What are you watching

its the most unpredictable series ive watched, nigh on impossible to guess whats going to happen next! i have a feeling Walt will take out Hank tho :)

An odd one this. Always liked the de Niro Scorsese combination lots. Casino being probably top of the pile for me but never seen taxi driver right through. Tried it one night but gave up after half hour. maybe wasn't in mood. Left me a bit cold and wondered if it was a touch overrated like the dismal The Departed effort

Is de Niro a great actor or a good actor appearing in great films? I think the latter myself although nothing wrong with that

It actually took me 2 or 3 goes to watch Taxi Driver right through about 10 years ago, But I could honestly say Its right up there with my favourite films ever and must have watched it a dozen times since.
You make a good point about a good actor in great films as all those memorable scenes and quotes were obviously Scorseses doing but De niro carried them off with that cooler than coolness aura he had.
Not my favourite actor though that one belongs to John Malkovich.

Not actually watching -- but looking forward to watching in an hours time:
"What Remains" on BBC 1. The second episode.
David Threlfall (last seen as Frank Gallagher in "Shameless") is to my mind quite outstanding in this new series. He makes the show.
But the series also has an excellent script/storyline and great characterisation. Very little crash-bang-wallop for a detective show, but very good nonetheless.
Anyone else see the first episode?

The Great Beauty is another fine film from a fav director

The character is superbly played and there are some quite marvellous scenes (genuinely very funny in parts too)

Sometimes a little drawn out and i could juts cope with the slightly surreal bits (reminisent of Magnolia) but a film that has you thinking about it hours later.. which is the key

Anyone watching Breaking Bad on netflix or by other means from the US.....you want to watch this weeks, the drive up to the final scene, talk about intense, then the final scene, what an episode, no idea how they will keep this standard up for another 3 episodes.
Without spoilering anything I have a new theory about how its going to pan out, but then again you never know with Breaking Bad.

Well

we know Walt doesn't die as we have seen him in the future (with hair at the boarded up house) so reckon Hank dies in this shoot out, mainly due to the phone call to Marie earlier.
Don't think Jessie will, but not sure what will happen to him, i think Walt will be forced to cook again and the scene we saw at the start will be the start of him killing them off. Walt surely must die of cancer at the end?

Drag your mouse over the above to view, put it in white so as not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen this episode.

On another note, anyone still watching burn notice? This final season has been extremely good too.

Jesse should live for now at least, shows him with open door.

Walt comes back to a holocaust house to get the Rison, Question is who must he now kill. Guessing he will take on the nazi's and a power struggle ensues.

Czechs may yet appear

hank could be a goner but the phone call to marie is the type of thing this show does to throw you off the scent. it doesn't do predictable.

i'm gonna guess todd & co end up kidnapping jesse to sort their cook out and that's why walt has the machine gun in the flash forwards. to go and rescue him.

what a tv programme

The wipers times. True story (kind of) of a platoon in ww1 who found a printing press in a building and started up a newsletter for the troops. Ian hislop and someone who's name escapes me have written the story for TV and its very good :)

Annoyed I missed The Wipers Times [I'll catch it on iplayer though]. Loved Peaky Blinders [being a Brummie] and have just discovered Count Arthur Strong which didn't catch on when it was first shown but, given that it's by the guy who did Black Books and Father Ted has to be good [albeit a bit marmite].

nice to get that one spot on.

one of the all time great tv series.

And what a marvellous choice of music for the closing scene, Baby Blue by Badfinger -- surely one of the most underrated British bands of the 70's, and with their own tragic story too.

Looking forward to season5. Not long to go--due to premiere in early January. Apparently features a new clan -- the alligator-farming Crowe family.
Should be fun. :)

Have to say, I still think Series2 was the best. The Harlan County drug-dealing Bennett family were superb, headed up by the murderous family matriarch Mags Bennett played by the excellent Margo Martindale who won the Emmy for her portrayal of the part.

ok so slight update to what I'm watching, but first, Breaking Bad was easily the best TV show I have ever watched. While other shows start well, many start to fail after 2 or 3 seasons (hello prison break, heroes as 2 examples), breaking bad just got better and better. Even the finale, as predictable as it was, was just perfect. If anyone hasn't seen it yet I would highly recommend it.

Banshee is very good, although quite graphic.
Brooklyn nine nine is a good comedy
Community so far is excellent again after Harmon came back
How I met your mother has actually had a good couple of episodes, for probably the first time in 2 years.
Persons of Interest still very good.
Almost Human is good
2 broke girls, very funny
Cougar Town is extremely funny and seems to get better every season
Continuum is good sci fi

not that i watch much telly or anything :)

and don't forget, 24 is back early May :)
