantastic.

Aye. He came to my attention as was looking at some collateral form the other day of a previous placed horse behind him. A bit dissapointed with myself for not backing him. Hindsight eh.

What odds First Flow for the Champion Chase now?

First Flow was impressive on the day but there's a fair chance Politologue was only 90% fit, Defi just doesn't have it (or might also have needed it) and it was probably 'way too short for Waiting Patiently.

This is still January. It's March that matters.

Cannot see how todays race was a plus for Politologue (best fresh apparently) or Defi de Seuii (won this last year and continues miserable run) for March.

Agree.

Not looked yet, but wouldn’t be suprised if Chacun has shortened in price. The only thing that can beat him is himself getting injured pre Cheltenham.
